She snickered and smirked a little as she mixed up the fruit cake ingredients. "Funny. I believe it was the Aristocracy that made up those rules of Civility and Etiquette, generally how to behave properly in public and private," finally looking back up at him as she moved over to pick up the bottle of rum she bought, opened it and measured out a small portion for the fruit cake. Then took the brandy and measured out the same portion for another fruit cake. "You'd know all about that, wouldn't you? Since you say you are of Noble blood." Looking rather non-chalant while preparing to bake.
"Deal with?" Looking up at him as she mixed it all by hand with a wooden spoon. "No. They just know how to set a good example for the world on how to be a better person. Just because you are a bit better than others does not mean you can lounge around and drink all the time. People of importance do more. Get involved. Set good examples of themselves." Setting the bowl down as she prepared the two baking pan. "I like to learn," not looking up at him. "I like to be informed. I like to praise those who are good, wise, and positive people. Right now, I greatly respect the Royals of England because they do more than sit around, they are part of this world and they work with those whom they govern not make those they govern work for them." Pausing a moment, "Up to you. You can continue to sulk and be offended or be the noble you are and actually make something of yourself in this world." Smiling up at him as she finished off the pans of fruit cake then started to put them all in the oven. "Your choice."
"Well if you don't like milk, have orange juice or apple juice or water. Something a little more healthier than alcohol all the time." She gave him a brief stern look then moved on over to Lu to see if she could help.

Lu snickered at Ana speaking to the drunk Frenchman who considered himself so noble and high and mighty. Ana knew what to say to bring the fellow down. Although it didn't seem to work. He was only getting annoyed. Lu buttered and floured the pans so the cake wouldn't stick and pushed them over to Ana. "Ready for pourin' when you are." Lu laughed at Edouard's uncomfortableness at Ana's jibes.
When Ana mentioned he might like orange juice, she jumped in. "I'd be happy to git you some orange juice, Mister Frenchy Vie-Count. " She giggled. Then she looked at the next recipe. "Has some spicy flavorings here, Ana. Ginger, cinnymin and I don't know that word." She brought it over to Ana to read it for her. "What's that?" The word in question was cardamom.

"Will you be all right, Adina? If you can join us in the kitchen, ladies, please come out. I must check on Monsieur de Changy to see if he is harassing the ladies." He leaded over to Emilie and said, "Let me know if she needs to go back to her suite. If so, I shall b e delighted to take her." He left the two women together and opened the swinging door in the midst of a little exchange of words between Edouard and the ladies." He glanced from the women to Edouard. "Everything all right out here?: It did appear the women were getting the better of Edouard.
Erik smiled and let them continue to have their fun. He went over to the jug of apple cider and, finding a large pan with a handle, poured the cider in and took it over to the stove. Erik gathered the items he needed for the drink which included, brown sugar, allspice, cloves, nutmeg, an orange and of course the cinnamon stick. He put all of the ingredients into the pan and turned on the gas to warm it, stirring it with a wooden spoon. "Ladies, get me some ceramic or glass mugs, I shall have this ready for you in a short time."

Edouard was in rather a black mood, having been taunted and teased by the ladies. Who did they think they were? Ridiculous Americans! What did they know about anything? Especially the nobility. What could they possibly know about growing up in a noble family and what that meant. Why they had no nobility in America? He sniffed disdainfully and drank a bit more of the brandy left in his glass.
Then Lenoir entered the kitchen again and asked if everything was all right. Edouard said nothing. He didn't care to tell the Phantom all of his business. Lenoir then appeared to be making something with apple cider. He put ingredients in the pan and stated stirring it on the stove.
Edouard laughed, "Monsieur Le Fantôme, do not tell me that you are as domestic as these ladies? I suspect you have another reason for being here, don't you? Aha, I know I'm right. You just want to stay here with the ladies because you think they love you, don't you? Yes, you think that, but it's only because you have mesmerized them. It that would not be so, they would all run and hide for fear of your monstrously ugly face!"
"And what have you done to my wife to make her love you? You have enchanted her too, I know it! Ever since we first met in that underground cellar where you live, you have enchanted her! As we rode away on the boat, even as you encouraged us to go, you had enchanted Christine. She never got over it. And then here, at the mansion, I find you cavorting with her...you wife stealer!" Edouard looked a bit self-satisfied as he finished the last of his drink. He liked to see the Phantom seething. He wondered what Lenoir would do in front of the women.Filthy bastard... he muttered under his breath.

"Oui, Erik," The maid responded with a sheepish smile. She felt terrible that Lenoir had to get pulled into this situation. At least he understood what had made her nearly breakdown; she was quite reluctant to tell anyone else. "Thank-you for helping me. I shall not be long."
Adina took another sip of the water that Christine Emilie had brought her before standing up. She looked around and saw that one of the aprons she had tried to bring up had fallen beside the settee. She quickly picked it up and put it on for modesty. She inhaled deeply, feeling much better now that she was able to breathe.... But not for very long, for no sooner did she come into the kitchen she saw him: Edouard de Chagney. She frowned and quickly walked past him when she overheard him say something not to her liking...
It that would not be so, they would all run and hide for fear of your monstrously ugly face!... THAT did it!! She had had enough of this vulgar and callous man! Adina quickly whipped around to face Edouard and gave him a very harsh slap. Right across the face! "How DARE you!?" Oh, now she was furious! He had insulted Lenoir, one of Adina's friends and no one insulted her friends. Not ever! "You apologize to monsieur Erik Lenoir this instant!"

After dealing with the fruit cakes, she leaned over to look at the word that Lu had trouble with- "Cardamom," and looked for it quickly. "Ummm," milled about as Lenoir walked in and Edouard continued on his rant. Busy enough that she moved around Lenoir like it was a carefully choreographed dance, pulling down several mugs to set beside Lenoir on the counter space- "There ya go," as she picked off the spice called cardamom. With the spice in hand, she snickered as she listened to Raoul Edouard ramble on and on. Not really looking at Lenoir but could see him out of the corner of her eye but her attention was on Edouard as he continued to make a fool of himself all the while she was working on the next bit of Christmas goodies. Snickering or smirking a little here and there. Shaking her head a couple times. Wow, this was really a jab for sure but she had faith and confidence that Lenoir was a man enough to deal with Edouard, who was by means a decent man at all. Funny, Edouard sounded a lot like some of the guys she knew, even her ex-fianceé.
With a utensil in hand about to say something, the crack of flesh upon flesh hard and furiously fast drew her eyes wide as she caught that sight just in time. Her jaw dropped faster than a bullet train through China! Despite the fact that Edouard's vicious verbal words were focused upon Lenoir, the red-head that just re-entered the kitchen reacted first. Ana's face was utterly priceless in that moment just as her head turned to see Edouard's wife re-enter the room, too. "Oh, dear," she said softly more to herself and glanced at Lenoir with a look of 'fight on our hands' and yet hoped it wouldn't end up that way. Slipping into a mode ready to try and calm the nerves if possible and moved to a place in the kitchen where she was now standing at a fair position nearby bit at a bit of a distance, one hand upon her hip while the other was on the counter. Though Ana wanted to reply also to Edouard's harsh verbal abuse, she held back for the sake of the woman that had came in last. If need be, she will state something but for the moment she gazed hard and carefully dancing between Adina and Edoaurd. Standing there to make sure it never went too far out of hand.

Nodding slightly once as she smiled softly at Lenoir, a gesture as though she were to touch his arm with the back of her fingers. Turning to put her focus back upon the red-head named Adina. Keeping that slight warm smile with water in hand. There to offer her any help if needed.
When Adina returned to the kitchen, she held the glass of water and pondered what to do with the stays. Picking them up as she'll wrap them in a linen perhaps. Finding one from the cabinet and did just that while walking to the Kitchen. Walking in with glass of water in hand and the wrapped stays, ready to give the discarded piece to Adina when she heard the sound of a face slap and looked up to see as she froze in her spot at the door what had happened. Her eyes went wide and all of her sunk except her body dropping to the floor. The sickening pit in her stomach and her varied look upon her face made it difficult for her to say a word even though her lips were moving.
Putting down the glass of water quickly as she moved to Edouard, setting the linen wrapped stays upon the table," Raoul," as she hesitated but touched carefully his shoulder then his face. "Come, darling," her face hiding that slightly cracking voice as she was forcing a smile. "Let's get some fresh air." Not even paying attention to Adina or Lenoir or anyone else in the room.

Erik had started the spiced apple cider on the stove when Edouard started to jeer at him, going from something relatively harmless to a speculation that Erik was only here to romance the women, in particular Emilie, and ending with a nasty verbal jab at Erik's deformed face. Erik froze where he was. His face drained of colour, becoming whiter than his normal light colour. Even his lips became a bit paler. His mind was running through a million things he wanted to say and do, punch the fellow in the nose hard enough to make it bleed was one of the foremost in his mind.
However, Adina had entered just a moment before and apparently hearing the last part of Edouard's rant...the part about Erik's face... had her temper rise and she slapped Edouard hard across the face. Erik was surprised. He hadn't thought she would do that, but he admired her spirit. He put down the sp0on on the h older on the stove and caught Adina's arm. "It's all right. De Chagny here is an ignorant..." here Erik wanted to say bastard, but he didn't want to sound as crude as Edouard in front of hte ladies, so he said, "ignorant fool. He doesn't know what he is talking about."
Emilie had returned and it was likely that she had heard Edouard's cruel words too. She of course, intervened to defuse the situation. "Christine, I can take Edouard back to his suite to sleep it off. And don't worry, I won't hit hm while he's drunk..." He nodded toward the apple cider on the stove. "Adina can you stir that until it heats?" He turned back to Christine. "Unless you'd rather deal with him, Christine..." He touched her arm gently too.

Lu started measuring out the ingredients in her mixing bowl and saw Lenoir return. He started mixing things for his spiced apple cider, which sounded delicious to Lu. Perhaps he was not a bad fellow after all. He had called her out for stealing from Adina, which of course she should not have done, so clearly he was in the right. And he didn't seem to be angry. Adina didn't either. So this was a time to start again.
Just as Lu was thinking these thoughts, the little drunken Frenchman married to poor Christine...she called her that in her mind because Lu felt sorry for her being married to such a louse...when Edouard began to taunt Lenoir. He accused him of all sorts of things, one of them being that he said Lenoir was just after all the ladies. She thought about that. Lenoir was odd looking. And he had those strange lips. How would it be to kiss him on those strange lips? Probably nice. After all she had kissed Gunner plenty of times and he had no lips at all.
Then Edouard mentioned that Lenoir had romanced his wife, Christine. Lu's eyes grew wide. Could that be really true? At that point Adina came back in the kitchen, followed closely by Christine. By this time Edouard was insulting Lenoir about his face. She stared hard at Edouard. He was very horrid! You don't make fun of something like that. She suspected Lenoir had something under his mask that he wished to hide. She saw Lenoir drain of colour when Edouard made the remarks. She wondered if he would hit Edouard.
But Adina beat him to it. She slapped Edouard with a whack so hard it could probably be heard way out to the village and it left a red imprint on his face. She couldn't help smiling. That was the best thing she'd seen in a long time, If she would not have had her hands in dough, she would have jumped up and clapped.
Christine, it seemed, jumped in to intervene so there would be no more fighting. Then Lenoir said he would take Raoul back home. Lu hoped someone would take the nasty Vicomte out of the kitchen. She washed her hands and went over to him, pulling out the money she had taken from his wallet earlier. "By the way, here's your money what I took from your wallet before. You didn't even notice, Mister Vie-Count! " Lu flashed the money in front of his face and then handed it to Christine. "Just trying to teach him a lesson. He don't insult no one, 'specially me! And he ain't been any too nice to this nice fella here with the mask."
With that, she turned and went to the sink to wash her hands once more and continue mixing the dough.

Christine Emilie started to gently take her Husband's arm in hopes to urge him to get up. She was clearly disturbed but desperately tried to hide it. "Come, dear," as she tried to be gentle with her words and voice, to calm him with her sweet voice. "I'll take him," Christine Emilie glanced at Lenoir, with a slight nod. By no means was she disturbed with what Lenoir would do, but what Edouard would do to Lenoir! In her Husband's drunken state, Lord knows what could happen! She'd never forgive herself if she allowed Lenoir to take Raoul Edouard and something happened between them. She reassured Lenoir that she had this and that she will be fine with a returned gentle touch upon his arm and a slight smile.
Another flash of shock when another woman came up flaunting money before them, apparently that she'd stolen from Raoul Edouard without his knowledge! Not sure if she should be upset and or concerned. Holding her hand out to take the stolen cash, "thank you," she said kindly in reply to Lu. There was nothing going through Christine Emilie's mind other than absolute embarrassment. A little bit of a sickening twist in the pit of her stomach welled and the need to get Edouard and herself out of the Kitchen was so urgent she could not convey this to Edouard quickly enough!

Things were happening a bit too fast now for Edouard's drunken mind to pick up on it all at once. First Edouard had insulted Lenoir on purpose. He deserved it. He was a bit too free with his affections and it seemed h e wouldn't stay away from Emilie. Although Edouard couldn't remember if he had actually seen him with her lately. But none the less. And Lenoir wasn't gong to b e getting any better looking, so he decided to throw in a bit of that, too. Bloody ugly bastard certainly had guts to try to kiss a woman. What surprised Edouard was that they often kissed him back.
Once he had insulted the Phantom, he hadn't even noticed the man face grow pale. Instead, someone hit him on the face, very hard and very fast. He knew it wasn't Lenoir, but he wasn't sure who it actually had been. Probably one of the women. Everyone seemed to be back in the kitchen again. He held his hand over his face and yelled, "What the bloody hell was that for?" He tried to stand, but it was difficult and he held on to the table. Then one of the American women flashed something in his face and gave it to Emilie. She said something which, in h er strange accent, he couldn't understand.
Lenoir offered to take him to his suuite, which Edouard thought strange. It was probably a plan to do something horrendous to Edouard and he didn't like the sound of it. Then Emilie said she would take him back. She was there being her sweet self, trying to intervene between the two men. Or perhaps she was just defending the Phantom.
He held on to Emilie. "Take me home, Emilie. These people have been very disrespectful to me. I want to go home."

Adina viciously glared up at Raoul. "You deserved it, monsieur. For how rude you were to Lenoir at the pub. You deserved it and perhaps more but I am holding back for my own sake, not yours."
She flinched when she felt a hand grab her arm. She felt the blood drain from her face as she looked over to see Lenoir holding her forearm. She looked away and bit her lip. Perhaps she had gone too far and she was now regretting the course of action she had chosen upon. "I-I'll just get to work on the cider then, Erik."
She quickly moved away from the rest of the guests in the kitchen, picking up the spoon and stirring the cider. She was a bit confused by her reaction. She was ashamed of herself but she did feel good about it. The man did deserve to be slapped; he was so rude, mostly so towards Lenoir. She just wished that no one else had been in the kitchen when she had hit Raoul, but she had been too angry to think of that until afterwards.

Ana couldn't believe what she saw and heard. Though she was about to give Raoul Edouard a tongue lashing for his abusive words towards Lenoir. She didn't care for someone being so prejudice but what the red-head did, not even Ana was at that point yet to implant assault upon a person. Self-control was the key of being a good adult at least that is what was told to her years ago by police officers and she took it to heart. Over the years she understood what they meant. And now, seeing from a point of view what they meant, she hoped that some day self-control would be universal.
What ever in the world did this Raoul do to incur the wrath of the red-head?!? Just simply piss her off for being mean towards Lenoir? Ehh, some how that just didn't sit kosher with her. There had to be another reason. Usually it's more person like he did something to her. Or he reminded her of someone she knew who was evil. Realizing that her mouth was agape and closed it she watched Lenoir, Adina, Raoul and Christine silently Standing there watching Adina the majority of the time with a look that not even she could understand what she was feeling. Both pity and annoyed with the red-head perhaps? Shifting her gaze over Christine and Raoul as they would leave, at Lenoir wondering how he was taking all this, and over Adina as she wondered about her sudden temper and if she was ok. Ana could only stand there with one hand on the counter, the other upon her hip with almost a blank stunned look.

If he had been alone in the room with Edouard, certainly Erik would have punched Edouard, his old enemy. The man was really despicable. Worse than Christophe, really. At least Christophe didn't drink. And didn't play cruel jokes on people. And he looked at these women. Two of them had stood up in defense of him, and Lu didn't really know him. He was surprised at Lu. She wasn't obviously well educated, but his heart warmed a bit toward her. He would have to talk to her alone some time. And perhaps he could give her English lessons to make her a bit more understandable. Erik may have not been English or American but he spoke English immensely better that the American who deemed herself from the Territory of Arizona.
Emilie said she would take Edouard away and Erik nodded. Adina stirred the hot cider. "I think it's ready, Adina. There are some mugs in the cupboard. I shall get some. Did all of you wish some cider? Ana? Lucinda? Adina? And Christine, I hope that you will come back and join us. That is of course if your husband gives his approval..." Erik looked hard at the Vicomte. He was so despicable. How could Christine have chosen Edouard over...well, now he had realized it was Mr Y, whom Emilie and Edouard had met years ago, certainly not Erik. Although Mr Y seemed quite a decent fellow, from the small time that Erik had spoken with him.
"Yes, Christine, please take him home. Good afternoon, Monsieur de Chagny. Do have a pleasant day." Erik then turned and went to retrieve the mugs from the cupboard.

Poor Emilie was more than beside herself and on the verge of being ill. This was not the first time she'd dealt with her Husband's drunken situations so she was able to push everything aside to 'clean up the mess'.
Helping her Husband to his feet, having taken back the money that a woman had waved before his face. She tried to offer a gracious smile for returning the money and said a very soft "Thank you". As she was escorting Edouard from the Kitchen she slightly smiled at Lenoir but did not reply to him. She didn't know if she would be able to return to enjoy a little baking party with the other ladies or not. Highly depended upon her Husband. In the pit of her stomach was that usual fear. How much longer must this last? Why did she continue to put herself through this? Why was Raoul like this? She could only pray for him on a daily basis. She could only hope.
"Come, Darling," spoken softly and warmly with a smile as she helped him back to his Suite.
