Hadders led the Mist into the empty room of their country manor house just outside of Stockholm. This particular room was empty because it was to be Stefan's room--or as he had grown accustomed to calling his unborn son ( because he was so convinced it was a boy ), Stevey. There were no decorations, and the wall was painted white. It was really rather plain, but with some work it would be the perfect room for little Stevey.
He was covering her eyes, instructing her not to look until he gave her permission to do so. He then lifted his hands and smiled. "Alright, love, you can look now."

((Misty unless stated otherwise))
Misty smiled as Hadders led her on through the mansion. He had told her to close her eyes, but she had such a strong desire to open them. "Why can't you just tell me where we're going?" she laughed. "What's the big surprise?" She tried to peek a couple of times, but he promptly prevented her from looking. Where could he be taking me? she wondered to herself.
After some wandering through twist after turn (she had absolutely no idea where there were headed, as she was still growing accustomed to the layout of the new house), the pair finally stopped and lifted his hands from her eyes. Alright, love, you can look now... The Mist looked around and saw a big, empty room with no furnishings and plain walls. "... What am i looking at, dear?"

"Just a few more minutes, darling." he replied with a chuckle to her questions. "You'll see, you'll see."
When she finally opened her eyes, he expected her to be confused. Hadders walked over to her and looped his arms around her waist affectionately. "This will be Stefan's room. Or Isabelle's if you insist." he added quickly with a grin. "Of course we still need to decorate it...but I thought that it would be perfect for the baby...what do you think?"

“Oh Raoul! It's perfect! And yes, I do insist” the Mist said, smiling. She leaned back against him, enjoying the security of his arms. She gave a contented, motherly sigh. “Little Stefan or Isabelle is going to be one lucky child...”
“Oh! We could put the crib over here, and the toy chest over there... Just think of it, dear” And she reached up and kissed his cheek.

He grinned at her comment and nodded. "I'm glad you think so...when I first saw it I had thought that it would work well as a nursery." Their child was indeed going to be lucky--he was going to give him everything he could to make him happy, and he would always strive to make time for their child, unlike his father had for him.
Whenever they had been together he had always seemed distracted and half-hearted in his conversations, as the old Count had missed Hadders's mother, who had died giving birth to him. But Stevey would have both of his parents' love. That is granted that she... He didn't allow himself to finish that thought. Of course after his mother suffering that fate, of course it was a distant worry in the back of his mind. A frown crept onto his face momentarily, but he shook his head and replaced it with a warm smile instead as she began picking out where the furniture would go. "Yes...it'll be wonderful when Stevey arrives. Stevey de Chagny..." he said to himself, unable to get rid of the grin on his face. He pressed his lips to her forehead and sighed as well, picturing what their son would look like. He imagined that he would look a lot like him, perhaps with her hair and his eyes..

“Well I can certainly see why you would think so. It's nice an spacious, good for moving around so the baby does not accidentally hit anything from being cramped in a too-small room...”
And then she could not help but to giggle and temporarily desist from her per-arrangement of the locations of various pieces of furniture in the future nursery. “Stevey de Chagny?” she asked, with an amused grin upon her face.

He nodded and then took another look around the room, trying to imagine it filled with furniture. And then he tried to imagine their child. "Christine, do you think he'll like it? Or she..." he added before she could correct him with a slight smile. Would he like him? He thought he could do a good enough job of being a father--or at least he hoped he could.
"Yes--Stevey de Chagny. Monsieur le Vicomte Stevey de Chagny. Capitan Stevey de Chagny--that is should he decide to follow in my footsteps." His son--their son--the naval officer...whatever he did he was sure that he would make the both of them proud. He tentatively reached a hand to her stomach and smiled. "Stefan de Chagny..." he repeated softly. The smile soon faded as that unspoken fear flooded back into his mind, and he tried to hide the worry but couldn't. He pulled away his hand and tightened his arms around her, trying to expell the thought from his mind.

“Oh, I most certainly hope that he or she will,” Misty said, grinning widely “Do you think that the baby will like us?” It was a silly question, really, for a baby was naturally attached to its parents, but she wanted to know more if it would continue liking them even as he or she grew to be a young lady or gentleman.
She giggled when he began speaking about 'Captain Stevey de Chagny.' She wasn't going to correct him this time. No, she was far too amused by his ridiculous names from 'Stefan de Chagny', should the child end up being a boy. When he hugged her close, she sighed contentedly and closed her eyes, resting a hand on his arm. She couldn't have been happier than she was there in that moment, standing there with her beloved husband.

He nodded insistantly. "Of course he'll like us. Or she." he added, rolling his eyes before she could correct him. Yes, he was certain they would be good parents--well, of course she would. He was a bit worried about himself. His father had been so distant with him growning up, and he didn't want his relationship with Stefan to be the same. Of course he did know why their relationship had been like that...
He tried to convince himself that nothing was going to happen to Misty, but he couldn't help but worry incessantly. He stroked her hair, deep in thought before finally blurting out what had been in the back of his mind ever since she told him they were having a baby. "Darling what if...when I was born, m-my mother passed..." He was unable to finish the sentence, swallowing hard.

((From this point out, Misty will be posting for Misty rather than Blondie substituting and posting for Misty))
Misty giggled at his self-correction and planted a kiss on his cheek. She gave a motherly sigh and then rested a hand on her stomach while she looked over the room again with a dreamy sort of far-off smile on her face as Raoul stroked her hair.
Misty's smile faded however when Raoul began to speak of his mother. “Oh, I.... I'm sorry, dear... I... I didn't realize.... How did she pass?” She had a funny sinking feeling inside of her that she already knew the answer to that dreaded question she had dared to ask him.

He shook his head, not meeting her eyes. "She died in childbirth. She died because of me." he stated bluntly, his voice cracking involuntarily. "Christine I can't...I can't lose you...I can't do this alone."
His father had tried and failed to raise him on his own. Their relationship had been virtually nonexistent, and his brother had really been the one to take care of him after his death. Even though he didn't want to always admit it, his brother's influence had paid a huge role in the man he was today. But he was certain that he could not raise Stefan on his own...should something happen to Misty...he would be devastated to say the least.

Misty's heart sank a little. Her mother had died the same way, but she wasn't going to tell him that. She didn't want poor Hadders to be even more worried and upset about the situation than he already was. If both of their mothers had died in childbirth, then there was probably a good chance that she would as well...
She turned to him and placed a hand on his cheek reassuringly, putting on a smile so as to try to comfort him. “Everything is going to be all right, dear. I'm not going anywhere. I promise you that. No matter what happens, I will always be with you.” She reached up and kissed him gently, talking his hand and pressing it to her abdomen. “I promise.”

Hadders looked up when she tried to assure him that nothing would happen. He wanted to believe her, but he couldn't help but be afraid. His mother had died because of him...and now he might lose Misty as well--he didn't think he'd be able to go on if he did. In any case he was certain he'd be as bad a father as his own without her beside him.
He kissed her back lightly and nodded, still shaken. "Alright...I believe you." He smiled slightly as she lifted his hand to her stomach and sighed. "I wonder what Stefan would think of his father being such a coward over this."

Misty hugged Hadders tight, wanting so greatly for him to stop worrying so much. Thinking the worst would not help them at all in their preparations for the future with the newest member of the family – whether that be a little Stefan or a little Isabelle.
“You're not being a coward, dear. You had a well-rooted fear that merited a genuine concern and you voiced this concern. There is nothing wrong with being afraid, Raoul. Everyone is afraid of something.” How true thee words were, but Misty wondered if Hadders would really listen to them at all or if he would just shrug them off like he did most other words of advice.

Hadders shook his head even as she spoke. He had been trained to have no fear, and even if he was afraid--which in reality was an understatement, as he was terrified--he was never supposed to show that fear. It made him appear weak, and that was something that neither a vicomte nor a captain could afford to be.
"I just..." he trailed off and then continued, "I just want him--or her--to be able to look up to me and not see someone who's afraid, but someone who's strong, someone who will be able to pick them up and guard and guide them, not a coward..."
