Hello class. Take your seats. Comfy? GOOD, because we have a LOT to discuss.
SO, kiddies, apparently a few lessons on politeness and etiquette are in order, considering the observations of our staff. Therefore, it is now my sad duty to inform you that the politeness levels have reached all-time lows, and we, as a FAMILY, must raise those levels. So in order to keep order, this lesson has to be read and spread.
So, to be frank, politeness to others is addressed in the FIRST TWO RULES of the site. They are as follows:
1. Leave drama at the door (or in pms, if you prefer).
2. Respect admins, guests, and other members AT ALL TIMES.
According to THESE rules, respect must be given in every situation, by all parties. Thus, arguments are not allowed, unless through the medium of Private Messaging. Unfortunately this means that we, as staff, must crack down on disrespectful argumentation and take appropriate measures on all responsible parties. I’m sorry to say it, but it’s a fact that we must face.
Next topic of discussion is the chat box. Now I understand that the chat box is a place for us to talk, have fun, and discuss topics relevant to the things that we are interested in. However, this does not mean that you can override the chat box with plots for any thread whatsoever. It is a RULE – and frankly, one rule I think should be placed at a higher station – that there shall be no plotting in the chat box. I.E. :
12. Please keep plotting in threads or IM, don’t flood the cbox.
The basic message of this rule is to only discuss relevant topics in the chat box. That does NOT mean that you are allowed to flood the chat box with a discussion of your thread, of another’s thread, of your opinion on another’s thread, or any some-such nonsense.
Another point of interest in the chat box is the sharing of jpegs, gifs, links, and videos. You are allowed to share them, certainly. It’s not a bad thing, and a lot of the aforementioned are funny and good icebreakers. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN SPAM OTHERS WITH SAID THINGS. While jpegs and gifs are nice, and people generally like them, the chat box is generally only used for that: CHATTING. So, please, don’t post one gif after the other after the other after the other. It’s not only rude, but it can interrupt others who are trying to chat on the site. We as staff agree that the chat box is useful to anonymous people looking to join our site, so we want to keep the chat clean for any who want to ask questions!
And here’s now to the grit of the lecture.
Because of recent happenings, I believe it is for the best that any opinions stated should be discussed no further than an explanation of said opinion, unless all parties are in agreement. THEN – AND ONLY THEN – can a HEALTHY DISCUSSION be pursued. By healthy discussion, I don’t mean a statement of opinions creating more disagreement. I mean a good, honest, healthy discussion of said topic of interest, considering all opinions and then giving the topic a good amount of thought that leaves all parties STILL IN AGREEMENT.
As a reminder, all members of Phantom Manor are subjected to the Three Strike Rule:
1. First Strike – You shall be talked to by an administrator, your opinion shall be considered, and then you shall be allowed to continue working on the site, with no immediate action. However, your actions shall be weighed by staff members. Then they shall be discussed and more than likely, there shall be appropriate preventative reactions set up to ensure that problems of similar nature do not arise.
2. Second Strike – You shall be talked to by an administrator, your opinion shall be considered, and then you shall be banned from the site for a total of three days. Your actions will be weighed by staff members, discussed, and the appropriate preventative measures shall be taken.
3. Third Strike – You will be banned from Phantom Manor altogether, your character(s) erased, any canon characters you had will be opened up for others to take, and any threads you are in shall be archived immediately. Another lecture discussing the importance of following the rules shall be posted, along with more reminders that we are a community that shall function under the direction of leaders.
Now, this lecture is not being posted as a retaliation to the banning of anyone, this is just a reminder from me to you.
So, in synopsis, this lecture discussed a few important topics.
BE POLITE TO EVERYONE IN ANY DISCUSSIONS HAD ON THIS SITE. OTHERWISE, TAKE ANY ARGUMENTS TO PRIVATE MESSAGE OR PRIVATE CHAT.
DO NOT PLOT IN THE CHAT BOX.
DO NOT FLOOD THE CHAT BOX WITH UNNECESSARY ITEMS.
ARGUMENTS ON THE CHAT BOX, FROM THIS POINT FORWARD, SHALL BE HANDLED IN THE SAME WAY AS DISRESPECT UNLESS SAID ARGUMENTS ARE TREATED LIKE A RHETORIC-PRACTICING DEBATE.
EVERYONE, INCLUDING STAFF, IS SUBJECT TO THE THREE STRIKE RULE.
Now, I’d like to remind everyone that I’m just trying to save you all from unnecessary trouble. I love each and every one of you like you were my own family. And therefore, feeling myself likened as a matriarch of this family, I felt the need to discuss with you all the importance of etiquette here within the Manor, and the importance of keeping drama to an ultimate low.
CLASS DISMISSED.
