Erik frowned. She didn't believe that he was capable of doing something ghastly to her? He almost had! But he wasn't going to admit as much to her. She was seated in the throne. Why she wanted to sit there, he didn't know. Erik pulled a carved wooden chair out from one of the other cave rooms and he pulled it a decent distance from Ana, but facing her. He still was wearing his cape and hat.
Why were they here? Of course it was his idea to bring her here to prove he was the Phantom. Who else would live in a cave 5 storeys under the opera house? But he had thought she would wish to leave very soon after realizing that it was only his voice which lured her here with him. So what now?
"So what did you wish to do, young woman? A friendly game of chess, or something a bit more interesting? Knife throwing perhaps?" He pulled out his dagger from its sheath at his waist and slowly ran his finger over its very shap edge. He smiled. "Or something else? Perhaps a friendly talk about why I wish to live in a place like this....or perhaps...you would like to tell me your life story....since you seem to know mine backward and forward. What will it be...hmmmm?" The preceding was said in a quiet but rather sarcastic voice. He was tired of her games. He wanted to know exactly what she was up to. He was still toying with the dagger. Then he put it down.
"Or perhaps..." at this, he got up slowly and walked in her direction with his slow, predatory feline walk. "Perhaps you'd like to see why Christine began to think of as a mad man..." At this he suddenly jerked the white slk covering off of the bridal manequin of Christine....

Those brown hues lifted to look at him as he brought out a chair. Watching him but not constantly, it was difficult to keep her sights on him as she blinked a few times. Phantom or some delusional guy, he had a way getting to her and feeling rather vulnerable. Hating it. Then figured she was letting herself be vulnerable by allowing his words to get to her.
Unwrapping her arms from around her torso to drape so casually yet regal upon the armrests of the throne as she sat there. Lifting her eyes once more to look at him as he spoke. Smiling as he mentioned a game of Chess. One thing she was glad about, he never called her a girl, or chick or something degrading to what she really was. A bit more interesting? Knife throwing? Was that meant to scare her? Watching him fondle the knife, belaying a sharp desire of fear that he may yet do harm to her. Again, if he wanted to harm her, he would have done it by now. Not that he seemed not to try perhaps. It did raise in her some concern and remained cautious around him. Now was the factor of trust. He had to earn her's just as she had to earn his. Blinking as she watched him without a smile, coming to this realization.
Stunned slightly as she continued to gaze back at him and blinked a couple times then her eyes moved away from him. She opened her mouth as though to speak but he spoke before she could put a word in. Shifting her eyes back to lock upon him as he moved and removed the white sheet to show the mannequin. And yet, there was no reaction. She sat up and slightly leaned forward, leaning upon the forearm as she watched him. "Am I suppose to faint or be utterly frightened?" He had that Wedding Dress made for Christine in hopes to make the poor young woman his Bride. Her eyes gazed hard at him in a silent show of varied emotions. But pity always remained there with the questions.
After a moment, her eyes dropped away from him as she turned them to the gondola to stare at it a moment, then looked around. "It never goes as we hoped it would. Does it?" Not looking at him but sat back into the throne, draping her arms casually over the armrests again then sighed.

After showing the manequin of Christine to Ana, Erik re-covered it. He went back to his chair and sat doiown, continuing to look at her. "What is it then that you wish me to do? I am clearly out of ideas. You are a bit hard to please." He kept his eyes on her. "You too, think me a mad man, don't you?" He continued to gaze at her. "But still, you refuse to leave. Why?"
He then stood up and began pacing. "I could be doing something quite a bit more useful than trying to make you talk to me, young woman. Something a lot more interesting." He stopped pacing for a moment. "Would you care for a glass or wine? Or some tea? Bloody hell, I know we just had some, but perhaps you'd like some more." He turned to face her. "Tell me what's bothering you. Tell me. Now." His voice was soft but demanding.
He walked over to her and put his fingers under her chin and tipped her face up to look at him. He was gentle, but firm. "I want to know what it is about me that bothers you so. If it were someone else, I would say it was probably the mask or my deformed face or maybe you don't like how I dress. Or maybe my tone is a bit condescending. Or perhaps you are wondering how my ugly mishapen lips would feel upon yours..."

Hard to please. Well that was interesting! She didn't think she had to be pleased. Least of all by the Phantom. But the fact was, she refused to be dragged above just like Christine. Nope, this would go differently. But really she didn't know why she refused to leave as of yet. Was it that little flicker of doubt in her mind that he was the Phantom from the Musical? Or was it something else?
From the corner of her eyes, she saw him pacing. It was obvious he was irritated. She wasn't giving him straight answers because she didn't know them herself. Why was she remaining here? And yet she continued to ask the question why did he bring her here?
Her eyes shifted to look back at him. Something more interesting? Like what, she thought. Or was it best that she didn't know. His gentle demands were unsettling but also disarming. There was no music to bend her to his will and yet she felt rather vulnerable to him. Turning her eyes away for a moment as she tried to gather her wits. Why ever was she staying here? What was she doing?!? Not once did she speak. She barely opened her mouth.
Gasping softly as her lips parted just slightly at his touch. Now gazing into his mismatched blue eyes as she took in a few barely audible sharp inhales. Narrowing her eyes as he spoke just barely a few times and blinking. A mad rush of emotions flashed in her eyes almost too quickly to even read each emotion. Closing her mouth as she stared back at him. Nothing about him bothered her other than the fact he was real. It should not be! Another sharp inhale as her lips parted and blinked slightly stunned at the mention of a kiss. The very thought numbed her mind and body as she stared up at him. Speechless. When she was young, yes it was a silly girlish daydream. But... Everything trailed off as she continued to stare at him. Not sure how to respond, how to react other than utter surprise. The words did not come to her mind. The thought of a kiss left her in limbo as her lips moved slightly as though she wanted to speak but the words did not flow, they were not even in her mind. In a moment, her eyes went a little glassy as they silently conveyed 'save me!'.

Erik withdrew his fingers. "No, I am sure you would be disgusted by such a thing as my lips upon yours." He turned away, wondering if she really would be disgusted. She didn't seem to be afraid of him. And she wasn't appalled at his face when she had seen it. She was a strong woman, one who had strong feeliings and strong opinions and it seemed he couldn't even jar her sensibilities even a little bit by anything that woul dhave had most women shaking by now. He rather admired her for that. And yet there was something irritating about her.
He turned away from her and resumed his pacing. "You know this is my home. You have no right to be here if I don't want you here. I could order you to go. Or I could drag you up to the mansion. Or I could ignore you. Or I could simply take the gondola across the lake and leave you here, alone in the dark. The candles go out eventually, you know." He stopped pacing and faced her. "Can you think of any other alternatives? I wish to give you a wide variety from whch to choose." His tone was sarcastic again.
"Come on, young woman, it certainly can't be that difficult to make a choice." Once more he took off his cape and hat and placed them over his chair. If she wasn't about to leave, he didn't need to put on his outerwear.
"You know that you weary me. I really have nothing to say to you anymore, regardless of what you may think." He walked over to her again and gently took her hands, raising her to a standing position. Then he put his hands on either side of her face and gently kissed her.

Barely furrowing her brow with barely parted lips looking back up at him rather confused as her breathing regulated as he spoke. The cocking a brow after he had spoke that she would most likely be disgusted with a kiss from him. He truly did assume a lot and yet, she was the one who remained silent!
Looking rather bewildered as she watched him pace away. A feeling of unwanted and rejection slipped in as it sounded like he did not want her there any more or even at all! Well, he was fool to bring her down here! It still dug deep into her this feeling of being unwanted. Yes, now was the best time to leave. But she sat there on the throne now sitting up and seated upon the edge of the throne as her eyes danced from him to the floor or the gondola or elsewhere then back to him in a silent surprise saying 'you wouldn't?!?'. He spoke a lot and yet, his actions were not followed through. Once again, if he wanted to truly do them, he would have. But he didn't. Only informing her of the threats. So she sat there rather well enough grounded and satisfied.
"It is," she simply replied to him in a strong voice. Her eyes upon him as they studied his motions with a curiosity to know when to leave which she supposed it was as good a time to leave as any. He conveyed that he didn't want her here any more. It was strange this whole situation and yet she couldn't let it get to her. His actions of removing his hat and cloak confused her. Were they not going to leave? Didn't he just say he wanted her gone?
Think? Say? He's the one who spoke the majority of the time! He practically spoke too much, she thought. But he was also inquiring. Digging. Trying to irritate her. Trying to understand. She inhaled deeply with slightly furrowed brows and looked away but returned her brown hues to watch him as he approached her. Blinking up at him with slightly parted lips as he drew her to her feet to stand before him. She actually was waiting for him to lead her to the gondola and away like a child again, or like Christine but the surprise was upon her. It wasn't his hands holding her face that stunned her. She expected some further chatting at close range or a biting command but there was nothing. Nothing except the unexpected - a kiss.
Surprise was an understatement! She didn't know how to react to this! An old boyfriend that had no right, oh, yeah, she could deal with that. Some stranger off the street who thought he could steal a kiss, perhaps. But an awkward kiss from a being, a man, who was suppose to be fictional yet was actually real and was now kissing her?!? She didn't know what to think or do! Lord, this would have made her more than ecstatic years ago. But the girl in her had died and replaced was the woman who's life experiences would never ever let that little girl emerge again. Unless this was what he was hoping for that little bit of innocence to return to a woman who's over used and so very much broken but stronger and better for it.
Undecided for a couple of seconds as she stood there stiffly but closed her eyes then softened and relented to kissed him back. No reading into the kiss for it was just that unless it was a test. Ehh, it didn't matter any more. A man was a man was a man. But this was the Phantom! And wasn't it Christine who kissed him, not the other way around? Realizing that this was all different and not at all close to Christine's experience she came to terms in silence.
All thoughts began to melt away as her hands came up to cup his jaw with one last molding of his lips with hers then withdrew her lips barely an inch from his as she gasped softly for breath but her eyes remained closed a moment longer as she struggled with what to say. Was that what he wanted? Is that his answer? Was that the surprise he was looking for? Was he satisfied? Yet she sighed unsure what to say until the words finally came out- "Well, that was unexpected," she spoke them slowly, almost breathy. "Almost," breathy and barely above a whisper. Paused a moment as she opened her eyes , "But not unexpected." Gazing into his mismatched blue eyes as she stood there. No she did not run, did not punch him, did not faint or scream but she relented to give in to that little fantasy. She smiled and became a warmer person as she continued to speak softly, "A hug would have sufficed."

Ana was still remaining silent, still seated on the throne. Only emotions running across her face and a bit of her body language were clues to what she was thinking. She seemed to look a bit forlorn at one point. He felt a tug at his heart for her. This was strange, because only minutes ago he had been willing to push her into the lake and just moments ago he had been extremely irritated with her. But she wasn't saying anything.
Finally, when he said that it is difficult to make a choice, she answered him, It is, she said. She seemed to be watching him closely. But not with disgust or loathing, really, he thought. Every word he said seemed to make another emotion come out in her. He wished she would verbalize something or make a decision as to what she wished to do. He would welcome some company if she wished to be civil, but he couldn't be sure.
Impulsively, then, Erik had approached her, taken her by the hands and kissed her. What would she think, he wondered? Likely she would slap him across the cheek. That had happened several times before and he wouldn't be surprised.
She seemed surprised, puzzled. She stood there for a moment, eyes closed, then kissed him back. It was lovely and he melted into her kiss. He closed his eyes and kissed her again. Her hands cupped his jaw and then they moved away slightly, her eyes yet closed. He sighed. It had been better than he thought.
Finally, she spoke, saying it had been unexpected. Many things about Erik were unespected. He was logical normally and thought things out, but there were those times when his emotions ruled him and he became impulsive and sometimes slightly irrational.
Erik smiled, feeling better. Then she said that a hug would have sufficed. He smiled again and hugged her gently. After a long moment, he whispered, "Did you wish to stay here a bit with me? I am interested in hearing more about you..."

What an incredibly strange moment - kissed by the Phantom! Stranger yet was when she kissed him back. What ever was she thinking?!? Well, she wasn't thinking, just reacting. It was better than decking him and good thing she didn't do that. If it had been any stranger that she had never seen before she most likely would have slapped or decked the dude. Lucky for Lenoir, she was rather familiar with the Phantom. Sort of. She only knew about the character in the musical and story. She did not know the man - the one that stood before her just mere inches away.
From a kiss to a hug now. Stunned and again not sure what to think instead all she did was react. She saw that smile upon his awkward lips. A snicker-huff as she smirked, her arms then slipped around him and hugged him back. If there was one thing in the world that was always needed no matter who you were, it was a hug, a smile or a laugh. She was at ease while holding him in what she called a 'power hug' because it was always good therapy and medicine to help one's soul heal.
Eyes closed again as her head rested upon his shoulder in a partially relaxed state. Until his whispered words brushed over her ears. Her eyes opened and she tensed just slightly before she pulled back a little, her hands resting upon his upper arms as she gazed back at him bewildered. Her pinched face filled with confusion, although there was a hint of fear in there wondering if things would go too far. Lord, it better not! She didn't want to deal with all that again. She swore never again would she fall in love or anything of that sort. The defenses that were starting to come down were slowly being raised again. She didn't want this iconic image from her youth to ruin her- no, not ruin her, for her to ruin her image of him! Perhaps it was best that he stay at a distance and out of reach. It always seemed better and safer to fancy the unreal. Or now, to just be disconnected with one's emotions and leave it all at the door. Easier to say goodbye when one was not involved.
"Why?"

Erik could see that Ana was pleased when he kissed her. And she kissed him back. It was a lovely moment. He was actually surprised that he received a kiss in return instead of a slap. And he hugged her when she said that she liked hugs. When she snickered though, he frowned, keeping his arms around her. She was hugging him tightly and he liked that. But that little snicker. What did that mean? Was she still not taking him at his word? Did she think him foolish? He was always a bit awkward ahout these things, for it had not even been a year since his very first kiss. He felt at ease with Emilie and Teressa, although he had only kissed Teressa once and she seemed to be a bit new at these things too. But this Ana was experienced and he at once realized she probably saw him as an amateur at love, an over-aged amateur who probably looked very foolish in her eyes. But what was he even thinking of love for? This was not love, it was only a kiss. A kiss to make this young woman believe him and to make her at ease.
Erik didn't know where his emotions lay, but certainly Ana was no love object of his. He liked her in a way, but in a way he was also afraid of her. What? The Phantom afraid of a mere woman? But poor, inexperienced Erik really didn't know what this young woman made of him. He had the feeling she was laughing at him sometimes. Certainly she was not afraid of him. Was she trying to make a fool of him? He didn't know. He was sure she didn't take him seriously.
Then, when he asked her if she would stay a while, he felt her sudden tenseness. Now what was wrong? Had he said something wrong? Her head was on his shoulder and that felt very nice. But now he felt ill at ease himself. Then he whispered, "Are you all right? I merely wanted to know if you would like to stay and chat. The alternative is leaving here, which you have told me in no uncertain terms that you did not wish to do. So which is it?" Erik touched her long chestnut hair. It felt lovely. He squeezed his eyes together and shook his head slightly. She was so illogical. What the hell did she want?

That kiss lingered upon her lips in a slight tingling sensation and was disturbing herself a little more now. Forcing herself to breathe normally in an attempt not to let him get to her. How twisted and unreal this felt! It was like some old fling or boyfriend had re-entered her life and stirred up old feelings. In a way, that's exactly what was happening and again, it was disturbing her greatly!
He was amusing and interesting. Her knowledge of the character slowly began to filter back but not all that much of what she used to know. Slowly prying herself away from him and felt him touch her hair. Desperately trying to restrain any reaction but that seemed impossible as her lips barely parted and almost swooned. There was something rather attractive about him then, and now as she was older, more experienced in life, that childish ignorance wondering what made him so appealing was utterly gone. She recognized it immediately and it both disturbed her and delighted her. Stepping back from him slowly, withdrawing her arms but let one hand slide along his arm as she moved to a step and sat down and sighed. Draping her arms over her knees as she gazed out at nothing then up at him with revealing eyes. "Alright. First off, no offense, but it will take me a while to really believe you. But, you have made your case flawlessly." She slightly smirked up at him. "Do you want the short version or the long version about me?" Rather baffled that he inquired about her. She really was insignificant unlike him. She really couldn't help but smile up at him, the lingering sensation of that kiss now dwindling but lord, she really understood what was so appealing about him. Desperately she had to keep herself in check and make sure it all stayed in check. She could see how it could all get out of hand so easily. She could easily fall for it unlike 20 years ago when she was sheltering herself from relationships or even intimacy.

Erik was rather unaware of the emotions that seethed through Ana's being. He had no idea of the power of his kiss upon her lips. For him, it was all about proving himself, that he was who he said he was. It was truly annoying to be thought an imposter. It was also a kiss of friendship, a kiss that said, let's put the past behind us and come to an understanding.
Ana sat down and Erik pulled the carved wooden chair closer to her and sat down. Ana said that it would take her a while to really believe him. He sighed and held his masked forehead in his hand. "Damnit. You still don't believe me. What would you have me do?" This was starting to become extremely irritating to Erik and he hoped he could hold his temper in for as long as it took to get her out of here. It had been such a very bad idea to bring her here. He couldn't get rid of her.
"Whichever version you wish to give me, dear lady," Erik said with a smile that was difficult to keep on his face, because it was forced. All he looked forward to now was getting rid of her. His emotions went this way and that. He didn't seem to be able to control the swing of the emotional pendulum. He sighed inwardly.
"I made my case flawlessly, you say. You sound as if I were the defense attorney in a court of law and my client was myself. And yet I was still going to the guillotine, no matter how flawless my logic."
Erik had no idea what Ana was thinking. He just couldn't read her. She was too different, to much from the future. He had thought the future was only about new inventions, strange clothing and a different way of speaking. But there was more that he was not even aware of. While people hadn't changed inately, their behaviour was so different, he couldn't comprehend what it meant or even have an inkling about it unless he was cued in to it... After all, even in his own time, Erik had been sheltered considerably, for better or for worse...

Slightly raising her brows as she sat there upon the step looking back at him. Hands flipped over to where her palms were up, rather casually, "If I told you I was the Queen of England, would you believe me?" Hoping that she made her point. "Do you really expect me to just blindly believe you? I'm 36 years old, Mister Lenoir." Finally, she spoke his name. Rather confident, casual and comfortable around him. Dipping her head slightly down as she gazed back at him with hopeful eyes. "Give me the benefit of the doubt and time to let this sink in. After all, to me, you were nothing more than a fictional character in a stage musical." She wanted to believe him, desperately wanted to believe him. But this was a bit much to swallow.
She shifted and situated herself again on the step, inhaled then exhaled slowly. "Well, I was born and raised in Dekalb, Illinois, in the US. My parents are divorced. I have done a lot of various jobs from Security to waitressing. I almost became an Investigator. Went to College to get my degree in Criminal Justice. I couldn't handle the stress nor the corpses so I never made it. But that's ok. I work with Billie who pretty much rescued my butt more times than I can even comprehend," she smirked as she dazed off into nothing. "Been working with horses for a few years now." She dropped her gaze and head a little as her hands flopped a little then dropped and picked at her fingernails. "Not married. No kids. Just... my horse. And Billie." Still not looking at him. "Though I was engaged once. That... didn't work so well." ans she looked rather hurt and apprehensive, trying to keep her eyes away from his view.
Trying to keep her eyes from his view by looking away from him as her eyes turned a little glassy from a threat of tears that she desperately kept a bay. "Like I mentioned before as you know it, I knew you as the Phantom from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical. It's all over the world, longest running and absolute favorite Musical of all time. It's topped Hello Dolly, Cats, Les Miserables, The Sound of Music, and many other greats." Barely glancing over at him, stifling a blush. "And... like many, had a massive crush upon you when I was younger." She couldn't bring herself to look at him. Not yet. "You ... have this... appeal... about you. That makes you.. quite... attractive." And kept her face and gaze away because she didn't want him to see how embarrassed yet delighted to say that.

"If you told me you were the Queen of England, of course I should not believe you. Queen Victoria is much older, and, not to disparage her, but she is singularly unatrractive. You look nothing like her. And you don't act like her either." He was tired of explaining himself. "Blindly? Blindly? How many proofs have I given you? Of course I have already given you the benefit of the doubt. How much more must I give you?"
She told him she was 36 years old. She must have seen a lot of the world, for she did not seem a naiive or sheltered girl. And then she said it, fictional character. That was so annoying. He had heard this so many times now...He signed and closed his eyes. She lost credibility with him when she called him that. How could he possibly be a fictional character when he knew he was flesh and blood...why Ana had discovered that herself when he had put his strange, but unique lips upon hers...that was no fiction...
She then told him of her background...she was from the American midwest from a broken family. He was surprised that she went to college and had received a degree. That was unusual in Erik's time. The world must have changed quite a bit...and Ana detailed her various jobs and her friendship with Billie. Here Erik laughed. "Billie did seem to hold you in a bit of regard," he said. He remembered that Billie had seemed to be a bit anxious about not missing his meeting with Ana...
She spoke of being engaged once and it didn't work out. She looked hurt and Erik said in response, "I was almost married once, but she wouldn't have me..." Then he blushed. "I suppose you know all about that too..."
Ana mentioned Andrew Lloyd Webber. He had no idea who that was. His name kept coming up. And she mentioned the names of some musicals as she called them, none of which sounded familiar to Erik. He didn't really understand what a musical was either. Perhaps she meant an opera. Or perhaps it was more along the lines of a vaudeville show. But he didn't say anything. He didn't want Ana to think he was ignorant about that.
Then Ana repeated the fact that she had a crush on Erik years ago. Again he didn't understand the time line, but he didn't say anything this time. And Ana said Erik had an appeal, and she found him attractive. He frowned. "You are surely toying with me. You found me attractive? I have been told many times I am the antithesis of attractive. I don't think I believe you." He wasn't angry or irritated but he just didn't believe Ana.

She softly laughed and looked back at him now. "Queen Victoria?!?" snickering, "Oh, you need to be caught up in World events, my dear Phantom." And there was a sparkle in her eyes as she hoped to help him in that aspect. Someday, perhaps. That is, IF he would let her. "Queen Elizabeth the second is Monarch of England now. She's a tougher and amazing woman compared to Queen Victoria."
Then her little smile disappeared and she looked down, "I need no further proof. You've done what you can. I just... need a little... time." Then looks up at him with hopeful eyes once again. "Please try to see this from my point of view." Her voice sweet and sincere, trying to sooth him as she really was wanting to believe but this was a bit much to take in. She needed to let it all sink in.
Smirking again when Billie was mentioned, then tilted her head down and looked as though she were remembering a lot of past memories. "He's been more of a father figure to me than my own dad." Fidgeting and fondling her fingers a moment as they remained draped over her knees.
Another smirk, not looking at him with a slight snicker-huff and then nodded. "Yeah." Shifting her eyes to look at him. "Her loss I suppose." And she smiled at him. Then looked away, still smiling as she fidgeted with her fingers, practically blushing. "A lot of women find you attractive." she started off with an explanation that it wasn't just her. But now she was wishing she didn't say that. "It's not that appearance has a factor now a days, it does, but... " she paused as she thought. "It's who you are that makes you attractive... Mister Lenoir." Shifting her brown eyes to look at him with curiosity and awaiting a reaction. But before she could watch for it, her smile disappeared and she diverted her eyes to the floor. "You have more qualities than .." hesitating, "men... I knew." More like dated, loved, had relationships and intimacy with. Even her former fianceƩ. She couldn't look at him as her eyes were generally reflecting how much her distaste was for them. She wanted to forget them all but it was difficult to.

Ana explained who the present reigning monarch of Great Britaini was. "I seem to have forgotten that we are in the future...or your present ...0r whatever it is. I don't know. It's confusing and ridiculous. " He also felt that Ana was ridiculing him a bit by her snickering. That seemed terribly rude. But Erik didn't comment on it, for perhaps it was the way of the modern world. Perhaps it was all right to be rude. Erik could be rude...he was downright horrid sometimes depending on to whom he was speaking. But he used rudeness for a purpose. Ana...and he extended it to perhaps all the modern world...simply used it as a matter or course. He was liking this modern world less and less. He was happy that he had his lair to keep to himself. And he was glad of the people from his own era.
Then she said she needed no more proof that he was the Phantom, just some time to let it sink in. That made no sense to Erik really, but again, a modern woman. Perhaps in this instance, woman was the ruling word. He would never understand women...his mother, the Christines, Meg, and some of the others, and especially this Ana. He remained quiet for he really didn't know what to say. And she did seem sincere.
She mentioned Billie as being somewhat of a father figure to her. "I suppose I don't know what it's like to be a father, nor will I ever know," said Erik. "However, I have....you might say...adopted a little girl from the village who was rather neglected by her family. She lives here now and visits me often. She is quite delightful and I enjoy her company, although, I must say, she talks more than I do..." He said the last with a smile playing about the visible side of his lips.
She remarked in answer to his reference about Christine that is was her loss. "Perhaps not," said Erik, thoughtfully. "I intend to try to get her back."
Then she said an astounding thing, at least it sounded so to Erik. Ana said that many women find Erik attractive. He looked at her in skepticism and amazement. "How could that possibly be? Most of them are horrified and there are others who simply laugh at me, glad they are not as ugly as I..." Erik pauseed and looked at Ana. She certainly didn't belong to the first category. With all of her snickering, maybe the second? But she had allowed him to kiss her....Perhaps there was a third category?
Ana explained that people don't consider appearance as much of a negative as they did in times past. She said who you are makes you attractive. Surely that couldn't be true either. ...
