Basic Information
Age: 32
Canon or OC?: A villager OC
[/ul]
Appearance
Body type: He's not overly thin, but more slender due to his considerable lack of sleep and vivid hallucinations almost nightly. His shoulders are often tensed and hunched, always anticipating something to jump out and attack him. He walks with a very cautious gait, as if his very life depended upon each and every carefully calculated step. He often stumbles, though, and scrambles wildly to regain his footing should he trip and fall.
Eye color: Sickly green with specks of golden-brown. They retains a bit of his sparkling cheer though they have dulled considerably since his going to Castle Brennenburg. Those eyes dimmed to that dull yellowish green and will never return to their original color.
Wardrobe: Being a man of simple tastes and deeply interested in science, he wears a plain white cotton shirt, a finely stitched brown button-up vest, a heavy trench coat, and brown trousers stuffed into short black boots. When focusing on science, he does away with his coat and dons an apron similar to one a butcher would wear, rolling up his sleeves so as not to accidentally singe his clothing.
General Appearance: Daniel is fairly good-looking in the face with well groomed, tawny hair though his sideburns have greyed and there are sparse strands of grey hairs throughout his locks due to the tremendous stress he has been under for so long. He has a long finely sloped nose and strong jawline. His eyes are often ringed with dark circles and slightly sunken in cheekbones. He has deep nasal labial folds though he barely smiles. His psyche is far too broken to allow himself to smile anymore.

Personality
Amnesia (æmˈniːzjə, -ʒjə, -zɪə) (noun):
a defect in memory, esp one resulting from pathological cause, such as brain damage or hysteria.
Daniel Turner from Westminster, England, used to live a normal life, free of troubling visions and waking nightmares. He lived a relatively simple life, dedicating himself to science and learning all he could about the world's mysteries that religion could not dispel. He met a man named Herbert and the two quickly became friends, both sharing a common interest in science. They pour over theories about another world and the possibly of supernatural objects to bring otherworldly creatures to and from our world.
In youth, his father was a cruel artisan who beat Daniel whenever drunk. He endured this abuse for years until he finally went off to college. Daniel studied medical as well as archeological science before graduating and living on his own, away from his father and the beatings. He settled down in a small house in Mayfair…. Or so he thought.
Daniel ran into an old childhood friend who invited him on an expedition. The two are soon flying to Africa and Daniel falls through a crumbling portion of an old ruined temple they were sent out to explore. There he finds an orb and brings it with him back to Mayfair after the expedition is over. But when he brought the orb to his home, everything began to go downhill.
Nothing happened at first, but a few years after, things suddenly changed. The orb was weighing heavily on his mind, consuming his every thoughts. He began to hallucinate and suffer from insomnia because of said hallucinations. They were violent and terrifying, as if he were being hunted by something. And that something was what had begun to take the lives of the people with whom he accompanied to the expedition to the temple. But luckily for Daniel, there was a small glimmer of hope for him.
Daniel tried to turn to his friend but found that something terrible happened to him as well as the others who had gone on the expedition. He began to wonder if the orb had something to do with it. It had, in fact, and that very thing was causing his delusions and paranoia. Somehow word had gotten to Prussia of his monumental discovery and the baron of an established estate, Castle Brennenburg, contacted Daniel and explained that he could help him be rid of his troubles as well as the orb.
He is often plagued by those horrific visions and they can tend to make him lash out without forethought. He suffers from living nightmares, as if something were dogging his every step. His hair has begun to grey and the once vibrant and warm skin of his face began to dull and pale from being wracked with guilt.
He is still haunted by the memories of what happened after setting out to find a way to rid himself of the troubling experiences… And he did.
Dreams and Goals: Daniel dreams of making a name for himself as an archeologist and to possibly get married and have children.
Strengths: He has an extensive knowledge on 17th century medicine and archeology, as well as puzzles. He greatly loves to solve elaborate puzzles to keep his mind sharp and focused. He pours over books and articles relevant to his career topics and lavishes in their contents. Another strength is that he still has a semblance of humanity after what he has seen and witnessed at the Prussian castle.
Weaknesses: His mental stability was broken by the horrors he had seen in Castle Brennenburg, he is prone to violent- and almost psychotic- outbursts, and he is a murderer. Well, reformed murderer.
Fears: Daniel fears dying alone after the major trauma he has undergone. But he is even more afraid that the thing that was hunting him may very well return. He knows that he had rid himself of the orb but not all is right with him still.

The Past
Rose Turner (mother)
History:
THE PAST: England, 1839.
Born in 1807, Daniel grew up in both a loving and yet very damaged household. Daniel had a loving mother but a cruel father. His father, Harry Turner, was a has-been artisan who couldn't hold down a job and would often drink and torment his own son. His mother, Rose Turner, put up with her husband drunken sorry-self before divorcing him. She left Daniel with his father because she couldn't make enough money to sustain them both.
Daniel suffered from years of abuse at the hands of his father, both physical and psychological, which could account for a portion of why his psyche is so fragile. He took up a small job as an artifact labeler at a local museum. It was then that he discovered he had a love for archeology. He dived deep into the world of ancient ruins and artifacts and never came back up for air. He had finally found something that brought a bit of light to his dark life.
For years, Daniel studied archeology and medicine before saving up enough money to attend a university. While studying, he met a fellow science lover named Herbert Reinhardt. They two shared a deep, mutual interest in archeology and would often share their knowledge with each other while studying for exams. Daniel graduated within a year of attending, just a few weeks before Herbert earned his doctorate. Finally, after everything he had been through, Daniel felt a freeing weight lift from his shoulders. It had dawned on him that he was free from his father, free from the mental abuse he had suffered; now he could move on with his life, buy a small flat, and focus on his one true love: science!
One day, Herbert invited Daniel to join him on an expedition to an ancient tomb in Africa for excavation. Upon arriving at the tomb and beginning the investigation, Daniel fell down a large hidden shaft and found himself in what seemed to have been a sealed off area of the tomb with even more rubble sealing him within the chamber. With no way out, Daniel was forced to explore this new area of the tomb. Upon closer inspection, he came across a strange, glowing orb in the middle of the enclosure. He took it with him just as some of the Arab workers finished breaking through the cave-in and pulled Daniel out from his would-have-been grave, along with the orb.
Daniel settled back down in his flat in Mayfair once more and started pouring over articles and getting in touch with professors and historians to gather some information about the Orb's history. Unfortunately, no on is able to enlighten him as to the origin and element from with the Orb was created. A year goes by and not much happened in his now once more normal and relaxed life. Then suddenly, Daniel started to suffer from sweat-drenching nightmares and bouts of insomnia. It isn't until he started getting calls from acquaintances that the scholars with whom Daniel had come in contact with about the Orb had died gruesome deaths at the hands of a dangerous, unearthly entity called the "Shadow"! This is deeply troubling to him and he desperately began seeking out help to combat this living hell he was experiencing.
He soon received a letter from a distinguished Prussian baron who promised a way to relieve Daniel's suffering and protect him from the Shadow. Desperate and willing to be rid of this horror, he traveled to Castle Brennenburg and was gracious met by baron and inventor Alexander. Unaware the the Shadow had dogged his footsteps all the way to the castle doors, Daniel was given a tour of the baron's home. It wasn't until he had settled in and gotten situated in the castle when Alexander explains how to banish the Shadow.
But as with all promises of freedom, there is also a price to be paid. And Daniel is more than willing to pay it. (CLICHÈ, I know! XD )
Alexander employed Daniel as his personal torturer and harvester of a substance called "vitae" which can only be obtained from the blood of agonized humans. Within Castle Brennenburg, Aexander kept a row of cells deep below his home where he kept prisoners for this very purpose. He procured these so called prisoners by first poisoning the wine in his cellar and letting his servants imbibe until they either died or became monstrous beings that the baron used to capture people from a small village near the castle to use for his "vitae" harvesting.
With the blood-like substance, he would be able to open a portal that could banish the Shadow. But what Daniel didn't know was that Alexander was in fact an other-worldly being trying to get back to his own world and cared not if The Shadow took Daniel's life.
The mental toll this took on Daniel was immense. Having to cut up innocent men, women, and children, then feed them an Amnesia potion which makes the victim forget the pain and suffering thy initially endured for a second round of cuttings, became too much for him to bear. He tried to justify his actions by telling himself he was keeping the world clean. But it wasn't until he was forced to kill a little girl who tried to escape from the prisons. This dreadful act was Daniel's breaking point. By the time he had this revelation, it was too late. The damage was done, but he could still stop Alexander from entering the portal. He descended into a secret part of the castle called the Inner Sanctum where Alexander created a Gate to take him back to his home world. Furious and betrayed, Daniel destroyed the Gate and scrambled to find a way to escape. He remembered some of Alexander's inventions and that he was crafting a strange box that was said to travel through time. In a pure state of panic, Daneil rushed into the time machine and pressed buttons, only to be thrown forward in time to the 21st century, 2013.
PRESENT DAY:
He managed to find his way back to England, with quite a bit of shock by all the strange, modern people. Everything was strange and unusual to him. He began to grow nostalgic for the past but was determined to make the most of this lost years. He still had plenty of money and managed to purchase a room at a small motel. By the time he got back, Daniel had been significantly scarred, both emotionally and mentally. He would never be the same again…
The nightmares and guilt were eating away at Daniel. He began to suffer from insomnia and became overly paranoid and would lash out at friends so it kept him very isolated. He thought that the Shadow had left him for good, but there was still a bit of residue from the traumatizing experience. He started to have vivid hallucinations where he thought he was still seeing and hearing Alexander as well as the Shadow. But he had banished it, hadn't he?! The nightmares got worse and worse over time until he was forced to lave him home and find somewhere else to settle.
After saying goodbye to Mayfair, Daniel found a small village on the outskirts of England's rolling landscape where he now resides. He hears that there is a very old and haunted manor on a hill just above the village. Perhaps he can investigate it to see if the rumors are true. But what he doesn't know is that there are darker forces at work within the manor, things worse than Alexander and the Shadow. What he doesn't know is that the manor is haunted by non other than the Devil.
While in the village, Daniel hopes to speak with some of the villagers and even the residents of the manor to find out more about the ongoings in the house. He would love to see if he could speak with the owner of the place and ask about the history behind it as well as possibly explore its walls. But will he go too far and regret what he finds?

His hands shook as he struggled to open the small lantern in his hands. He fumbled frantically for the bottle of oil to help light his way. The sounds of the monster's growling brought him such terror that he feared his heart would pound its way out of his chest. Sweat began to drip down his forehead as his eyes darted about in search of where that terrifying noise had came from. "Please," He hissed in a whimper-like whisper, turning his attention back to the nearly extinguished lamp. "Please light."
"I hear your breathing, Daniel. Do you hear me? Have you changed your mind?"
Daniel's shaking breaths came in hyperventilating gasps as the roaring sound drew closer as he scrambled to his feet, wiping away the sweat from his brow. There came a terrible crashing sound as the monstrously deformed servants began breaking down the door between themselves and the terrified man. Daniel jumped and looked around the room, his breathing accelerating.
"C-Changed my mind about what, Alexander?" He spat, finally uncorking the bottle of oil and pouring it into the lamp. The flame roared back to life just as the door splintered apart. The pieces of wood showered the floor in jagged particles. "Th-The fact that you manipulated me into thinking those people were soulless beings, that they cared not if I killed them? Then you are wrong! I will never think differently now that my eyes have been opened."
GROOOOOOOAAAR!!!! The unholy creature lumbered into the room, hissing and grunting oddly. Its face was split open, the lower jaw flopping against its chest; hands bandaged and one deformed and fitted with razor sharp claws, the kind Alexander would require should any of the prisoners escape. Daniel quickly lowered the flame and covered his mouth, ducking down beneath a small table. He was not going to let this creature find him and possibly imprison- or worse- kill him! The monster sniffed around and moved to an opposite corner of the room. Daniel coiled, ready to sprint for his life.
"You won't get away with this, Alexander," He whispered. "Not while I still have breath to draw and a score to settle with you!"
With a sudden burst of energy, Daniel burst from his hiding spot and bolted for the door. The creature barely had enough time to turn around when the door was fir my shut behind him. The only thing the archeologist could think of was getting the hell out of this madhouse! Why was he being punished for wanting to dug up an ancient tomb? For coming across an artifact that he might have gotten rich off of? All this flashed through Daniel's mind as he sped down twisting and turning corridors before throwing himself into the small elevator and jerking the lever.
"Daniel! Turn around this instant. You are carrying the Shadow with you!"
"Believe me, Alexander," Daniel panted, trying to catch his breath from that break-neck sprint he just endured. "I am carrying the Shadow and I will bring it your Inner Sanctum and send both it and yourself back to Hell where you belong! I promise you that!"
