Slowly enjoying her consummé with a content almost sleepy look then shook her head as the spoon lowered from her elderly withering lips. "No, my dear. Thank you," turning her head to look at Christine with a smile. "It's so good of you to ask. You do take good care of me, my dear." Smiling warmly as a proud mother. Knowing full well that Christine's own mother would have been just as proud.
Looking back at Christine slightly stunned then a little annoyed in that cute elderly scowl that only an old lady could pull off. "Oh, dear," she muttered in disappointment. "Yes. Yes we will have to. Won't we?" Taking another spoon full.
Another odd look at the younger woman after it was mentioned she was missed. Missed? However was she missed? There were no words but the ever present look of confusion on the old woman's face as she continued to take her consummé.
That confused look melted away in the embrace of her adopted daughter that brought a warm motherly smile to her lips as a hand came up to pat and hold gently the youthful arms of Christine. Closing her eyes and smiling, tilting her cheek up a little more for the younger woman and was so delighted to have such a gift of affection from her. Patting Christine's youthful arm again. "I would like that." Then smiling back at the girl as she finished up the bowl and enjoyed the last of her tea. Content with a full belly and with the company of her darling adoptive daughter, life was indeed grand. "Do come and see me again soon, my dear. Make sure Monsieur de Chagny comes to visit me soon, too?" Smiling warmly as she took the girl's hand and patted it. But now Mamma was a little tired and needed some more rest.

Christine could see that her dear, beloved adoptive mother was beginning to grow tired. She smiled warmly when the old woman thanked her. “You are most certainly welcome, Mamma,” she said. “And thank you. Taking care of you is the least I can do for how well you've taken care of me.”
The girl kissed the woman's cheek and then loosened her embrace and pulled back, smiling at her. “I certainly shall come, mummy, and I'll be sure to tell Monsieur de Chagny to as well. You should rest. I'll take away these dishes to the kitchen. You must be exhausted.”

It did not take much to wear the elderly woman down now-a-days. Only proved her age how delicate she'd become and how her time was limited upon this earth. Each day was so very valuable to spend it with the ones she loved. A part of her did worry a little for Christine. For when she was gone, then what ever will happen to the girl? Well, now she had Raoul de Chagny. At least he would be some form of comfort for her; to keep the girl from completely loneliness which often overtook a person when everyone they knew and loved were gone.
Slightly closing her eyes as she felt the youthful lips upon her aged cheek and smiled. Patting Christine's upper arm as her hand curled back around to almost her back. "Thank you, dear," and smiled up at Christine. "I shall look forward to Monsieur de Chagny's visit." Smiling still with a tired look in her eyes. "And I shall expect to see you later? Hmm."

“Of course, Mamma. I'll come whenever you like. In fact, I'll come back in a few hours to check on you, yes?” She smiled fondly at the old woman. She really was infinitely happy to know that she was here and was safe and sound, but unfortunately it couldn't do much to ease her feelings about this place. She didn't know how to begin to try to explain it...
“Rest well, Mamma,” she girl said, standing up and taking the dishes. She headed to the door and then looked back at the old woman, smiling. Perhaps, at least while with Mamma Valérius, things could be like they were before... even if it was only pretending. She was good at pretending.

Smiling at Christine with such an endearing yet tired visage as she sat there in her cozy bed. "Alright, dear," said Mamma with a warm tone and waved slightly by wiggling her fingers all in unison. That girl made the old woman happy in more ways than one. There was indeed no doubt that if Mamma Valerius did have a daughter of her own, she would have been exactly like Christine. With that charming thought, Mamma settled back into the pillows and drifted off to sleep, dreaming of the great North that she missed so much. THE END

As Christine left the room and closed the door behind her, she thought to herself about what her adoptive mother being here would now mean. She would have to keep everything hidden from her for the moment at least, for fear that it might frighten the poor woman to death. She would have to tell Raoul about the delicate situation. Surely he would be more than happy to pay a visit or two to the woman who was to to become his future mother-in-law.
Things were so strange, and so different now. The poor girl no longer knew what she should make of this dreadful place where she and so many others were being held captive. There were strange, dangerous people here. She was beginning to run out of ideas as to how to escape. Now there were three. Now the game had, once again, been changed...
