Adina darting away surprised him a moment. His eyes following the woman as she ran to another man. The surprise flashed upon his face again before melting to annoyance. Rolling his eyes as that hand that held Adina's face now planted upon the wall next to the doorway to the Hallway. "Bloody f*ck," he muttered under his breath. As if this day couldn't become worse than it was now. Of all people... it was the half-masked twit! Glancing over at them both he was stunned. The twit's name was also Erik? Wondrous! Another roll of his eyes as he turned his face away from the 'happy little couple'. The girl running to him. Did women enjoy him that much? The other hand moved to rest upon his hip as the other remained planted upon the wall with his face turned away in sheer annoyed amazement at the situation. His contemplation in silence over this moment was so very evident upon his face!
A grin spread upon his mouth and he chuckled. "You daft twit!" Finally looking over at Lenoir. "I was simply escorting this woman here to the kitchen and dining area so that she may at least enjoy a pleasant meal!" Glaring at Lenoir. "I've done nothing other than ... be kind," he somewhat bowed a little. "Is that, too, a crime?"
Looking at Adina, "She's reason to be frightened." this time his voice was a mixture of grave concern. "This demon estate-" his words in vile fear, "... it's inhabitants, if you call them that, want her tormented." He looked at Adina with apologetic eyes." I simply have been ensuring she does not met an untimely end... again." Granted the Demons of the Manor will not like that he divulged their desires. But putting women in danger and harming them for no apparent reason or anger they caused him was not his modus operandi.

Adina stood, trembling in Erik's arms as she looked at Destler. She whimpered and buried her head against Lenoir's chest, not wanting to look the other man in the eyes. She was pleased that Erik was there to keep her safe. "Please, Erik, please," She whispered. "Take me away from him. H-He frightens me."
"N-No, Lenoir," She cried softly. "Please, don't listen to him. I-I think he is trying to cause me grave harm." She felt warm tears running down her face as she clung tightly to Erik.
When Destler divulged the true reason for being around her... He was to torment her? Torture her, perhaps? The maid gasped and covered her mouth in horror as she trembled. Were there other inhabitants other than the evil priest and Charles who wanted to see her harmed? Perhaps.... demons? She shuddered and turned away, not wanting to see Destler's apologetic eyes. She held onto Erik's form tightly and never wanted to let go. She just never wanted to let go ever again.

Destler never seemed to take Erik seriously. He treated him as if he were a no-account idiot. Erik wasn't sure why Destler had such a low opinion of him...even enemies often respected each other. Someday he would give the fellow a good punch in his wreck of a face for being rude to him or just for the hell of it. But this wasn't the time. "If you were only being kind, why is Adina frightened?" Erik frowned. He knew Destler was up to something. Adina buried her head in Erik's chest and he pulled her closer, his arm about her back.
"Destler, you seem to make a career of frightening women... Why is that?" He could feel Adina weeping against him and he wanted to get her away from Destler, for she felt she was in grave danger. Erik wanted to know what this was all about.
Then Destler said it...some residents of the mansion...he called them demons...wanted Adina tortured. Erik frowned. "Why?" And then he frowned at Destler. Destler didn't really seem as if he were getting pleasure out of the thought of torturing Adina. Erik felt a twinge of pity for the scoundrel. He must be in a difficult situation himself. But still, that didn't excuse his actions. "So....what shall happen to you," said Erik slowly, "if you do not do as they wish? And what will happen to the rest of us?"

Hand still planted upon the wall while in his sulking annoyance only stealing a glanced at Lenoir and Adina after a while. Shifting his eyes to look at Lenoir as he spoke. His drawn annoyed expression upon his face did not change in the slightest. That is until Lenoir inquired further about the Manor demons and what would happen to them. He smirked weakly and looked away. "That is the question, isn't it?" He muttered softly.
Removing his hand from the wall and straightened up as he turned to present himself better in that fine suit of his. His eyes were bright with perhaps an idea. "I won't fall victim to them if that is what you are wanting to know." Then turned his eyes to Adina, "as for her... she has to make a choice. Not only what she wants to do here but how she will deal with the Manor demons. For they are the ones who gave her this new mortality and they plan to take it away from her soon." Not sure if he was delighted by that or not. But at the moment, this revelation took off the persecution from Lenoir. He hoped. Now that he informed them, what will they do with this information. Adina was not the subject of uncalled for torture. However now, that little red-head was a form of torment for him.

The maid's face went pale with horror. The demons! They were the ones putting Destler up to this! It had to be that priest, the Devil! Adina flinched when Destler looked at her and posed the question about her mortality. "N-No! I do not wish to die again. Now that I am alive, I feel I have so much to live for now. I have finally moved on and left my past behind." The maid felt more tortured now than ever in her life. She looked up at Lenoir and held even tighter to the man who had stepped in to stop the madness.
A choice? Adina had to make a choice about the demons and how she was to deal with them? She only looked at Destler with fear and frantically shook her head. "I will not bargain with them for my life, if that is what you are proposing. I-If they wish to take back my spirit..." She paused and looked at Lenoir once again. She didn't want to die, why would she? She felt as if she had sometime, or someone, to live for now. "Then I will fight them tooth and nail for my soul."

Adina clung to Erik even tighter. He liked it very much that she had chosen him as a sort of champion, but there was something wrong here. "Adina, tell me why these demons seem to have power over you and Destler. Did either of you make some sort of bargain with them? It is never a good idea to do that." Erik knew a good bit about this from his childhood. He had himself been accused of being some sort of demon, simply because of his face. Of course he hadn't, it had merely been a fluke of nature. But he had done some reading on it and had come to the conclusion that it is a very bad thing to let some evil spiritual force take hold of you. It is very difficult to get separated from that evil then. Of course Erik had himself fallen into much evil himself, but he had no wish to be controlled by an evil force.
He felt horrified at the thought that perhaps Adina had done something to deserve the evil coming after her. Destler...well he would not be surprised. In fact it might explain some things. "Adina, have you done anything to make them think they have power over you?" Erik hoped with all his heart she had not made any bargains with demons. "What about you, Destler?"

Pinching his face as though he had a mouthful of pickling juice or vinegar. "THEY don't need any reason. THEY believe they have claim over all in the Manor. Especially HIM!" Destler barked at Lenoir. "To THEM, Adina is theirs." Flung his hand off in her direction. "All THEY want is to torment her. There is no reason by their amusement and wants." Looking back at Lenoir. There was no way he'll divulge his past of his accidental mistake of falling prey to the Devil Himself those many years ago.
"Question is now... how will Adina try to stay alive. Maybe there is away around her unfortunate circumstance. For THEY are bound and determine to take her soul back by week's end," he was by no means gentle about it but rather forward. Watching Adina with a calculated eye. The woman was pretty enough indeed and now it was all up to her. Because of her, he was indeed involved with her. Whether he or she liked it or not.

Adina's tear-stained eyes looked up at Lenoir as she shook her head frantically. "N-No! I would never do such a thing, Erik. I do not wish to be involved in any of this. I never wanted this to happen!" The terrible fear that welled up within her trembling soul was nearly as painful as the now stinging tears that trickled down her face.
She managed to look back at Destler as her tight grip on Lenoir softened a bit. She seemed almost hypnotized yet frightened at the same time. Her hands slowly slid off the masked man's lapels as she turned towards the other, and more terrifying, Erik. "Then so be it. Let the spirits, and yourself, do as they wish... I will not-." She paused to collected herself and keep from sobbing. "I will not run away anymore. I will go with you, if that is what you desire. Do what you will with me but do not harm Lenoir."

As Adina let go of him, Erik pleaded with her. "No, Adina! You must not let them win! Even if it means that you cannot keep your body for more than a week...Do not surrender to them!" A tear escaped the edge of Erik's left eye and started to roll down his cheek before he roughly brushed it away.
"Adina, please! Nothing is worth having them take you over, having you turn evil." Erik turned toward Destler, with a bit of fury in his voice. "You are behind this, aren't you? You made a bargain with demons and now you wish to involve Adina in it too. Well, I tell you it won't work! She will resist their efforts, won't you Adina? Hopefully you will be able to hold on to your body, but even if not, even if you are only a ghost again, I should wish for you to be free from those demons. And you, Destler, you stay away from her too!"
"Adina, resist them...don't give in..."

Rolling his eyes at Adina's pathetic attempt at martyrdom. It was futile really, this attempt to offer herself like a lamb for the slaughter. She was no pure angel from Heaven but neither was she as tainted as most sinners. Planting his hand once again upon the wall as he hung his head, shifted his weight to one leg and plans a fist upon his hip. He nearly chuckled at this foolishness. Nearly. "Oh, Yes, Adina. As if it would work." Looking up at her but before he could say another work, Lenoir had to toss in his two cents.
Glaring at Lenoir for the accusation. "I made NO such deal!" Destler boomed in fury as he slammed his fist with a crack upon something wooden, a high boy-like cupboard - that caused everything in it to shake with a couple china items crashing over and breaking. "Oh, yes! THEY begged me, tried to force me. But I made NO such deal!" Glaring at the other man. "You infuriate me, Lenoir." he growled in a low malice.
He thought about urging her to save herself but he restrained himself and stood back. "No. No. Let her. If she believes she's not worth saving, if she really wants to be a martyr. Let her go to THEM.
From across the room, two items of glass was flung from a mantle at high velocity to a wall, narrowing missing Lenoir, Adina and Destler, shattering the glass. Destler ducked and twisted his face away from the shattering glass. Then twisted back around to look at Adina and Lenoir with such a look of surprise he was stiff and silent.

The girl's head whipped around as she listened to both Destler and Lenoir. Her mind was reeling and her heart pounded violently in her chest. Should she give in to the demons or resist them? Give up her soul or try to save her mortality? Oh, the thoughts were torture upon her mind! What was she to do? What was she to do?!
Adina flinched and cowered against Lenoir when Destler slammed his fist against the cabinet. She quickly reconsidered sacrificing herself to the spirits. What worse torture would they possibly place upon her? Rip apart her soul before leaving her a ghost again? She had read about the horrific incubi in books and the very thought that these creatures may very well exist in the bedeviled manor terrified her to the core! But then...
She noticed something on Lenoir. Was it-... A tear? She felt salty pools begin to fill her eyes as well when she looked into his. "Lenoir..." She whispered softly, now more than ever to keep both her soul and body intact and away from the demons! Suddenly, her look of determination shifted to that of shock when she saw the cup being flung across the room towards them by an invisible hand. At first she thought it was Destler who had thrown the objects but his expression of bewilderment only gave the impression that something else had done the deed... What was going on in this manor?

Adina seemed in a quandary as to what to do. He held her close and tried to calm her with his arm around her, his hand gently rubbing her arm. "So Destler, you have nothing to do with this? You made no deal with these demons? Then why are they after you? And Adina, you are sure you did nothing to make them attack you?" He looked down at her, hoping she had not. {And you must not give in, Adina," he reiterated. "You must be strong."
Then Destler pounded his fist on the wooden piece of furniture. Erik glared at him. He was just trying to frighten Adina even more. But things were made worse when unseen hands began to fling breakable items at all three of them. "Good lord, we have poltergeist," said Erik. "Let's get out of this room and go outside; somewhere we can think." He glanced at Destler. "You too, unless you want your teeth knocked out by those unseen ruffians. Come on. Perhaps what we need here is a temporary alliance."

"No!" Growled Destler as he glared annoyingly at Lenoir. But he dared not say anything further as to WHY they targeted him. He wasn't looking for pity and Lenoir did not know have to know his curse. No one had to know. Barely rolling his eyes at how sickeningly sweet Lenoir was behaving. Such a comfort to women. Or perhaps he was a womanizer! And yet... perhaps this was a hint for him to keep his eyes upon Lenoir. If he was indeed a womanizer, perhaps he could use such information to get Teressa back!
His head twisted as a chair moved. Inching ever so slightly away from the table at the opposite end. Not that he was frightened but how can one battle an invisible force that cannot be reconciled with? Sneering at Lenoir with an incredibly strained grin, as he backed out watching the room intently to see what next would try to be thrown at them or perhaps a force that would push them out. Destler's uneasiness was so very apparent. He loathed not being able to be on equal terms with a supernatural force.
Chuckling uneasily as he slipped out of the Dining Room with Adina and Lenoir. "You really think we will be safe from THEM? So long as we are on this damned estate... we are completely at their mercy!"

The poor woman shivered against Lenoir as he comforted her. She wiped her eyes and tried to keep strong as she looked up at him. "N-No, Lenoir," She managed, her throat tight as she sniffled. "I swear, I made no such deal, nothing of the kind. Please, Lenoir, please."
She buried her head against his chest as she saw the chair moving, the one Destler was watching. She was horrified by the strange disturbances around them and it made her heart pound violently against her chest. She clasped a hand to her chest and tried to steady her breathing.
She had to do something. She had to! But no sooner was she about to try and give herself up to the demons on the manor, then she found herself running out of the room with both Lenoir and Destler beside her... This was so strange! Why were these creatures doing all of this?
"Stop this, both of you!" She finally snapped, whipping her head between them both. "Now, I know this is going to sound completely mad but-... We must work together to flee from these terrible apparitions. Where is the safest place in the manor? I know there are other hidden rooms and structures beneath the floors and I know you both know where they are. We must get underground. Perhaps we will be safer there."

"NO!" HIS voice rang out in a loud, raging bellow. The Devil appeared in a swirl of black smoke, his eyes staring malevolently from Destler to the maid and then the intruder, Lenoir. "YOU!" He stalked over to his servant and gripped his shirt, staring down with a fiery rage in his dark eyes. He pressed his nose against the disfigured man's to emphasis his point. "You worthless, sniveling, incompetent ASS! We ask you to do the simplest thing: to torture this girl, and you can't even do that right!.... And YOU..."
Claude prowled towards both the maid and Lenoir, gripping the terrified girl's chin in his hand. "You were supposed to DIE!! Supposed to die like a fish with its belly ripped open! Die like a bird with its neck snapped! Now we shall have to leave you alive until we feel it is befitting us to rip out your soul! And there is nothing you or your little knight here-." He gestured towards Lenoir. "Can do about it! You all shall get to know us better, see our true power soon. But for now..."
The Devil grabbed Adina and slit open her wrist, letting only a small portion of her soul slip out of her. He wanted to weaken her and watched as she struggled to pull away only to collapse upon the ground. He snatched up the small bit of soul and let his long black tongue snake around it and bring it into his mouth. He swallowed. "Perfect... Gentlemen? We bid you both adieu. Oh, and do watch out for flying knives."
With that, he disappeared, leaving the trio alone once more in the dark of the manor.
