((In Progress, Note: This letter corresponds to the scene "Round and Round")) À Monsieur le Comte Raoul de Chagny 245 Boulevard Saint-Germaine 75007 Paris, France le 27 ème mars, 1887 Mon cher Raoul,
Avec tout mon cœur et mon esprit,
~ta petite Christine
March 27 th, 1887 My dear Raoul, On the twenty-seventh of March, I once again made my way to the Library after hearing sporadic bits of piano music, and came upon a most gruesome sight. There was a man who had cut his hand so that it was covered in blood and a swarm or rats around a saucer on the floor. I do not mind mind the occasional mouse, but a whole swarm of rats... And one of them was sitting on his head! When I entered the room, he rushed upon me and seized my hair, studying it, and then before I could tell what was going on, he grabbed me, threw me over his shoulder, and carried me off underground. Needless to say, I was quite shocked and frightened. He threw me on the ground and pulled out a knife and demanded my name. Needless to say, I was quite frightened by the whole thing. I told him my name, of course, but now that I reflect back, I am not so sure that it was the wisest thing to do, for apparently he had met one of the impostor Christines previously (likely that rude blonde one) and mistook me for her. He started running his hands all over my body, and pulling out bits of my hair, and I was so frightened i tried to run away, but he would not let me. ... With all of my heart and my mind, ~your little Christine

À Monsieur le Comte Raoul de Chagny 245 Boulevard Saint-Germaine Paris, France, 75007 le 4 ème avril, 1887 Mon char amant Raoul, Je t'aime, ~ta petite Christine
April 4 th, 1887 My dear lover Raoul, He is here! Érik. He found me today... though I must say that under the given circumstances, I was quite glad to see him. I was still with that dreaded man with the rats. He had gone out for the moment, and I was alone in his abode, when I cried out, hoping that someone would hear me and take me away from there... This was when Érik found me... I was cold, and hungry, tired, alone, and scared, and I am sorry if you feel that I have betrayed you in any way at all, but I could not stay there. It was far safer to go with Érik. He took me from that horrid place and down a seemingly never-ending spiral staircase until we came upon a door with the numbers 1911. It seems rather silly if you ask me, to have addresses on doors going underground in a sort of cellar, but there they were, every door we passed numbered. The one that I had come from, where the king of rats lived, was 1998. We passed a 1990, 1925, 1943... not in that order, but just to give you an idea. When Érik opened door 1911 I was a little shocked to see that, inside was the house on the lake! Granted, I should not have been so shocked, considering the fact that this was Érik's bidding to begin with and he would not likely leave the opera without at least some of the comforts of home. He was quite cordial in having me there, though I do wish that he would refrain from using pet names with me. He provided me with fresh clothing, allowed me time to clean myself up, prepared me something to eat... He was as courteous and respectful as he has ever been, which (though it should not have so much) baffled me a bit. ---- I love you, ~your little Christine

À Monsieur le Comte Raoul de Chagny 245 Boulevard Saint-Germaine 75007, Paris, France le 6 ème avril, 1887 Mon cher Raoul,
Avec tout mon cœur,
~ta petite Christine
April 6 th, 1887 My dear Raoul, I managed to escape from Érik... for the time being at least. I was running away, running as fast as I could, until I collapsed on the floor in the kitchen, where I saw the 'Christine de Chagny' I met around a week and a half ago. She had a cookbook out and was preparing to make something, but came to assist me when she found me in such distress. Oh, Raoul, I do not know how much time you have left, or if you left already on the expedition to the North Pole and I have absolutely nothing to be concerned about, but it worries me so very much. It was as I was explaining this worry to the older Christine that the rude blonde one I told you about before entered the room, seemingly also in a distraught nature, although I couldn't imagine why. Nothing that she said made sense at all, and her emotions seemed to change suddenly from weeping into a giggly mess. People baffle me sometimes, dear.... She did not fail though to show her notoriously rude nature to me. The older Christine had tossed some flour at me ( I suspect in jest) and I made it quite clear to her that I was in no mood at all for such games. However, immediately after this, the rude blonde one came up to me with an entire canister of flour and dumped it over my head. At that point, I snapped, Raoul. I was too upset to stay there any longer. While the other two woman continued on with their baking, I left. I cannot bear this separation much longer, Raoul. I know right now that if you have not left on your ship, you are likely already dead or awaiting soon execution. It has been far too long, dear, and I'm so frightened -- frightened that I shall never see you again. The visions of you and the guillotine will not go away, and they are driving me mad, dear! Utterly mad! I cannot possibly keep seeing them. They are far too real. Please promise me, Raoul. Promise me that I shall never have to witness you being executed like that for crimes of which you are completely innocent. I cannot bear it, Raoul! I simply cannot! And I cannot escape the visions either. they are there when I am asleep or awake, alone or with others... and every single time the same thing! Oh, make it stop! Make it stop! Frankly, I do not even know why I am writing this to you. I know that you cannot possibly receive it. For all I know, you are already dead... Cold, pale, lifeless... Raoul, promise me that if I cannot see you again in this life, we will meet again some how in the afterlife. I cannot go on seeing these images wherever I go. I cannot go on living with the uncertainty of whether or not the man I love and cherish more than anything or anyone else in this world could be lost forever. Sometimes, when I am alone, I think that I see your face in the shadows, or hear your voice in the silence. I imagine that I'm there in your arms again, like when we were in the rooftop, surrounded by Paris and its skies. I miss you so much, dear, far more than I have ever expected before. I cannot do this again! We have been parted far too many times for me to be able to handle having my heart shattered with one final crushing blow as we are parted by eternity. Please, Raoul! Please come to me. No, don't come. Go on your expedition. But you can't go now, you can't! It has already left. And you cannot go if you are dead. and you are already dead... and I am am dead with you. Your bride in eternity, ~Christine

My love,
Oh, it delights me so to know that you are here with me, to know that you are alive and well and relatively safe. You have read my previous letters already, but I feel the need to continue writing to you. you know that I enjoy writing to you so, and to be quite honest, these letter to you were probably the only thing that kept me sane enough to wait for as long as I did.
I think it only appropriate to continue writing to you, don't you agree? Perhaps I shall hide the letters about and you can go find them. We shall make a game of it like the games we used to play together back on the beach at Perros-Guirec, or at your aunt's estate in Lannion.
I love you,
~ your little fiancée, Christine
