"I'd like to call you Nadareh, if you will let me...it means rare...and I could not think of a more lovely rarity than yourself." Erik smiled gently, not wanting to upset her. He could sense the coldness in her gaze, and it kept him on edge, slightly. If she were angry, he was in a prime position for her to attack.
"My name is Erik Lavalais, but you may call me Erik should you so choose to..." Erik began to wonder...would he get out of here alive? Had he insulted her with his want to give her a name? Or perhaps she just had carnal instincts that dictated that he had to die...Well, she'd have quite the time trying to kill him...Even he had not figured out the secret to killing himself yet.

Nadareh… It wasn’t a name that she would have chosen. Then again, she’d never chosen a name at all. She had no use for them among herself or her Master. She was always the Siren, and he was always Master… and that i]other[/i]…. Well… the Siren preferred not to speak about her… After all, there wasn’t much to speak of anyway. The only names she knew were things that generally tasted quite bitter on her tongue.
But then what he did next surprised her even more. He not only named her, but he gave her a name as well! The creature was not entirely certain of how to react to this attempt to… humanize her. She was not human, after all, and could hardly expect to ever be regarded as such. It was all so strange and foreign…
Nadareh…
“Erik Lavalais…” she repeated in a slow, almost monotonic manner, so as she could better taste the way it felt upon her tongue. It did not taste bitter like most of the other names she knew. She was not quite certain how it tasted. Not yet at least. She raised herself up more out of the water, staring at him intently with eyes slightly narrowed, as if to observe him in more detail.
She was not used to being regarded with such dignity, such respect… And then, she repeated more definitely, “Erik Lavalais, you are an odd human being.”

Erik smirked, giving a little soft laugh. "Indeed, I have been told that many times." He watched her, carefully. He wasn't sure if she liked the name he'd picked or not. But he was certain that she was observing him with careful scrutiny. So she was curious about him as well...Perhaps they'd get along, then.
"If you do not wish for me to call you anything, I am willing to accept your decision." Erik didn't move. If he moved, she might grab him and drag him under. He wondered how she ate....what she ate...
If she took little pieces off of him before he could get away, would they grow back? Or would they, like the chunk missing from his left ear, never grow back and serve as a reminder of his own stupidity?

The creature, or ‘Nadareh,’ as this human had decided to call her, did not at all comprehend the immense irony behind her statement at this Erik Lavalais being quite ‘odd.’ What she thought was odd was not the way he looked, or didn’t need breath, or anything of that sort that a normal person might find weird... No, what she found odd was that he treated her like any person who at least had the excuse of being human... She did not dislike this so much as it felt... well... strange...
Her colorless lips stretched into a very thin line as she came to the conclusion of her examination and replied to his final question. “You may call me by this ‘name,’ should you wish to...” His respect for still poked at her mind, but the pleasant feeling that came with it allowed her to rest without causing much fuss.
