Destler was all willing to get them away, working together with the half-masked half-wit would be nearly impossible since the other man preferred to be the singular chivalrous knight. In a moment Destler twisted around and reached out to grab Adina but he never got that far.
Twisting around before he could touch Adina with a blurred fear and stepped back to where he had placed himself between HIM and Lenoir and Adina absent-mindedly. Standing tall in hopes to intimidate but what ever was he thinking?!? This was Lucifer Himself! NO ONE and NOTHING could intimidate Him, except God.
Another blur and he felt the burning grasp of Claude and felt so stifled that he could not breathe and was burning hot. Frozen and unable to move even thought he tried in defiance to the being that cursed him so long ago. Sneering as he desperately wanted to be free of the Devil's grasp.
Once he was free of Claude's grip, he stumbled away to catch himself against the cabinet. Glaring back at Claude with a vicious hate. Panting and so wanting to tell the Beast that he would NEVER do such a thing as torment a woman for the pleasure of another, especially for Claude. But it was very obvious that Destler was having an incredibly difficult time speaking to convey his disdain. Hopefully the look in his eyes would help to convey that. Not just to Claude but to Lenoir and Adina. Especially little Adina for it was not his desire to torment her. Pleasure in her, perhaps, but never torture her.
With a moment's burst of strength in the powerful presence of Claude, Destler reached for a large, long brass candlestick in hopes to stop Claude's hellish fancies. It all happened in a blurred slow motion; swinging the heavy candlestick at Claude only to have him disappear right before his eyes. The candlestick missing it's intended target and whoosh through air. Stumbling and blinking a moment as he looked around infuriated. "YOU LYING FUCKIN' BASTARD!!" Destler cried out in helpless anger! "WE ARE NOT YOURS TO PLAY WITH!"
Turning to Adina and Lenoir, stumbling a little more and slowly dropping the candlestick as he stared at them with such a wild mixture of horror and sadness. He never wanted this at all. He felt so violated and vulnerable. What had he done? He stood there staring at them both, weak in the knees and unable to move with that sickened terrified look.

When Claude appeared of a sudden, Erik stepped in front of Adina. The evil personage was so frightful and his appearance so sudden that Erik wished her were anywhere but here. He thought he could smell the sulphur. What would cause this evil spirit to appear here? It must be that Destler or Adina had summoned him in some way. Perhaps not by word but by deed. A contract with the evil fellow? Evil as the things Erik had done in his life, he would never have even considered making a deal with the devil.
Somehow, and strangely, Claude had hold of Adina. Erik could not fathom how he had pulled her away from Erik's protection. He slit her wrist and pulled out what he stated was part of her soul. Erik was horrified and astounded. He wanted her soul! Could this tiny bit which he now claimed that he possessed pull the rest of her soul and give it to him for eternal damnation? She must resist harder and they must get away from this beast!
Then Destler threw a candlestick at Claude and missed. It was not likely that he would have hit his target. Erik was again astounded. It appeared that Destler wanted no part of Claude, but it sounded as if he may have been the one to make a deal. Destler couldn't die...that seemed a large clue... Then Destler said he really didn't wish to harm Adina; he had never wished to torment her. It seemed that these two were bound to Claude in some way.
Finally the evil beast disappeared. "Destler...and you too Adina...you must resist him ...it is the only way. Let's get out of here..." Erik was more troubled now than ever for Adina. With Destler after her, she could be tortured, but Claude could take away the most precious thing she possessed...her soul...
Now Erik began also to wonder. Had Adina made some sort of deal to become alive again? Would she give in to Claude just to keep on living?

Adina turned her head when she heard the frightful yell. Oh god, no! Not Him!! Her face grew pale as she beheld the Devil for the very second time! She had seen him once when Charles had tried to give him her soul. Her heart pounded madly in her chest as she struggled to keep standing. She felt weak in his presence and thought she would surly faint.
The terrified woman cried out when He grabbed her arm and struggled to pull away. "Please, let me go!" She screamed as he cut open her wrist. For a second time, she saw the strange white mist-like substance flow from her arm. It did not hurt as she thought it would. Instead she felt sick as if she had eaten something that upset her stomach. Her head spun and she felt dizzy before Claude finally let go of her arm.
"E-Erik," She whispered, slowly looking up at Lenoir. "Please, I do not know why he is doing this to me. I never did anything to be brought back to life. It was not my choice but I fear I now have to make one: to live and try to avoid this-… This… Monster. Or give up my very soul and go back to being a mere ghost once more." She did not want to die! She wanted to live! She wanted to live for Lenoir, she felt that he was her very reason for living again. And she did not want to give that up. She was determined to keep her soul as she reached up for the masked man's hand to steady herself. She shakily rose to her feet and panted softly, looking at both men. "What are we going to do? What can we do?"

Destler rolled his eyes and shook his head as Adina went whimpering to Lenoir and muttered something more to himself as he stepped away holding his forehead and scratching it. Rather disturbed that Adina was practically throwing herself at the half-masked man. Lifting his head to turn his haunted eyes to gaze at Lenoir. The sudden realization of how this girl Adina was all over him and he, Lenoir, was so protective. Got Destler to thinking about Teressa. His poor heart was still breaking and felt rather beaten down from her rejection. He could not handle another time of love lost.
He chuckled, "Oh, yes. Resist the Devil." Laughs, "Easier said that done, you fool!" Destler barked at Lenoir. "He's one of the most powerful beings in the universe and you believe it's so easy to resist!" Destler roared in anger at Lenoir. "Ignorant fool." Before he rubbed his forehead again and slowly paced away, starting to think about what next to do.

Destler stared at Adina and himself with a strange look that Erik couldn't quite decipher. He wasn't fond of looking at Destler anyway. He was far more comfortable gazing at the beautiful Adina and protecting her. Erik put his arm about Adina again and pulled her toward him. He glanced at Destler. "What are you staring at?" he said roughly. "Why don't we get out of here? It doesn't seem safe. Your friend could be back and I don't care to speak to him again."
Erik tried to remember who had told him to "resist the devil and he will flee from you..." He suddenly realized it was from the Bible...when his mother had read it to him as a child. He had not thought he had retained any of it, but apparently he had. He had respect for the Bible, even though he had not been a good person for most of his life. But now he knew what to do....he must resist....

"H-He frightens me so, Erik," The young woman said, clutching at her chest as her hands shook. She looked at Destler and felt her shoulders relax a bit. Perhaps this man did not really wish to harm her. He seemed rather defensive- as well as offended- when he went after the Devil with the candlestick, yelling such vulgar curses that Adina had never heard before in her life. Maybe she misunderstood his actions? Maybe Destler had no intentions of harming her as the Devil had barked at him. "Then what do you propose we do, monsieur Destler? Fight this-… This horror? I believe that Lenoir is correct: we should resist this Devil and get somewhere safer. Please, you must know of a place where we can find refuge, you must."
She moved away from Lenoir, and cautiously went over to Destler to grip his hands and look up at him. Her eyes bore deeply into his and she inhaled deeply. "If you get us all out of here and to somewhere safe, I will do one thing for you. Anything you wish, and I will do it. Just. One. Thing… But not until I know that Lenoir, you, and myself are away from this evil." She knew she was taking a very big risk by allowing herself to get this close and even offer her services to Destler, but what choice did she have? She wanted to make sure that Lenoir was alright as well as Destler. He may be a frightful man, but she knew that he had no real reason to harm her.

"Lucifer is no friend of mine," glaring at Lenoir. Surely even that daft half-masked half-wit would understand that! But Destler dared not explain why he loathed and feared the Prince of Darkness so much. It was the past after all, one he unwittingly fell into.
A little taken aback by Adina's gesture of kindness. He rarely had been shown any kindness and was at a complete loss. Fear and anger was always what he had been shown ever since that fateful day. "Heaven," he stated with a sunken face and a somber soothing tone. "Heaven is the only place to escape Him. You can run to the ends of this Earth and still He will find you. There is no escape from the Devil Himself." His eyes shifted from Adina to Lenoir then back to Adina again. Once again he was taken aback as she offered her services to him. Why? And what services? Narrowing his eyes to look at Adina and measure her up. His heart was so black and void at the moment, he could feel nothing but solitude that he was building up around him. His work was his passion now since all other passions were taken from him. Save for his music. The one talent and passion that Claude had left him with but took all others. A fear welled in him at such thoughts of any other passions that would arise would also be taken from him. Just like Christine Day.
Stepping back and over to the door, he opened it and motioned for them to exit. There was nothing he could say or do to console either of them. For ever he himself was not consoled in the slightest. He needed to be alone now. Somehow he felt that Adina would not leave him be though.

"Yes, heaven is the only permanent escape from the evil one," said Erik, remembering his mother's lessons. "But even here, he cannot take your soul unless you let him." He turned to Adina. "You must not let him take any more. He feeds on ignorance of his ways too." Erik blinked. He was beginning to sound like a preacher. But all this was coming back to him and he wanted nothing to do with Claude. And he wanted to protect Adina at any cost. She had already given up something of herself to Claude and Erik didn't want her to belong to the evil one.
"It's also true that there are some places that are much more evil than the world in general...I can't believe that you don't know that, Destler," said Erik, a bit arrogantly.
And it sounded to Erik as if Destler's presence, considering he seemed to have made a deal with Claude, had pulled the evil one into the house. Perhaps that was not the only reason, but it could be a major one.
Erik was afraid that with Adina getting too close to Destler, she would be vulnerable to Claude too. However, Erik noticed that Adina's gesture of kindness toward Destler made him seem a bit more gentle. Could it be that the man was not purely evil?
Erik walked outside as Destler held the door. He tipped his hat to be polite. He wanted to catch Adina's hand again, but she seemed to be following Destler, which troubled Erik...

Adina listened to Lenoir's words and then slowly drew away from Destler. She knew he was right about Claude and she did not want her soul stolen from her again. She felt so blessed to have met Lenoir but felt sorry for Destler. Perhaps he was not as malicious as he seemed, no. She looked at him as she slipped back beside Lenoir and took hold of his arm. Now she did not wish to let go of him. Never again.
She winced softly, feeling the cut on her wrist throb with pain as she gingerly cradled the injury. She watched Destler with curiosity and really did wonder if he was only a pawn in this terrible ordeal. He seemed not to want anything to do with Claude or his evil deeds.
"Why?" She asked, her face no longer afraid but serious with a hint of anger in her voice. She dared not take her eyes off of Destler as she moved closer to Lenoir. If she had the strength, she would have slapped the man but still she felt a bit weakened. "Why did you make this deal with him? Why me? Why did I deserve to be brought back to life and not some other poor ghost?"

Slowly following Lenoir and Adina from the shattered peace of the Dining Room out into the Hallway. Nearly hanging his head with a drawn, dismal look upon his face as he was now contemplating all that had taken place lately. Could it ever get any worse?!? Bad enough that Lenoir had captured Teressa's attention but now, the Devil - or Claude as he seemed to be called nowadays - was keeping tabs if not expecting to utilize him. Absent-mindedly a gloved hand moved to his face to barely touch it for a second before lowering it, making sure no one saw the movement.
Adina just very well could not leave it all alone, could she? Granted she had a right to be upset and question, but in this case it felt more than an accusation but a guilty sentencing! This irritated Destler. Was it not enough that he already mentioned and flung his loathing upon Lucifer himself? No. Apparently not. He'd never be seen as anything. Only his music. Destler twisted around and took one lengthy step at Adina, his eyes filled with rage while his nostrils flared. "I made NO deal with the Devil! Once He has His sights on you, He'll do everything in His power to seduce or deceive you!" Pausing as he huffed to gain his wits and breath. "You have no choice." Destler's eyes shifted to Lenoir while straightening a little. "Get her out of here." With that, dismissing all that Claude wanted him to do to Adina, Destler marched away enshrouded in a dark demeanor before he stopped then took two lengthy steps, pointing a jabbing wicked finger towards Lenoir with a wild upsetting look in his eyes, "Keep her away from me!" Doing all in his power to not look at Adina, even to the point he closed his eyes, "It's for her own good," he softly muttered as he twisted back around and made haste away from Lenoir and Adina in an effort to isolate himself .

Erik drew himself up arrogantly and glared at Destler. "You're wrong, Destler. Claude cannot force you to do anything. Yes, he can deceive and seduce you. But you can say no. Of course it's harder if one has been accustomed to evil." Erik was thinking of himself whe he said that. He had done much evil and it was very hard to wrench himself away from it.
Then Destler told Erik to take Adina away ... to take her away and keep her away from him...from Destler. Erik was surprised. "You won't regret doing something good, Destler...you won't regret it. And I'll keep Adina away from you. Just don't go looking for her."
As they left Destler, Erik said to Adina, "I think in spite of it all, he is a man of his word. But keep away from him. He may not be able to control himself and may be tempted to hurt you." Erik pulled Adina close to himself and held her to comfort her.

"Thank-you, Erik," Adina whispered, huddling close to Lenoir as they both hurried out of the room. "Thank-you, mon chevalier..." She could not help but look back to Destler as he continued onward, away from Lenoir and herself. Her expression softened and she looked away and back to Erik as they hurried through the manor to escape the impending evil.
But could they really escape? Was it possible for them to get away from the evil that possessed the manor? Perhaps, perhaps not. Either way, they had to flee. And the sooner... The better.
