It was a quiet day at the manor. Not many seemed to be about the place , at least the Erik could see. He had come from his lair after a lovely night of composing, but having finished the piece, felt both fulfilled and bored at the same time, now that the creativity was over for the time being. So what od do next? He had noticed a few months ago, a long case clock that was just not right. The time was always a bit off no matter how many times it was set and the chimes were wrong, giving a number that did not agree with the correct time.
Erik suspected someone had been playing with the clock too, someone who didn't have any idea what they were doing. Mechanical clocks were delicate, precision instruments, not to be played with vainly. So he brought his set of clock tools when he had risen from the lair to the main floor. He entered the sitting room in question. Yes, there was the clock. It was busy now, chiming thirteen. Erik shook his head and opened the door after it had finished it's chime and stopped the pendulum. He removed the weights and set them carefully on the floor. He just started to remove the screws to remove the face and reveal the movement when he heard something behind him, as if someone had pushed open a door. He ignored it and pushed the heavy curtains aside to give a bit more light.
