Basic Information
Teressa Antoinette Lavalais, nee de Lyon (Duchess)
Age:
86, but she looks 19.
Canon or OC?:
Phantom OC[/size]

Appearance
5’11”
Body type:
Tall and thin, with lean muscles. She walks with a fluidity that clearly shows off the fact that she's a dancer.
Eye color:
She has brilliant red eyes, and some people have mistaken her for an albino because of this.
Wardrobe:
She likes to wear things that show off her figure. Her favorite dress is a floor length black dress from the late 1800s area of style. It has a square neckline that shows off her chest but allows for nice jewelery to be noticed as well. The sleeves are three quarter sleeves with lace cuffs and glass beadwork for decoration. The bodice of the dress is elegantly decorated with a brocaded pattern and lace embellishments. The skirt goes down to the floor, with an elegant draped bustle. However, when she wakes up, she'll be wearing one of her outfits from Persia. It's a turqouise pair of sirwal with a matching midriff baring bolero and white undershirt. Accompanying this outfit would be a plethora of gold jewelery and henna tattoos. But either way, she won't be caught without an elegant domino mask. Usually, she wears a simple gilded mask, to cover up a facial deformity.
General Appearance:
She's tall and thin, with a long face and strong cheekbones. Her blonde hair is wavy, slightly frizzy, and goes down to her waist. She usually keeps it in a bun or a braid when she goes out, but she takes her hair down when she wants to be comfortable. She has large, slightly sunken red eyes, with long eyelashes and lightly hooded eyes. Her facial deformity covers only the areas around her eyes and cheekbones, where her skin is yellowing and gaunt. Other than that, her skin is a pale, flawless white. She is muscular, but still retains a thin and physically fit physique.

Personality
Teressa LOVES her dancing. It is her passion, and since she was a child she’s been studying it. Her parents let her start studying ballet at age five, and she’s stuck with it ever since. She loves any form of dance or acrobatics, and she feels best when performing. She likes sleeping in, refusing to get up until she “feels like gracing the world with her presence.” She also likes her absinthe and wine, but absinthe is her drink of preference. She only drinks it when it’s prepared Bohemian style, insisting that if it’s prepared any other way, “the flavours aren’t properly spread out.” Teressa dislikes any woman who gets too close to her adoptive father, Erik Lavalais. She also has a perpetual distrust of men, after suffering a traumatic experience when she was 19. She believes that she’ll never find a significant other because of her facial deformity, so she doesn’t like it when men profess any sort of affection to her unless they really mean it. In order for her to trust anyone, they have to know her for a while, and even then, she’s a little skeptical that they’re truly friends. She has a habit of swaying to any sort of music that starts playing, and she’ll start dancing if she thinks no one’s watching. If she sees an abandoned stage, she’ll dance and pretend like she’s performing for an audience. When she gets comfortable around a person, the way you can tell is if she lets her hair down. Because she was born in the 1700s, she was raised to believe that unless you were in the company of close friends or in a private setting, you must keep your hair up or away from your face at all times. When one first meets Teressa, she can come off a little brash and arrogant. After a while, she softens towards people, and becomes comfortable. Once she’s become comfortable around a person, she’ll drink, curse, make jokes, and become the life of the party. If she feels particularly comfortable with a person, she’ll dance for them or (if they’re special) with them.
Dreams and Goals:
Teressa dreams of one day performing for audiences in a world renowned ballet corps, an opportunity that she was robbed of when Erik Lavalais changed her biological structure by accident. She also dreams of finding someone to spend the rest of her life with, because she wants more than anything to be married. Or at least, not be single.
Strengths: She has an immense amount of physical strength, because of her prowess with dance and acrobatics. Her main strength lies in her lower body, and she uses that strength to do a lot of climbing. Teressa also has a strength with her flexibility. She was involved in contortionism for a while when she lived in Asia with Erik Lavalais. Her flexibility allows her to hide in smaller places, giving her a good advantage should she have to do some errands for Erik Lavalais, or spy on someone for her own purposes. Teressa was taught hypnotism by Erik, and she has become a near expert with it. She can weasel information out of anyone if she must. She prefers not to use this talent of hers without reason. Unfortunately for others, some of her reasons are a bit selfish and she’ll use hypnotism for her own entertainment should she get unbearably bored.
Weaknesses:
She has a weakness for compliments, and that can serve to create problems for her. If someone wants information out of her, all they really have to do is fuel her ego. Teressa has an instant pity for any woman who’s gone through a traumatic experience like hers, and she’ll do whatever she can to help said person. Her biggest weakness is for any man who reminds her of her first and (up to this point) only love, Dmitri Aparina.
Fears:
Teressa has a fear of knives. When she was nineteen, she was beaten, raped, and tortured by three men in an alleyway behind the Vienna Opera House. Their weapons of choice were knives, and no matter how much she tries to forget, Teressa can remember that night with vivid detail. Whenever someone threatens her with a knife, she breaks down and retreats into a little mental happy place. She also has a fear of being away from Erik Lavalais for too long. He’s the only person she trusts with her life, and if she feels threatened, she immediately seeks help from him. If she can’t find him, she freaks out.

The Past
Her original parents were some of the last dignitaries of France before the French Revolution, the Duke and Duchess of Lyon. Teressa had a brother and a sister: Adeline, her pretty older sister, intent on marrying a soldier; and Philippe, her younger brother with a reputation for being a ladies man and mischief maker. After she was saved and changed by Erik Lavalais, he became her adoptive father, and the only person she’s truly been close to. Her best friend is a girl she met in Persia; Akasha Karshnaz, a blind oracle with a penchant for potion making and fortune telling.
History:
Lyon, France – March 15th, 1770-1789: Teressa was born as the middle child to her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Lyon in France. She lived in luxury, and she started studying ballet at the age of five. She lived in relative comfort until 1789, when the French Revolution struck. As soon as the Revolution showed signs that it was headed for Lyon, the three children – Adeline, Teressa, and Philippe – were separated and sent to live with cousins in different countries until the Revolution was over.
Vienna, Austria – 1789-1790: Teressa was sent to live with her cousin Anna in Vienna, where she stayed hidden for the most part. Time and again, she would sneak out of the mansion to go watch the ballets at the local opera house. One evening, she stayed out longer than usual, and she was forced to walk home alone after dark. As she was passing the alleyway, she was caught by three men, who beat her, took all she had, and left her for dead. Not even two minutes after this encounter, she was picked up by Erik Lavalais, who had heard the scuffle on his way back to his flat in Vienna after watching the show at the opera house. He took her back to his flat, where he nursed her back to health with his own medicine. Unfortunately, he didn’t know that his medicine was meant only for him. His medicine is tuned only to his biological make-up, meaning that any cells it comes into contact with are immediately assimilated and changed to fit the same biological code. Teressa was changed from her normal self – 5’4”, slightly tanned and blue eyed – to the girl that is seen now – 5’11”, pale skinned and red eyed. After a few weeks, Erik and Teressa moved, and Teressa was separated from her family forever.
England – 1790-1804: Here, Teressa started her first career, choosing to utilize her sewing skills in a tailoring shop. She helped Erik find a flat in London, close to the docks where Erik worked on the boats as a sailor and fisher. After a while, Erik got mixed in with the drug trade of opiates, and Teressa tried to help him by assisting him with his work.
China – 1804-1828: Because of Erik's drug smuggling, the two moved to China. Here, Teressa learned acrobatics and martial arts, finding friends in the Chinese circus acrobats on the streets. Teressa helped Erik through his drug smuggling ordeals, eventually persuading him that they must move away from China and avoid the drugs altogether.
India – 1828-1832: They moved to India in disguise, found a flat and began street performing for money on the streets. Teressa learned belly dancing here, and Erik learned ventriloquism and magic. The two were hired on by many officials, earning credibility for their amazing performances.
Morocco – 1832-1846: They moved to Morocco after being hired by a public official who helped to run the city. He provided the two with a flat and permanent wages, and they earned some pretty good money while they were here. Teressa and Erik both became well versed in stealth, and Teressa learned how to pick pockets here.
Persia – 1846-1856: Eventually, word of the two reached the ears of the Shah of Persia. Two pale masked foreigners with such talents couldn't be wasted on anyone else. He hired them on, using Erik for his skills in illusion and architecture, and Teressa for her talents in dance. He separated the two, preferring to keep Teressa locked up in his personal harem, even though he did not hold any claim to her. She became the utter focus of the Shah, who lavished her with gifts to make sure that he'd keep her and Erik.

Persia was such a grim looking place. I mean, sure, the buildings were lavish and the gardens divine, but enter the city and there was a completely different side to it. It was utterly sickening. Watching the poor children run up to rich men, begging for something to eat, then standing by to helplessly watch them get kicked aside. I wrinkled my nose in distaste, looking at Erik riding next to me. He had a similar air about him, his just visible eyes flashing occasionally as they darted across the path of our horses. We rode up to the exquisite palace in the middle of the citadel, a shining jewel amidst the squalor. We dismounted, and Erik went off to go speak with the Shah. I decided that I would look around. If this was to be our new home, I might as well get familiar. The halls were practically gilded, and the arched doorways led from one brilliant corridor to the next, a labyrinth of beauty and eloquence beyond belief. I came across a small indoor garden, filled to the brim with exotic flowers and fountains. I sat on the edge of one fountain, a stone masterpiece with a statue of a woman in the middle. I looked around, and seeing no one, took my hair down to braid it. I hummed to myself, swaying slightly with the melody. One of Erik's, a lovely piece he wrote for the violin. After I finished with my hair, I stood. The melody was still stuck in my mind, etched in my brain. No one was around, so I began to move a little more. A sway to the right, a step to the left. Suddenly, a small arabesque lifted me off the ground, and I took flight. I twirled in midair, landing on the balls of my feet. Twisting and turning and flying, it consumed me until the song left my thoughts. As I brushed my flyaway hair out of my face, the sudden sound of quiet clapping made me nearly jump out of my skin.
