The Past
Father: Charles Carriere
Mother: Marie Carriere
Spouse: Belladova
Son: Erik Carriere
Friend: Christine Nicole Daae, Count Philippe de Chagny
History: As a child, Gerard grew up in a conflicting family. His mother and father didn’t get along and often got into fights that seemed to shatter the glass windows of their small Swedish hut. Because of those fights, his father left when he was only four, leaving his mother alone with Gerard. For about three years after his father left, Gerard and his mother struggled with their thin relationship. His mother would often come home intoxicated with issues with her anger. When he was only ten years old, Gerard’s mother died in a crash involving her, in a drunken state, and a carriage pulled by a team of two horses. Gerard was sent to live with his Aunt Jen.
When Gerard was around twenty he met a young woman, by the name of Eileen and loved her with all of his heart, after seeing each other for about three years, Gerard asked her to marry him. Then he was still in Sweden and after she said yes and they were married, he took her to Paris to celebrate their marriage on their honeymoon.
But Gerard met another woman at Paris as he was working at the Opera Populaire. She was a dancer, and went by the name of Belladova. Gerard was unable to keep his eyes off her, and many times found himself so engrossed in staring at her striking beauty, that he neglected his duties.
Time went by and soon the two of them became lovers, neither Gerard’s wife or Belladova knew about the other and Gerard planned to keep it that way. One spring morning, Belladova sang for Gerard, telling him that it was private to her, but he convinced her to do an audition and soon became the star of Paris. However that didn’t interest her, she thought only for Gerard.
One morning she rushed to his side as he was fishing to tell him that a child was on the way and that the two of them should get married. He still hadn’t told her about his wife and had no intention of, so he spoke not a word to her as she told him her news. Then she proceeded to walk into the water in attempt to drown herself. Gerard jumped in after her and pulled her to safety. A week later, however, Gerard left.
But months later, he found her again. She was buying a medicine from a traveling merchant to get ride of the child she carried. Gerard took the flask before she could drink from it and smashed it on the ground. As he got her money back from the traveler Belladova went into labor. He hurried her to the barn kept for the animals underneath the Opera Populaire since there was no time for anything else. She gave birth to Erik Carriere. Despite his face, she thought he was the most beautiful child of all the earth, Gerard on the other hand, had a hard time accepting his son. Belladova would sing to her son all the time and would spend hours staring at him. When she died from a fever of some sort, Gerard was left to look after Erik.
But with his mother gone, the child began to cry and those cries would be heard from above and the legend of the Opera Ghost was born. In attempt to keep his son safe, Gerard let the rumors of the Opera Ghost grow. When Gerard became manager of the Populaire he knew that it would be slightly easier, yet harder at the same time, to keep Erik safe. The position poised new challenges for Gerard, but he managed to keep Erik safe all those years.

Oh God…Erik… Gerard found himself thinking as he held his dying son close to him. Tears formed in his eyes and fled down his face. Christine was there too, crying as well. Phillip stood in the background along with all the cops. Erik murmured softly Christine’s name as she slipped off his mask and kissed his forehead and placed it back on his face.
Gerard couldn’t take it anymore; he looked away and felt heavy tears falling down his face. His son was going to die because he’d shot him. Something Gerard knew he would regret, even though Erik had wanted him to do it. As his son died in his arms Gerard briefly closed his eyes. When he reopened them he saw Christine fight back the tears and then get up and go to Phillip, trying to dry her eyes. Gerard stayed right there, holding his soon.
