It had been a trying night for Erik. He'd been brought to consciousness by another nightmare, and to get rid of his anxiety, he decided to take a walk through the manor.
Always the same, always the same...but why must he be forced to relive his greatest error? What had he done to bring this upon himself? Perhaps his first murder, his accidental kill, was a crime against God and heaven itself? But he hadn't meant it! It wasn't his fault! He didn't know his own strength...And to feel it every night, hear the cracks and rattling exhale...To see the light leave her eyes...It was too much to bear.
Overcome with emotion, Erik let out a choked sob. He ran through the nearest door, not wishing to lose his dignity by weeping in the hall where anyone could walk in on him. He hardly noticed his surroundings as he leaned against the nearest wall, silently weeping with an occasional choked inhale. The room echoed with the noise of his melancholy, and he was glad that there was no one here. Or at least, he thought there was no one...

The creature rested in the bottom of the pool as the moon's light shown through the clear glass panels overhead, obstructed in part by the fronds of the potted palms around the water's edge. She stretched her long black serpentine tail, moving it slowly and purposefully and creating a light yet pleasant current. She was reclined in a light slumber, so as to stay alert for any poor wandering soul that might stumble upon her shores.
Suddenly she stirred. There was motion on the surface. Someone had just entered the pool chambers. Curious as to who it could be at this hour (for there was seldom a soul around when the moon shown so bright in this place), she slowly surfaced. Catching sight of a tall masked man... Master?... But it couldn't be. She could always sense when the Master was nearby, and this was not him, which only served to make her even more curious.

Erik's knees gave and he sank down the wall, sitting on the floor and burying his face in his hands.
Good God, you are such a child. Shut up. But really, crying? Whenever you think about the goddamned subject? WELL I'M BLOODY SORRY IF I FEEL REMORSE FOR MY PAST ACTIONS! Look, Erik, you need to learn to build a bridge and get over the goddamned subject.
Erik sniffed loudly. He hated it when he made such points. He was acting like a child. He had to get over this. Then perhaps the nightmares would stop...? He sighed, reaching into his pocket for his handkerchief.

The creature continued to gaze upon him with curiosity, climbing up the steps that led down into her waters, in order that she might get a better look. He really did look very much like the master... only his hair was longer. And she could not yet tell if their faces were the same, for he worse a black full-face mask, similar to the one her master wore. Very similar...
Why did this man resemble him so much? She had recalled one of the other intruders with his white mask that covered only a portion of his face, but this one was different. Much, much different...

Heaving a sigh, Erik removed his mask, wiping his eyes with his handkerchief. Funny, how he always kept a multitude of handkerchiefs on his person yet lacked the nose he needed them for. Once his eyes were dry, he wiped out the inside of his mask. The leather would be stained again, and he'd have to go through a ton of trouble to clean it all again...He groaned.
"Grand....just GRAND...." He picked up the mask, looking at it as though it were a face. "I go through far too much trouble for you...bloody thing." He tossed it a couple of feet in front of him, watching it slide across the floor. He had a bit of a controversial relationship with that mask. He both hated it and loved it, it hurt him and comforted him...With a slight chuckle, Erik connected the dots to a funny realization. He'd wanted to be married for so long, well THERE, right there, was the only thing that he'd ever be coupled with. That bloody, godforsaken scrap of leather that covered his face.

That face.... Again, it looked so similar to that of her Master... But how could this possibly be? Who was he? What was he? The fact that he so closely resembled her Master was simply uncanny!...
She looked at the mask which he had tossed to the floor. So very similar... Without making a single noise, the creature reached out a few of her long thin tentacles of hair and picked up the mask from the ground, bringing it toward her. When it was close enough, she took it in her hand and stared at it, turning it over and over in her hands and tracing every detail with her long, claw-like fingernails, her pale eyes scanning it in observation.

Erik froze. A creature had just picked up his mask....It...No, she...she'd just picked up his mask with her hair. He cocked his head, blinking a couple of times before getting to his feet and cautiously making his way over to her on the steps. When he got about three feet from her, he crouched down, holding out his gloved hand. He stared intently at her, watching her, observing her. What sort of glorious creature was this...?
"Do you speak...?" Erik thought he sounded silly. If she didn't speak any of his languages, he'd be at quite a loss for what to do...He'd start with his native tongue - French - and go down the list from there. He went through a little observational rundown of what she might be. So, paler skin, darker hair. Obviously of some Mediterranean or Middle Eastern background from that fact alone. But blue eyes....clear blue eyes...They were gorgeous...

The creature continued to study the mask, her feelers and claws brushing over the thing as if searching for some obscure detailing that might not otherwise be found. Her cold, pale eyes returned to the figure of the man who so closely resembled her master when he asked her the question.
Do you speak...?
“That depends,” she said, in perfect French (for she could speak any language that the Master could speak). Who was he? She had thought her master to be quite unique in his appearance. Granted, there had been that intruder in the white mask quite some time before, but this one.... he was so similar.... She tilted her head slightly, her eyes returning briefly to the mask she held, and then looking back up at him once more.

Erik grinned excitedly. She spoke French. "Where are you from?" Oh, this was a treat...a new creature, yet undiscovered, and here he was, having a conversation with her! Were there males of her kind? Where was she from? What was she, even? How did her hair do that?
He inched closer, hand still outstretched to her. Should he take off his gloves? Perhaps...but what if she was poisonous? Or toxic to the touch...well, he was hard to kill, so perhaps it wouldn't hurt him if she was. His ponytail slipped over his shoulder from the slightly awkward angle he was crouched at, but he didn't touch it. He didn't want to startle the beautiful creature in front of him.
"Do you speak any other languages? Forgive me for all the questions, but you...you mystify me...May I have my mask back?" Slowly, he motioned for her to come closer and hand him his mask.

This man, whoever he was, seemed as fascinated by her as she was by him. So many questions he kept asking... Her pale eyes narrowed a little in thought. Should she answer him, or should she not? It was a bit difficult to discern. His entire existence baffled her so.
“بله، من به زبان های دیگر صحبت می کنند” She said. “In effetti, parlo molte lingue. Ich spreche alle Sprachen, die mein Meister weiß.” She traced her fingers lightly over his mask, staring down at it for a brief moment before returning her gaze to the peculiar man. “Before I return this,” she said, “I have a few questions myself...”

"Ask away." Erik kept his voice smooth and slow. He didn't want to scare her, and he was perfectly fine with answering her questions. He brought his hand back, sitting on the tile by the pool. It would be interesting to see what she asked him.
This was all very exciting for him. He enjoyed things like this, finding new species, learning more about them. If she'd been a normal woman, he would've been ashamed to have stayed so long in front of her without the mask on, but because she hadn't reacted in fear, Erik felt comfortable around her. Hopefully that wasn't a mistake.
What sorts of things would she ask him? After all, a brillant creature like her could probably discern many things about him just from the clothes he was wearing and the earrings he had on. She was definitely brilliant....and she spoke the same languages that he did...

((fail post is fail))
The creature traced a claw along the inside edge of one of the eye holes in the mask, her long, dark tail slowly skimming the surface of the water of the pool she was in. Her pale eyes looked up once more at the man, locking gaze with his burning yellow ones.
“Who are you?” she asked in a cool voice. “And why do you so closely resemble the Master?”

"My name is Erik Lavalais..." Erik looked right back at her, hoping that perhaps eye contact would establish trust. "I do not know who this master of yours is, but I have heard tell that there is a man here who I closely resemble...I don't know why that is, nor do I know why we share such uncommon traits."
All Erik could really think of was the hypnotic colour of her eyes. What a curious creature she was...He cocked his head a little bit. What a beautifully strange and elegant being...

“Erik Lavalais...” the creature repeated pensively. Not only did this other man resemble her Master, but he bore the sacred name of him as well, although she did not recall 'Lavalais' ever having any involvement or association with it. He further explained that there was another man here that he had been told he resembled – her Master, of course – though she could not fathom why or how anyone else would know of him.
“The Master does not appreciate intruders,” she hissed, the muscles and tendrils of her body tensing. “Is the Master aware of your trespassing?” Normally she would never ask such a question, but this man fascinated her enough to allow him to live a few moments while she interrogated him. Besides, she still held his mask. If he was anything at all like her Master, he would not leave without it...

"I..." Erik paused. She'd reacted angrily...he couldn't have that happen, he didn't want to cause her to be angry with him. So the truth was probably the best route.
"No, your master does not know that I am here...To be honest, I didn't know that I was trespassing on his grounds, so I shall be off if that is what you wish...I shall like my mask back though." He reached out for it. Maybe she'd give it back, and if she wanted him to leave, he wouldn't come back...He didn't know that he was trespassing, so that was forgiveable. Right? Of course, it had to be forgiveable.
