Every little thing the Vicomte did seemed to make Meg laugh all the more. She got the feeling he barely knew what she was talking about. She stifled cackling when the door turned against him, and couldn't resist at least giggling when he spoke to it. And he doesn't think he's drunk...
She continued to laugh to herself, though he probably didn't notice, as he tried to figure out what she'd said. "You've got everything right, Mister Vicomte!" she giggled. "But you know those fancy-schmancy motorcars make a lotta noise and they're dangerous, right?"
She wanted to begin walking to the entrance of the manor, but he seemed to need to catch his balance. "Woah there, slick," she said, using her hands on his shoulders to steady him. "You're in no condition to drive a "magical" motorcar. There are cabs, I'm sure, and if not..." she shrugged, smiling a little. "Well, then I can drive! It can't be too hard! At least for someone a bit more sober..."
She slipped her arm through his, as if he was escorting her, but she was really escorting him. "Don't worry about a thing, honey. Just follow my lead!" She began to walk with him in tow.

Meg put her arm through Raoul's and he smiled. She was a lot of fun...he wsn't quite sure why, but he knew she was. He went with her to the exit door from the manor. He tripped a bit over the wooden piece in the doorway and laughed. "They shouldn't have put that there..." he said pointing to it. "It's surely in the way..."
Then they walked out into the garden. "You say motorcars are noisy and dangerous...I'm all for that! I need a little danger in my life! " The Vicomte's face lit up with the thought of a bit of excitement.
"Oh and Meg," said Raoul, "I really like it when you call me honey...you can call me that any time you like." Raoul wished his wife was funny like Meg was. Meg raised his spirits and it felt good to be with her. Christine...well, Raoul loved her of course, but it wasn't like at first, when they had fled the Phantom's lair, the flush of young love and marriage. Then things had fallen apart. Raoul still blamed the Phantom. In some way it seemed as if he were still in her head, calling her back to him. As the Vicomte recalled those thoughts, he suddenly became quite melancholy and he frowned. Perhaps Christine would be different here...he wanted to find her....they could start a new life...
Then Raoul glanced over at Meg and smiled. Of course if he couldn't find Christine at the moment, then that better thing did he have to do but go somewhere with Meg. Why not? She seemed like so much fun...

"Oh and Meg," said Raoul, "I really like it when you call me honey...you can call me that any time you like."
Meg had to stop walking, and she stilled the Vicomte with her arms. Suddenly she realized that things might be going a bit too far. Knowing the Vicomte, habitual drinker, gambler, and hardass that he was, he might just be getting the wrong idea about her. If he wasn't, other people could certainly get the wrong idea about them.
Was she opposed to this? She didn't know... Normally she wouldn't care whether a man's married, deaf, blind, young, old, thin, or stout, so long as he wasn't impotent! But this was Raoul, formerly a man she was wary of. Now he was her best friend's husband... Did she care?
"Oh, I call everyone honey, honey!" she said with a small laugh. She wasn't sure what was going on, but she needed time to process it. "Here now, why don't we sit down here in the garden?" She suggested. "I think the motorcar and the updo can wait for a bit. Let's talk."
She sat them both down on a bench by the fountain, unlooping her arm from his. "Just how bad is your relationship with Christine, anyway? Is... there anything I can do to help you, honey?"
((OOC: So I was thinking maybe we could have something going on between these two, considering how this thread is going. It would be hilarious if Meg finally figured out that her flirting with Raoul just made Christine even more destined to fly into her Mister Y's arms. xD Or it could work out between them. It would be REALLY bad if she fell for him and she found out about his thing with Giselle! xD What do you think?))

Just how bad is your relationship with Christine, anyway? Is... there anything I can do to help you, honey? said Meg. Raoul gave her a serious look. "Everything would be just fine if it weren't for that bastard Phantom! He's put himself into her mind somehow and ruined our marriage. I suppose that doesn't make any sense to you. It barely makes sense to me. But since our marriage, she's not been the same person. "
Raoul lookes sad and bewildered. "I have these dreams...dreams where he comes and spirits her away. Sometimes she is on the settee and he comes, kneels at her side and covers her with kisses. Then she awakens happily and kisses him back. Good lord! I can hardly stand the thought of it! Then he picks her up and carries her off somewhere, probably to his despicable hole of a place, that lair." Raoul, his emotions loosened by the drink, was unravelling. He looked as if he were going to weep, but he didn't. "Every night it's the same, just variations on the same theme. But the worst is, not the dreams, but when I have asked Christine if she cares for him or ever had cared for him, she denies it, but her eyes tell a different story. She is constantly sad and I am tired of that!" Raoul was quiet for a moment. Then he spoke softly. "Sometimes, if I drink enough, I don't dream and that's a good thing."
"I still love Christine...and maybe when she comes here it will be a different story...perhaps she will forget ahout the bloody bastard." Raoul 's head sank a bit and he put his hand to his forehead."But I don't know if she loves me ... or if she ever did..."
//OOC: I agree...we could have a little something go on with Eddy and Meg and then of course Giselle. I don't want it to go more than flirting and a little kissing and hugging tho, and maybe a little dating or walking somewhere behind her back...because Eddy still really does love Christine. But his little flirting could cause him some more trouble...I like it!//

She folded her hands in her lap as he spoke, staring at her shoes down in front of her. "It makes perfect sense to me, Mister Vicomte..." she said softly. Her ears twitched every time he spoke ill of Mister Y, however what else was she to expect? Roaring praise? Certainly not from de Chagny, who's hated him from the moment he set eyes on him. She remembered the screaming, and the cries for help as she traveled down, down to the lair, leading the mob in order to rescue Christine. Erik... as she now understood his name was... had tried to make Christine choose, and she remembered that she had indeed initially chose him. That's enough to make any man hate another. "I understand perfectly..."
Not that she was going to ever like it. She desperately didn't want to like Raoul, but he did remind her of herself, in a way... Both of them pining for people who love not them, but each other... She knew how excruciating it was to watch the person you love dance around the same old theme of unrequited love. Everyone she knew seemed to have it, including herself.
"But I don't know if she loves me ... or if she ever did..."
Meg turned and looked at him, tilting her head and smiling sadly. "Oh, don't say that... Of course she loves you. She always has. It wasn't her fault that someone came into her life that made her question it." 'Not her fault indeed,' she thought. She smirked, reaching up and taking the Vicomte's hand from his face, resting it on his leg and patting it with her other. "We all do great things for love, even if that love is not always returned. But in time, if you love her as you do now, she'll see it. I know she will, because I've known her much longer than you have. She's like my sister, and if I know women, they have hearts deeper than you can imagine. Can you not see that she is merely confused and alone? If you'd just talk to her..."
She stopped. She realized she wasn't getting anywhere with this, especially since she hardly wanted him finding more reasons to hate Mister Y. She was making him out to be the bad guy, but in effect he was... Just not an entirely bad guy.
But neither was the Vicomte. He didn't deserve this, the poor man. He was just as lost and alone as she said Christine was... as Meg was too. As Mister Y was, as all of them were. Every person she'd met at the manor was lost and alone. She wished she could do something about it. She sighed, but giggled. "Oh... drat! I'm babbling again! Don't... don't listen to me, I don't know what I'm talking about!" she slipped her hand out of his and touched her forehead. Her lips drifted apart and frowned, and she huffed a sad laugh. "I'm not the best person to be giving advice on relationships. The only person I've been in love with hardly loves me back... What help can I possibly be?"
She began to wring her hands on her lap. "Just know Christine loves you, that's all. She'd... she'd be a fool not to." Meg bit her lip and looked away.

"Perhaps then we have something in common. I mean unrequited love. Well, Christine, as you say, probably does love me, although I doubt she does when she is around that bastard. How she could even touch her beautiful lips to his distorted ugly ones, I don't know. But worse, his soul is as black as night. Considering the murders he committed at the opera house...who knows how many more in the ten years since I had seen him last. I can only think that he has become worse. Funny, he hasn't seemed to age, though."
Raoul took Meg's hand unexpectedly. " I would enjoy a long walk with you, now and again. Perhaps more now than again." He laughed. "Perhaps more often than not." He laughed again. "So where would you like to go? Have you ever been to the village? It's a lovely place, though, I must warn you, there are strange things happening there. The automobiles will run you down they go so fast. You must be very careful."
Raoul was still affected by the drink and his thoughts were a bit rambling.
"You say you are Christine's best friend? Very good. Then you can find out for me if she really still loves me. Women can speak of things with each other that men could never ask. Or if they did of course they would not receive a straight answer."
"Oh and by the way, this fellow who does not return your love...is it anyone I know? If it is, perhaps I can give him a good talking to and tell him what a wonderful person you are and how he is wasting time not courting you..."

Meg's mind was spinning a mile a minute. Her conflicting feelings were too much to process. On the one hand, the Vicomte hated Erik so much that he would likely kill him given the chance (which Meg couldn't let happen). On the other, he was nothing more than a broken man in love who couldn't stop drinking. They really were similar people... Almost too similar...
She tried to defend Mister Y without letting on her real feelings. "I don't know... He may be ugly and a murderer, but he was a talented composer from what I remember... It's the music, monsieur. They connect on a musical level, but that doesn't mean she doesn't love you."
Meg looked down when the man took her hand and gulped. She laughed nervously. "Remember, honey? we were going to go to the village... but I think that adventure might have to wait for a while." She patted the hand that held hers and smiled.
When he asked about Christine, her ears pricked up. Yes, she could use this to her advantage. He still trusted her, as did Christine. She had to get them back together so that Madame de Chagny would leave Mister Y alone... but leading the Vicomte on wasn't the way to do it. If anything Christine would fly into Erik's arms all the more.
She slid her hand out of his. "Of course I can. I'd be happy to help!"
Meg looked out in front of her, propping her elbows onto her knees and her chin on her knuckles. She sighed at his question. "Oh, you know him... but I doubt you could help. I doubt that you'd want to help..." He'd think her crazy for loving a "monster."
Unless...
"Unless... That is unless you would." She turned toward him and smiled wide.
((OoC: so I was thinking that Meg would tell him that she was in love with Mister Y, and they could concoct a plot to get Mister Y to fall for her (though it prolly wouldn't work) so that Raoul gets Christine back. Do you think he'd go for that, or would this not end well for her? Either way, I'm sticking with this! xD))

Raoul listened as Meg explained that Erik was a talented composer and the music was the connection between Christine and Erik. He frowned, thinking. "Yes, but that doesn't explain my dreams, nightmares really. The bastard comes into her bedroom and kisses her, then spirits her away. It's the same all the time, whenever I have the dream. Only details are different, but the outcome is always the same. He kidnaps her and Gustave and I are left alone." He looked at Meg and smiled. "I suppose you think it's just a bad reoccuring dream, but I think it's more. I think it's real." He looked very sad. "If only there were some way I could influence Christine to put her attention back to me. For much of our marriage, I suspect she has been pining over that old ugly fellow. I can't imagine why. You say the music. Maybe so. But I think there is more to it than that."
Meg patted his hand and suggested that they put off going to the village. "Of course; whenever it is convenient for you..."
Meg then said she would be happy to speak to Christine. Raoul to0k her hand and squeezed it gently. He smiled and looked genuinely happy. "You are such a good friend. I appreciate this so much! I know that Chirstine will listen to you..."
Meg was being a bit mysterious about the fellow with whom she seemed to be in love with, but who loved her not. Raoul smiled. He touched her gently under her chin and pulled it up a bit. "Come now, don't keep a secret. Tell me who he is..."

Meg couldn't help being a little uncomfortable when Raoul took her chin in his drunken hand, especially considering his words. She'd been in the position before, where a man had the full ability to control her every move and she could do nothing about it... But the Vicomte would do no such thing, as he wasn't even thinking clearly. The real question was, could she trust de Chagny, who was essentially her enemy? Would he help her?
"You say you want to know now, but when you do, you'll wish you hadn't asked, monsieur." She pulled away from his grasp, but did not turn her head. "The revelation may shock you... You won't see me in the same way afterward." Now her eyes drifted down, distant, as if she could conjure Mister Y there and ask for his advice. Raoul did not know Erik as she did. He had not struggled through ten long years of hard work and dedication with the two of them. They were each other's only reminder of what was lost, as her mother had become something she hardly recognized over the course of their stay on Coney Island.
She wrung her hands in nervous worry, terrified that Raoul wouldn't help her capture Mister Y's favor and know her secret at the same time. He would have an advantage over, her, and Meg just had to have the upper-hand, no matter what the cost.
"If you will keep my secret, I will tell you. I'd like you to help me, and I think that if you do you may just turn things in your favor..." She looked at him dead in the eye, desperately trying to convey the importance of her confession.
"Do you promise, Monsieur le Vicomte?"

Meg was evasive in her answers to Raoul's questions. In fact she was not forthcoming at all. She pulled her hand from his grasp. She said that he would be sorry if he told her the truth. Edouard frowned. Who could it be that he would be sorry to find out that Meg loved this person...then he suddenly had a flash of insight. He smiled. "Oh, I understand now...I know who it is."
Raoul took Meg's hand again. "It's someone I would least suspect you being in love with. And someone you have pined over all these years. Someone who was unable to return your affections because perhaps he didn't know about them. Perhaps you never came out and spoke them honestly because there was aa chasm between you and your beloved...a chasm of many miles...and another woman standing in your way..."
Raoul smiled kindly at Meg and squeezed her hand. "It's me, isn't it, whom you have loved all these years. Only Christine stands in your way." He paused. "I love Christine, but frankly, since she's not here yet and perhaps never will be....you can confess your love of me, it's all right."

Meg was surprised when he announced he thought he knew her mystery love. He did not look appalled, so he was probably wrong. At each of his questions, though, she nodded yes, herself surprised at his insight. Mister Y always did seem so many miles away, high above her in his luxurious penthouse when she was alone on the streets, sinking into the sea.
"Yes..." she whispered shyly when he mentioned another woman. She was always in the way... Christine was both the rose in bloom and the thorn in her side; her sister in bond and her likened enemy. She would never speak of her jealousy to her, and yet she could not truly love her as she once had when she cast such a spell over Mister Y's eyes.
When she heard the Vicomte's next words, her eyes widened with shock. "You?!" she said. "Will you not fight to stay with your wife, monsieur?" She whipped her hand from his grasp. "Are you so easily lead astray that you would automatically think you're the object of my affections, or is that just your overwhelming ego? Honey, you've got another thing coming if you think I'd fall for a married man!"
Oh, but he was so cute when he was drunk. She couldn't be this vindictive of him, even though that ego of his was so prominent. "Hmm... Tell you what," she began, crossing her arms and tilting her head. "I think now you might be happy about who it really is, so if you promise, if you give your word on your honor as a Vicomte to help me win this man's love, your problems will be solved, and your conscious will be clear. How about it?
She held out her hand to shake for the deal, but she couldn't help feeling that the devil was watching their bargain...

Raoul was surprised when Meg said that her unknown lover was not himself. She had hinted about it and he was certain that all signs pointed to him. Then she looked shocked at the thought when he told her what he thought. She pulled her hand away and seemed amazed that he would think she would fall for a married man! She even accused him of having an overwhelming ego! He frowned and then looked at her with all sincerety. "You think I have a big ego? Apparently you've never met Erik Lenoir."
Then Meg seemed as if she would perhaps tell him who this mysterious person really was. Raoul felt a bit let down when she said it was not he. He really had thought Meg was attracted to him. And it didn't mean he would leave Christine or any such thing. Why, he hadn't even found Christine here at the mansion yet. Who knows when or even if she would show up. It was even a possibility that Christine would never show up. In that case he was probably not married anymore. Or at leasst it seemed at the moment.
Raoul was a bit put off with Meg and her reaction to his thoughts that she might have a secret liking for him. But then she proposed a little bargain. She would tell him who the mysterious man was if he would promise to help him win this man's love. Raoul frowned again. "I don't know who it is. How do I know I would even be able to speak with him about that?" Then he paused. "Oh, bloody hell, why not? All right I promise. And a Vicomte never goes back on his promises. At least this one doesn't." He paused again. "So what do you want me to do? Surely just going up to some strange man and telling him that a pretty little dancer has her eye on him...that might do it. If it were someone telling such a thing to me, it would make me tingle with anticipation to find out who the mysterious woman was..." He stopped talking."Is it someone I know?"
Meg held out her hand to confirm the bargain, but she had a strange look in her eye, as if she didn't really want to do this. He wasn't quite able to make sense of in his brain, muddled as it was in alcohol.
Then he became a bit more positive and grabbed her hand, shaking it heartily. "Yes, Meg Giry, my dear, I will be happy to help you in your quest for love. Give me the fellow's name and I shall be off to do a bit of matchmaking." Now Raoul had a wide smile on his face. It might be fun, getting two love birds together...

When Monsieur de Changy mentioned Lenoir she internally rolled her eyes. Yes, indeed Monsieur Lenoir had a rather large problem with his ego. She wondered if she could even begin to explain her love for Mister Y when Lenoir's image clouded de Chagny's memory?
She waited patiently as his muddled little boozy brain tried to figure out how to answer (it was rather cute, watching him thinking too hard). When he asked if it was someone he knew, she smiled keenly. "Possibly. All you have to do is promise to help me, and you'll find out!"
And then he did so! She knew he'd do it. He liked her, that much was certain from the last time they'd met on Suicide Hall... Though she didn't think this Raoul had progressed that far in his timeline just yet. They shook hands vigorously, and the drunken fool seemed quite up to the challenge. She laughed. "Oh, Monsieur, I don't think it's going to be as simple as telling him I'm in love with him. Lord knows I've tried that..." she sighed.
"You'll be shocked, I'm sure, in fact maybe even appalled, because you do know the man... In fact you may consider him to be your worst enemy... But he's changed in the past ten years, I'm telling you! He's a new man, though I don't think she'll ever understand him." She turned toward him, taking his hands again, but this time more firmly. "Just hear me out..."
There were butterflies in her stomach, dancing the can-can. "You see, the man I love is none other than..." she gulped, suddenly wishing she hadn't done this... de Changy wouldn't understand! ... But he was drunk. Perhaps he might not even remember in the morning.
"Him!"
The woman gave him the 'look' that even he would understand when he's drunk. She bit her lip with something resembling a smile, and a shrug of her shoulders. "I know, I know. You're shocked, like I said. Head over heels for him, really... But he doesn't even know I exist sometimes, even though I know he at least thinks of me like a friend... Though don't misunderstand, Monsieur, I'm not speaking of the Lenoir you know of your past. He's a different man, like I said. Mister Y, he owns Phantasma, in fact all of Coney owes it's success to him. All of my success, in fact..."
Meg let go of his hands and crossed her arms. "Of course you know who the other woman is then. And so you must know that it would be a miracle for him to at least notice me!" She began to twirl a strand of her hair again. "I told you it wouldn't be as easy as one-two-three. I was thinking more along the lines of an actual plan... something to get his head out of the clouds where he only thinks of your wife, and more down to earth where he could at least explore the possibility of being with me."
She turned her head and smiled at him with a small laugh. "It would certainly get you what you want: him out of Christine's life forever."

Raoul had agreed to help Meg in finding love with the man she was in love with. It appeared it was not whom he had thought. First he had thought it himself, but she said it was not. Then Meg told him it was Mr Y, the owner and genius behind Phantasma on Coney Island, the place where he and his family had gone, just before he had arrived at the mansion. This was interesting. But then she said this mysterious Mr Y was in love with his wife Christine! Raoul looked shocked. "What? I brought Christine to Phantasma to sing in the show...to resume her musical career...but how could he have fallen in love with her? She hadn't even had time to meet him...or had she?
"I don't understand. It's Lenoir who is after Christine. I have caught them numerous times together, kissing and hugging. I've been haunted for years with the nightmares of the Phantom coming to her at night and whisking her away, with her acquiescing and happy with all of it. So who is this Mr Y and how did she meet him?"
The alcohol was beginning to wear off and the shock of what she had said brought back a modicum of sobriety to Raoul. "Of course I shall help you. Especially if it concerns my wife. So now she has two suitors? Mr Y and Lenoir? How can this be/ Did she not choose me? Did not Lenoir even let us go at that time and tell us to leave him?"
Raoul nodded and said, "Of course I shall help you. I have enough trouble with Lenoir. I don't need another man after Christine." Then he asked, not knowing that Mr Y was a Phantom, "How shall I know this man? What does he look like and does he live in one of the suites here? Has he come recently?" As his senses were returning to him, Raoul's questions came faster and quicker. "And is he dangerous?"

Meg's lips pressed into a line as he began to respond to her. She knew this was too good to be true. Like she knew of his character he became defensive. She shouldn't clarify. It would just make things more difficult, and she was already making a mess of things as it was. She opened her mouth to say she made a mistake, but it occurred to her as Raoul kept bringing up Lenoir that he believed him and Mister Y were not the same people. Would this work in her favor, or...?
When she repeated his line of assistance, the poor forgetting what he said he was drunk enough, she patted him on the arm and gave a ceremonial sigh of relief. The truth was, she was not at ease. "Thank you, honey, but I--" she began, but he fired question after question to her, as was his way. The nobility in him always needs to know everything. She threw her hands in the air. "Details, details!" she laughed, but it was uneasy. "Honestly sweetcheeks, let me catch my breath before you ask another question!"
Then he asked if he was dangerous. Meg's eyes narrowed. De Chagny would ask that, wouldn't he? She had half a mind to get him drunk again, but lot of good that would do her. She abruptly laughed, more like cackled, touching her thin small fingers to her mouth and turning away in a flirtatious way. "Dangerous! What kind of question is that?!" She really wanted to just get out of here. He'd never listen to her if he really knew who she was after...
