Billie had a long day with the horses of some fancy Englishman a few miles away. The prize Irish Draught stallions and pregnant mares were a handful but not the problem. It was the snobbish owner who made everything difficult. Transport of those mares to the final facility for the birthing of the foals with the owner hovering over Billie and being overly critical and objective hampered his work and made the delicate mares very anxious and uncooperative.
Now that he was back in the village, Billie set out to find the local 'watering hole' and have a couple of beers to at least attempt to relax. He hoped to dear God all English folk were not like the owner he dealt with today. If they were, he'll be thinking twice and hightailin' it back to America!
He found a tavern and was not really what he expected. It was rather different than the bars he was used to. However the place did remind him of one of Ana's favorite pub establishments outside of Chicago, the Kerry Piper. He shook his head and smiled as he strode over to a stool and sat down. "Thanks," he stated as the server placed before Billie the some form of beer he ordered. An ale he supposed as it wasn't quite as strong as stout or guinness, but he wasn't really into all those fancy variations. Perhaps the whiskey would taste better. He'll have to try that next round. As he drank little by little, missing the peanuts and pretzels that his favored 'watering hole' near North Liberty often would serve. England was definitely a different place.

//OOC: This is a continuation of what happened in "Searchin' for Answers" when Edouard and Lenoir went off to the village together.//
The Vicomte opened the door to the pub and walked in, Lenoir following. They had a sort of a truce between them. Edouard had just heard the breakup of Teressa and Lenoir, with the addition of Destler comforting Teressa. He realized that Lenoir had been leaving Emilie alone since he had met Teressa, and it would be a good thing for the Vicomte to try to encourage Lenoir to patch things up with Teressa, therefore helping him to keep away from Emilie. He had invited the Phantom for a drink in the village. Erik, who had looked rather depressed, had agreed to come.
Coming inside the pub, the Vicomte looked around. He didn't see anyone he knew right at the moment. They could be coming in later. He glanced at Lenoir who was looking at a man sitting at a table alone. The fellow seemed as if he were quite tall, even though he was sitting. He had a shock of white hair and a drooping moustache. He wasn't looking their way, but Edouard glanced at Lenoir. "Do you know him?" he asked. The Phantom nodded. Edouard didn't see any emnity in his eyes, so he led the way over to the table.
"May we have a seat with you, Monsieur? I believe you know my...friend... Erik Lenoir and I am Edouard de Chagny." Edouard wasn't sure if friend was quite the correct word, but it would do for the moment.

Billie was seated facing away from the entrance rather engulfed in his own drink and the TV, or at least that's what it seemed to appear. Oblivious to the newcomers until a voice diverted his attention and he turned to look at the two men. One he did not know but the other was quite familiar. Nodding to the man with a half mask as an acknowledgement of recognition. Motioning with his hand slightly, "Go ahead," Billie replied in his deep, smooth voice.
Watching the two men as they joined him, Billie looked from Lenoir to Edouard then back to Lenoir and kept his gaze upon the strangely looking gentleman. He could tell something was up by the look upon the visible side of Lenoir's face. "Something tells me you're not here to relive glory days," as he picked up his drink then took a fair gulp of it. Keeping his eyes upon Lenoir the whole time.

Erik smiled. He knew he must get hold of himself. If Billie, whom he barely knew, could tell something was amiss, he must be showing it in his face. There were times when he wished he was wearing a full face mask. This was one of the times. "I just came here to get away from the manor for a bit, with my ...friend...eh...de Chagny." Erik stumbled over the word friend too, not sure if it was the appropriate word. "Pleased to see you again, Monsieur Cristoferson."
Erik sat down at the table with the Vicomte and Billie and felt rather ill at ease. There was a large flat rectangular box mounted on the wall, flashing pictures and very annoying music and speaking. At least it wasn't too loud, but it joggled Lenoir's sensibilities. It was quite annoying. He moved his chair just a bit to the side so he didn't have to look at the annoying picture box. Must be another invention of the future. A truly irritating one.
A waitress came up to the three men and asked if Billie wanted anything more. Then she smiled at Edouard and asked him what he wanted. He ordered brandy. Then she shifted her glance and looked at Lenoir. She seemed not to quite be able to figure him out. Erik sighed. Always the mask. But she didn't say anything, just looked at him strangely as she asked what he wanted. "Nothing really...well, just tea will be fine..." But he was interrupted by Edouard who whispered in his ear that he had to have something alcoholic because that's why they were here...to relax. Erik was about to object, but he took a deep breath and nodded. "Yes, bring me something, anything...I don't care." Edouard nodded and told the waitress to bring him some Irish whiskey. Erik frowned. "Isn't that a bit strong?" Edouard smiled and said something about how much it would help Erik relax. The Phantom nodded in resignation.

Edouard decided on the spur of the moment to have a bit of fun with Lenoir, who said he normally didn't drink. So, with a bit of encouragement, perhaps he could get the Phantom to be a bit more forthcoming about his secrets. The waitress brought a tray with glasses and two bottles. The brandy she put in front of Edouard and she poured a glass for him. She poured a glass of whiskey for Lenoir and also left the bottle. Edouard took a sip of his brandy and watched Lenoir who seemed cautions. But he took a couple sips of the glass and nodded that it was good.
"So, Monsieur Cristoferson, how do you know my friend? We actually knew each other from the manor, and before that, from Paris." He slapped Lenoir on the back in a friendly manner, but got only a black look in return from Lenoir. Lenoir took another sip from his glass.
"No, Monsieur Lenoir, you have to drink it a little faster in order to relax your tenseness. Like this," and Edouard demonstrated by draining his glass of brandy. He poured another one. "Now you do it." Erik glanced at the two men, then did as the Vicomte suggested. "Now pour yourself another drink, Monsieur."
Edouard glanced over at Billie, grinning. He didn't think it would be this easy. He thought of some of the answers he would see if he could pull out of Lenoir. This would be interesting indeed.

Billie watched Lenoir to gauge the situation. It was obvious that Lenoir was not telling the whole reason they were there. Anyone knows that a visit to a bar or tavern or any establishment of this sort usually means that a man is in need of something or escaping from something. Usually the later. "Likewise," replied Billie as the masked man said it was good to see him again.
Billie became amused with each passing minute between the two men. Especially Lenoir who seemed quite uncomfortable and was so intent upon tea. Well, only tea this place might serve would be Long Island Iced Tea. Smirking slightly as he watched the other man convince Lenoir to enjoy something a little harder to drink. Ordering another tall pint of Guinness and a couple shots of tequila. "If yer gonna have something good... ya better make it strong and smooth." With that Billie picked up his drink and downed the last of the first pint before setting it down. "Can't go wrong with whiskey."
When the server put the drinks on the table, Billie set a shot glass of tequila in front of Lenoir. "A little something to help the whiskey go down better." Billie took his little shot glass of tequila and then tossed it back quickly letting it shoot straight down his throat, setting the tiny glass down, his face pinched as he hissed from the sensation down his throat then looked over at Lenoir and waited for the man to do the same.
"I'd say from the look on yer face when you came in that somethin's not quite goin' well." Picks up his pint of Guinness and takes a drink waiting for Lenoir to at least attempt to mention something, glancing over at Edouard before looking back at Lenoir.

Erik drank down his Irish whiskey rather fast then, when encouraged by Edouard. He poured a second one and did the same. The whiskey was smooth and very strong. Then Billie shoved a shot of tequilla in front of Erik, telliing him it would make the whiskey go down better. Erik shrugged and drank it quickly, as he had seen Billie drink his. He was beginning to feel good and more relaxed. The problem with Teressa didn't seem quite as bad. Perhaps manageable.
"Thank you, Monsieur," said Erik after he had drunk the tequilla. "Interesting taste." In actuality, the taste was unlike anything he had tasted before. He too felt a strange sensation as it went down his throat. He picked up the whiskey again and sipped some more. Edouard made a signal for him to "drink up" and Erik did so again and refilled the glass.
Erik glanced over at Billie and blinked his eyes. He was starting to feel flushed in the face and was having a hard time focusing his eyes. But he felt like talking. "It's my girl. She's angry at me. All because of a little kiss on the cheek. A kiss I gave to the wrong woman. It was a mistake. " Erik pulled out his handkerchief and wiped his left face. He was starting to perspire. Tout cela à cause d'un petit baiser ...just a little kiss......she wouldn't listen...she thinks I am seeing someone else behind her back! How could she think that? And now I have forced her into the arms of a madman, just because of my tiny indescretion. It was only a joke!" Erik rubbed his left temple and closed his eyes. Suddenly he wasn't so relaxed any more. Talking about Teressa made him feel worse.
"I must forget her," he mumbled. He was starting to slur his words. He saw Edouard smile and shove a drink in front of him. "What's this?"

Edouard smiled and shoved a glass of his brandy in front of Lenoir, taking a cue from Billie, who had given Lenoir a glass of tequilla. If they could keep him drinking tonight, not only would he tell them everything, and he was starting to do so, but he would have the world's worst headache in the morning. Edouard smiled again. The bastard deserved it for going near his Emilie.
"It's brandy," said Edouard. "The best money can buy. Try it." He noticed Lenoir was becoming flushed and perspiring. He obviously wasn't used to drinking. But he drank the brandy quite willingly. "So tell us, Erik, who is this lovely woman you are courting. A kiss you say, you kissed another woman? Tell us about that. We're here to listen, you know." Edouard how the Phantom would like being called Erik. "You can call me Edouard, if you wish, Erik." He picked up the bottle of whiskey and poured another glass for Lenoir. "Come now, drink some more. It will help you feel much better. We can see that you are feeling badly about what you did. Of course you didn't mean to do it, did you?"
Edouard had worked himself up a bit. He got closer to Lenoir and said in a quietly dangerous voice, "Must have been like when you kissed my wife, Christine Emilie. I imagine that was a mistake too, wasn't it?"

Nodding having watched Lenoir down the tequila then took a drink of the pint of guinness again. Smirking as he noticed that the masked man was a little flushed. It was obvious he was no drinker. No doubt getting him drunk was going to be highly entertaining!
Billie seemed to slightly shake his head then barely a nod as he took a drink and listened to Lenoir explain the apparent situation. Women. They always seemed to be the root of any man's misery. "Can't live with 'em. Can't live without 'em." Billie said barely audible, practically a mumble. Shifting in his seat, Billie set back the pint but kept it within reach next to his hand as he looked at Lenoir. "Women are sensitive. Not much you can do, my friend," Billie was no good at reassuring an comforting but he has had experiences with women, especially his ex-Wife. "Hard to forget them, too."
Looking over at Edouard as the other man continued to fill the poor depressed masked man with alcohol to numb the heartache. Picking up the pint to take another drink and noticed Edouard whispered something to Lenoir. Billie raised his brows as he drank the guinness. This was going to be an interesting evening.

Who is this lovely woman you are courting? Erik heard the question and it took him a moment to think what the answer was. "T'ressa Lalavais," said Erik, his tongue having a hard time with the name and getting the pronunciation a bit wrong. "She's th' mos' beautiful girl ever born...elle est très belle.... and now...elle me déteste..oh...she hates me..." There was pain in his voice. He picked up the bottle of whiskey that was nearly empty and swished it about in the bottom of the bottle, then drank the rest of it right out of the bottle. "Do they have any more?" he asked.
Then Edouard whispered his angry little epithet about Emilie to Erik and he looked at the other man, opening his eyes wide. It was almost slow motion as anyone watching could see the emotions rising to the surface ...first shock that Edouard would say such a thing, then anger. "She was mine first!" Erik felt like punching Edouard in the face and he struggled to his feet, but his balance was very much off and he just sank down in his chair again. He shook his fist at Edouard. "I'l save this for later, de Chagny, " he stopped and blinked his eyes a bit. "When I r'member why I wanna hit you..." He looked confused, then started to laugh. "You're jus' jokin' aren't you? It's just a joke like it was when I kissed that woman Ana...her with th' very long last name..."
Erik then looked at Billie and Edouard. "That woman...she's a strange one...I have no idea what she's talkin' about mos' of the time..."
Erik looked again at the empty bottle and banged it a bit on the table. "Where's my whiskey?" He glanced at Edouard and laughed. "You know your drinks, don't you, my good frien' Edouard...Edouard de Chagny, Vicomte ...famous Vicomte...and I'm jus' Erik, genius musician who lives in a cave...that doesn't seem right, does it?" Erik's mood had changed again and he was laughing drunkenly and having a hard time stopping the laughter.

Edouard was having the time of his life. And amazingly it was with his arch-enemy, the Phantom. But Erik was so drunk it was hilarious. In Edouard's just slightly inebriated state, everything seemed funnier. And Edouard was getting a bit of revenge too. The bastard had gone after Emilie ten years ago in the Paris Opera House and then he had the gall to say that he had her first? Really! Edouard had known Emilie when they were both children. Lenoir was just a weird recluse who thought himself a genius, but had no right to kidnap any woman he fancied. The man was clearly somewhat demented.
When Lenoir got to the end of his bottle of whiskey, Edouard called over the waitress and asked for another. She looked dubious, for Lenoir was obviously very drunk already. "Just bring it," said Edouard. Drunken Frenchmen...murmurmed a woman to the man she was with, as they passed by. Edouard laughed.
Then he turned again to Erik. "So exactly what happened to make you kiss this other woman, my dear friend Erik?" The waitress brought the second bottle of Irish whiskey for Lenoir and Edouard generously poured him a glass and offered it to him.

Taking a drink from his pint of guinness again as he listened to Lenoir ring his praises about some gal named 'T'ressa'. Or perhaps it was Teressa or Tiressa or Taressa. Who knew really since it was obvious that the Phantom was becoming ... drunk! Amused with each word spoken from the awkward lips of the impared man. Even more amusing when he demanded more whiskey and the other gentleman was all too willing to oblige!
Not sure what to say or do but just watch them both. It was clear they had a history and there was no doubt in Billie's mind that he definitely will learn of it before the evening is through. Yup. He was right. From one gal to another, the explanations were plain as day. Then Billie froze a moment after he took a drink from his pint and stared at Lenoir rather stunned. Not a look of anger as if he were going to lay into the man but now it started to make a little sense. Sort of. No doubt there was more to this and he'll learn of it somehow, sometime. Maybe tonight if he's lucky. After a moment, setting the pint down and shook his head, "You got yourself into a heck of mess there, Mister Lenoir," as he began to rub his forehead with his thumb and fingers of one hand. "Ana?!?" Then glanced over at Lenoir. "ooh, God." Now he'll never hear the end of it. An accidental kiss that most likely will make her rather uneasy and difficult to deal with. "What on earth possessed you to kiss her?" Gazing over at Lenoir. "No woman sees a kiss as a joke, my friend." The look upon Billie's face was serious then he shook his head. "You make a hell of a big mistake." And took another drink of his guinness. A couple of lengthy drinks then ordered another pint, altered that- "Make that two bottles of whiskey."
Pouring a couple shots of whiskey for himself and downing them before he looked back over at Lenoir with a curiously stern gaze. He really was wanting to know why in the hell Lenoir kissed Ana. She was a bit rocky in the first place having had horrible relationships in the past, a lot of horrible ones, and now this masked man kissed Ana? Billie then poured himself a third shot of whiskey. Really, he was curious to know what possessed Lenoir to even think of kissing Ana.

When Billie showed a bit of shock at the fact that it had been Ana with whom Erik had shared the "accidental kiss," Lenoir felt he had to explain. He didn't like Ana very much and he didn't want anyone to think he fancied her at all. That's why it was amazing that Teressa took any of that seriously.
"Lemme explain, M'sieur Crifosserfon..." Erik frowned. He knew he had the name all backward, but he couldn't for the life of him think how to say it. But he went on anyway. "Ana, she works f' you? Well, she's a rare one, she is. She got herself all hot an' bothered about me 'cause she thought I was fictional. Yea, she did. I show'd her where I live an' still she thought I was a flamin' liar! Anyway, her horse, the big one, I went to the stable wi' her...an' the damn horse knocked us down in the hay an' we kissed because it was funny. Yea, tha's it, it was funny. But no one else thought so..." He took the drink offered by Edouard. He turned to the Vicomte and smiled. "This drink really does make ev'rything seem damn fine..."
Then Erik moved a bit closer to Billie to try to speak to him confidentially. "P'rsonally, I think Ana is a bi' daft in the head... bloody hell, she's a crazy one!"
Then Erik became contemplative and quiet. He looked into his glass and swished the liquid about. "She's not afraid of me...my face...it doesn't frighten her or make her vomit or scream or run away. She may be a crazy one, but she's brave, l say, she's bloody brave..."
Then Erik looked at Edouard again. "I haven't seen Emilie in ...oh...say...a hundred or so years." He started to laugh at the exaggeration. "Really. Haven't seen her in a long time..." His eyes though, said he really would like to see her again. His eyes and the little smile that played at the visible end of his mishapen lips. Had he forgotten Teressa so soon? Or had he given up on her? Or was he simply too drunk to know what he was talking and/or thinking about?

When Lenoir started to talk again about Emilie, Edouard got a bit angry. He downed his drink rather quickly. He pointed a finger at Lenoir, almost touching him in the chest. "You! You're the crazy one! You're half out of your mind if you can't keep away from my wife! She doesn't love you at all...she never did...She only kisses you because you mesmerize her! You stay away from her...you old ugly monster!" Lenoir was looking at Edouard, seeming a bit taken aback at the nasty comment. Edouard then turned his chair the other way so his back was facing Lenoir.
Edouard poured another drink for himself. Then he addressed Billie. "This crazy man tried to woo my wife by kidnapping her! Before our marriage...when she was singing on the stage. He masqueraded as an Angel! Can you believe it? An angel? Him? The ugliest man anyone has ever seen? And he gave her music lessons. Did a damn good job on that, but it was all a ruse to get her to love him. Then after he kidnapped her, she ripped off his mask and was in for a horrific surprise! Afterward, he wrote a horrible opera and forced her to be in it, then kidnapped her again! I went after Emilie and rescued her from the monster! So can you see why I am so angry with him? And it didn't stop there...ever since we arrived at the mansion, he has started to follow her about and kiss her whenever he gets a chance...and she lets him!"
Now it was Edouard's turn to be depressed and angry. Even though Lenoir had left Emilie alone in the past few months, Edouard felt that becuase Lenoir thought Teressa lost to him that he would turn back to Emilie. Edouard turned back to the Phantom to see what his reaction to Edouard's rant would be. But the Phantom was sitting there quietly, his eyes closed, his chin on his chest, sleeping peacefully.

Sitting there listening to Lenoir explain what happened between he and Ana. The more Lenoir tried to explain, the more Billie became a little more concerned. No exactly about Lenoir but about Ana. Granted she was 36 yrs old but this was not the sort of fragile mix up that she needed. Billie shook his head again as he rested his arms crosswise on the table and hung his head slightly. "She's a strong woman," Billie gazed at the table a moment then looked over at Lenoir. "She's had to be. She's been through a hell 'uva lot." Billie's eyes were stern, serious and betrayed a hint of what Billie had seen with Ana. "I've known her all her life. She's no where near daft. But she's had one too many broken hearts and cheats and liars take her for one hell 'uva ride. She's no fool. But you just might have been played the fool, Mister Lenoir." Slightly raising his brows wondering why this man got Ana's so stirred up. "Or did you play her? There's a reason why you ruffled her feathers." Billie was by no means rather sparse with the explanation. "As I said, women do not take a kiss lightly. There's always a meaning in a kiss."
Pouring himself a drink and downing the shot of whiskey then made a slight cringed face like he usually did with whiskey. Looking up at Edouard then over at Lenoir after Edouard spoke. When he saw Lenoir hanging his head and eyes closed he was baffled a moment. Only smirked with a slight huff-snicker when he barely heard the slight soft sound of the onset of a snore soon. Smirking and shaking his head, he poured another drink of whiskey and drank it.
