Edouard got up and leaned heavily on his wife. Without so much as a single word to any of the other ladies, they left the kitchen and walked through the dining room. "What was he doing in the kitchen anyway?" he mumbled. "Trying to act as if he knows how to cook? How ridiculous. Everyone knows men should stay out of the kitchen." He gave a sideways glance to his wife. She probably wasn't listening anyway. "I was only there because they need some watching." Of course it didn't make any sense, but Edouard didn't often make any sense at all when he had imbibed a bit too much.
"That strange American, the one who can't even speak English very well, what the bloody hell was she doing in the kitchen? And I think she stole my money. I didn't see her do it, but I had to take my wallet away from her. She is a sly one, that girl. I think she should be turned over to the police! And that little brat of a maid! The nerve! She slapped me for saying something about Lenoir that is painfully obvious! He is as ugly as sin! And you...you...my wife...kiss that ugly face! How can you stand to do that?"
Edouard ranted on and on until finally they reached his suite.

Adina smiled and stepped back from the dish to retrieve a ladle. She tilted the pan a bit and scoop some of the fragrant liquid into the spoon. It smelled delicious and made the young maid's mouth water. She licked her lips and smiled again.
She paused a moment after Erik went to retrieve the mugs. She frowned and looked down at the pan of cider as it steamed and swished against the sides of the pan. Lifting her head towards Ana, she asked, "Did I go too far when I slapped M. de Chagney? I feel he did need to be told off; he has been quite rude as of late, especially towards Erik... Lenoir, I mean."

Holding Edouard with an arm around him in an effort to steady him. Silently she wondered why. Guiding him, helping him out of the kitchen, through the dining room and down the halls to his suite.
Hearing Raoul Edouard wonder aloud why Lenoir was in the kitchen. If she had the guts enough to ask she'd ask the same question of him! Why was Edouard in the Kitchen? Was it only because of her? If so then why? Was he still that paranoid about Lenoir? A lot that she was thinking of but said nothing in return only kept a pleasant countenance around her Husband. Now was NOT the time to go against him. Even when he continued on and on about Lenoir's 'ugliness', she said nothing. It was painful that Edouard was still so wicked towards Erik.
When they came to his suite, she took him inside over to his bed. His bed. Yes, it was his. Not theirs. There hadn't been a 'theirs' in some time. But as always, she still did her best to be a pleasant, loving Wife. Touching the side of his face as she lightly smiled at him, "Rest, dear. You mustn't worry, dear." Then leaned in to kiss his cheek. Caressed the side of his face with her thumb for a while in hopes to calm him down.

Watching Adina a moment after watching Emilie and Edouard leave then shook her head as she pried away from the island counter and walked around to the other side to continue with the other baked goodies. She remained silent even though she was briefly thinking about what happened then tossed it out. Was it always going to be like this here?
Tossing her head to shake her hair back a bit, then looked over at Lenoir and motioned to a couple of cups sitting out. "There's a couple of cups over there, Lenoir," sounding rather disconnected and wry.
Looking up and over at Adina who was obviously looking at and talking to her. Looking away and down as she dealt with ingredients, wiped her hands off with a towel, turned to face Adina, giving the girl her full attention. "We are all only human." she began and set down the towel. "Now... someone of authority would say yes and to be the better person since you are an adult. But," as she placed her hand upon the counter, looking rather wry and contemplative. One would think she was livid but kept silent. That was not really the case. If she was livid, a person would know for sure! "Someday he will get what's coming to him. But you cannot reason with an arrogant drunk." She sounded harsh and she was. It was a good thing that Emile was not there. "In most cases," raising her brows as she looked rather harsh, "-there is no reasoning with men," turned her head to Lenoir, "No offense, Lenoir." And she looked rather darker, older, and something else one would never really put their finger upon but it made her look intimidating. "Question is," as she turned her eyes back to Adina, "is that something you are proud of yourself for doing?" Glancing over to Lenoir, "Erik is an adult, he can fend for himself. But there was no way in hell that guy was going to stay longer than five minutes anyways. I won't sit still for abuse of any sort," and she looked more than dead serious.
Diverting her eyes from Adina to Lenoir, "Is this true?" Perhaps she was being a bit more concerned than she should be. But there was no way she was going to be unprepared for a battle without the right ammunition. Already in her mind, she was formulating another time to talk to that man who was here, that Raoul, when he was sober to at least talk with him. Lord help her to at least keep her anger in check.
With a slight lightening aura and a smile, "besides, we all know that he's wrong," loosely indicating to the door where Emilie and Raoul left through a while ago. "After all, he's gone," walks over to Lenoir, "and Lenoir's still here with us!" Grabbing his shoulders from behind like a playful friend, lightly shaking them as she looked over at Adina with a grin and a giggle, "If anything, I think Erik needs a group hug from us. What do you say?" Then looks at Erik with a smile. "Re-enforce that we love him."

Erik was glad his archenemy was leaving with his wife, although he hoped Emilie would return. Edouard must be a handful for the poor woman. He had told her she should divorce the Vicomte and marry him, but she felt it would be too much of a scandal. Erik didn't care about scandal, but understood how bad it could be for Emilie.
He had not replied to the Vicomte. Erik had a very bad temper, but oft he could keep it in check until he was pushed too far. Luckily this episode had not gone that far. He had moved over to the pantry to fetch some mugs when Ana brought his attention tot he fact that there were some already sitting out. He smiled and nodded. "Adina, I think you may turn off the gas now. I believe the cider is ready to drink." He poured the translucent caramel coloured liquid into four mugs and put a cinnamon stick into each.
"Yes, of course I can take care of myself Ana. I have done so since I was a child. And I shall always fight my own battles. However, I must say, it was quite lovely to have someone stand up for me in such a ...definite....manner." He smiled fondly at Adina.
"I don't know if everyone here knows, but there has been bad blood between de Chagny and myself for a very long time. We fought over Christine many times. And the other de Chagny fits into this too, but in a strange sort of way that I can't quite understand. In any case, de Chagny, at times, can be a brave enough fellow. I had thought that we had perhaps put our bad blood behind us when he pulled that prank on me in the village. While certainly I cannot put the whole blame on him, it was his idea and he tricked me, which, I might mention, will never happen again. I was beginning to have a bit of trust in him, but after that, it shall be very hard to trust him again."
"As for what you did, Adina, the bloody fool deserved it. I would have done far worse. So thank you my dear. I appreciate it." He smiled. "However next time, there is no need. I shall rip him to shreds as I see fit."
"It seems as if all the ladies appear to be on my side. Very lovely to know that. And Miss Lucinda, I applaud your pick pocket adventures. It was quite interesting how you embarrassed him. I must warn you though, unless you are willing to take the consequences, do not let yourself be light-fingered here in the mansion, for not only will you be caught, but I personally shall decide your punishment. Do you understand me?" He realized he was lecturing the poor girl again. "I realize you meant well, and I appreciate your efforts on my behalf."
"And Ana, I can see that you were upset over what the Vicomte said to me also. Please, don't be. I shall deal with him in my own way."
Then Ana said something about a group hug. "Pray tell what is that? And does it hurt?" Erik was teasing of course, but he really didn't know what a group hug was.

Adina blinked... She was in shock at how Ana seemed to be rather bitter towards Edouard. She called him an 'arrogant drunk'- which was true- but it was strange. This woman was agreeing with the maid... We are all only human.
She flinched slightly at how harsh Ana was being, shifting uncomfortably at her expression. But she finally relaxed and nodded. She asked if she was proud of herself for slapping Edouard... Was she? She looked down and then back up at Ana and nodded. She was right; Lenoir was an adult and he could handle himself.
Speaking of Lenoir, he said that perhaps Adina should turn off the gas. "Oh! Oui, Erik. Mmm, it smells delightful. délicieux!" She turned off the gas and then moved back as Lenoir filled the mugs with the hot cider. She smiled and inhaled the smell again; it was sweet like a candy apple, though she never tasted one before.
I must say, it was quite lovely to have someone stand up for me in such a ...definite....manner.
Lenoir really said that about her? She smiled back at him and then quickly looked down at her feet. Then she giggled a bit when Erik said that Raoul did deserve it, and he did... She was so happy; happy to be around such kind and caring people, happy to be alive to cherish these moments.
"'Group hug'?" Adina repeated, tilting her head again. She had never heard of such a notion nor did she really like the said of it either.

Watching Lenoir then glanced down at the fact of he's had to defend himself for so long. Growing up sooner than he should have been. Poor man perhaps didn't have a childhood or a good one at least. Eyes still looked at the floor a moment as she pitied Lenoir for his rough life. Seemed like everyone always had one. He was so very normal like the rest of them. Then shifted her eyes to look at him for a brief moment before looking at Adina.
Then she nodded and completely understood what Lenoir said about the problems between de Chagny and him. Barely a shake of her head thinking that will never change. How unfortunate.
She looked up at Lenoir after he mentioned shredding Raoul. Raising her brows with barely a tilt downward of her head, that look in her eyes in hopes to lightly scold Lenoir, "No using the punjab again," then grinned and warmed up to him with a light snicker.
If Adina was proud of herself for slapping Edouard, then Ana nodded and brushed it off. Who was she to argue with what had already happened? She agreed with the lot of them, Raoul deserved what was coming to him. And she left it at that with a light smile at Adina.
"A group hug? It's simple," as she motioned for Adina to come over to her and Lenoir. Then motioned for Lu to come as well, "Come on, Lu!" she grinned. "We all just.. hug... at the same time, all together. I'm sure Lenoir would like a hug from all of us at the same time, "Looking at Lenoir with a smirk.

He liked all these ladies so much. Never really having friends before, it amazed him that they just rather naturally liked him. Ana was a strange modern woman, but he really warmed up to her after the first couple times they had met. She was different, but as he well knew, being different was not always a bad thing. In his case, he was very different, and yet she accepted him. A sad past he suspected Ana must have had, but she had many good qualities and he was looking forward to getting to know her better.
Adina, the sweet little red head, from a different era even than his. She was gentle and kind, generous, thoughtful, and perhaps a bit shy. But her hot temper rivaled Erik's temper. He liked her feistiness.
Lu, well he didn't know her well. He thought her different too, oddly outspoken, and rather humourous. Perhaps he would spend some time with her to learn what she was about. She had some bad habits, and he was always ending up lecturing her. He thought though, that she was going to be an asset to the mansion, if she kept her light fingers to herself.
Emilie of course, was intertwined with his memories of Svenna. They looked so much alike and yet, Emilie had grown differently from Svenna so that now they were two distinct persons. It had been Svenna in the lair with Christophe, and yet, somehow, he seemed to remember Emilie and Edouard there . Which of course made no sense. And he felt as if he were in love with her. If she would only divorce de Chagny, he would have her hand in marriage in a moment. But of course that would probably not happen. She loved de Chagny too. Who could understand the mind of a woman?
The three ladies who were still in the kitchen, Ana, Lu and Adina came over to Lenoir and they all embraced, at the same time. It gave Erik a real sense of being loved. Odd, his life had taken such a strange turn in the last year. Next month it would be a year that Erik had been at the Mansion. Before that he had been a haunted creature, living in a dark cellar, having no friends and few acquaintances, never showing his face even with the mask firmly in place, living by himself and rarely speaking to anyone, later, pursued by the law and an angry mob, .... and now, the change was amazing. He felt completely turned around in almost every way. And all because a few odd spectres were lonely and decided to have a bit of fun. It had turned out quite well for Erik....
He hugged the three ladies and he for once, felt grateful for his life. "Merci, merci beaucoup, mes amies..." Erik whispered.
