"Meg, dear, you must answer my questions or I shall never be able to even find the man. " He was astounded that there was another suitor after Christine. This was ridiculous. The Manor obviously was not a good place for them to be living, no matter what he had thought before. Then he wondered....
"Meg, do you know of a way to leave this place? If Christine and I were to leave, that would leave you with your Mr Y and keep him away from my Christine. I have not as yet discovered how to leave. Has anyone ever left? Is there any possible way? I can't bear living here with that freak of nature trying to steal my wife away and now some other man also. And yes, if this Mr Y could be made interested in you, that would also work for both of us. But it wouldn't solve the problem of Lenoir. Still, I am happy to help you in your love endeavour. So, tell me what you wish me to do."
His head clearing, he also realized that even if they were to leave the Mansion, they would be in more trouble than ever, considering that Raoul had no money at all. They were taken care of at the Mansion. Perhaps Christophe was correct, Raoul must think about working. However he had never worked a day in his life. Not a real job anyway. He had never needed one, having a noble name and huge inheritance, which he had stupidly lost. If he had a way to bring in money, perhaps he could take the family and live in the village. That would indeed be a good thing, at least he could move Christine physically away from Lenoir and this new suitor, Mr Y, and maybe have someone in the village keep an eye on her. Yes, it sounded like a good plan. And if Mr Y fell in love with Meg, all would be solved. Of course it involved a job, the very thought of which rubbed Raoul's nobility the wrong way.
Then Raoul asked if Mr Y were dangerous. She replied with another question....What kind of question is that, she said. "It's a very good, very logical question, Meg. I need to know if I should be armed when I speak to him. You know some of the people here are dangerous. I was almost killed a couple of times. I need to know more about this fellow, where he lives, for example, and what to expect. Can you describe him?"
