Quelf (Rules and Game Workings Explained)
OKAY! So I thought it might be fun for any characters interested to play a rather out-there random game called “Quelf” that involves doing/saying ridiculous things that would definitely put the majority of them out of their comfort zones at least once. The game is technically for adults, but it should be fine for teens as well, so the only one who really can’t play is Gustave and maybe Luciana. Roselin should be fine. I’ll post all of the rules, as well as all of the resources needed and explain how we can have the characters play the game in this thread.
Please remember that most of this playing between the characters is based on integrity, so please play fair and don’t lie about what they could do in a given time limit, or what the die role was. All characters have an equal opportunity to win. Also, if your character has never heard of something on one of the cards, please do not power play and act like they do, or suddenly come up with some random circumstance where they knew beforehand. Please no internet searches unless they are to look up something that your character WOULD have known, but YOU do not. It takes the fun out of playing if everyone knows everything. After all, no one likes a Mary-Sue, so don’t try to make your character perfect and end up becoming one.
RULES:
(as stated in the rule booklet that comes with the game)
PLAYER GUIDE
CONTENTS:
OBJECT OF THE GAME
TO HAVE FUN! DUH!
Why Else would you play a board game? Your goal is to be the first player to get to the final space on the path. To move ahead and win, just follow one simple rule: OBEY THE CARD. More on that below.
SETTING UP THE GAME
Shuffle each deck of cards and place them in an easy-to-reach place near the game board. Keep the die, timer, pencil and paper handy. Each player chooses a mover and places it on the “Start” space. Roll the die to determine who goes first. The player with the highest roll goes first; play proceeds to the left (clockwise).
IT’S EASY TO START PLAYING QUELF!
WINNING THE GAME
The first player to reach the finish space and complete a final Scatterbrainz question wins. But the final question is a little harder: You have to give TWO answers while everyone else gives only ONE. If you complete the card without having to take the penalty, congratulations – you have won the game!
3-8 Players or teams. Adult.
ABOUT THOSE CARDS
JUST READ EACH CARD ALOUD AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. YEAH, IT’S THAT SIMPLE.
TIMES CARDS:
When a card is a “Timed” Card,” use the timer to time your task. Start the timer after you have finished reading the card.
CLASSIFIED CARDS:
When you draw a “Classified Card,” read the card silently to yourself. When you have completed the card, discard the card without anyone else seeing it.
SPECIAL RULES:
Some Cards have a Special Rule. Sometimes it’s an explanation how the card works. Sometimes it’s a bonus question or additional effect of the card. Just OBEY THE CARD and you’ll be fine.
PENALTY:
Every card has a penalty number. Move backwards that number of spaces if you can’t successfully complete the card or if you get the card’s answer wrong.
REMEMBER: SAFETY FIRST!
If you feel that you cannot SAFELY follow the instructions on a card, use your common sense and just pick another card. There is no penalty if you cannot SAFELY complete a card.
WHAT’S UP WITH ALL THESE CARDS???
KEEP THIS SHEET HANDY WHILE YOU PLAY THE GAME
(blue cards)ROOLZ
When you draw a ROOLZ card, the effect of that card doesn’t just last for your turn – it may last for the remainder of the game! Roolz cards are “rules” that you must follow as long as the card is in play, or else pay that card’s penalty. There are 3 types of Roolz cards:
GLOBAL ROOLZ affect ALL players. If you draw one, put it in the center of the game board; ALL players must obey the rule at ALL TIMES or else pay the penalty. There can only be one Global Roolz card in play at a time, so each time you draw a new Global Roolz card, discard the existing one.
TALKING ROOLZ affect only the player who drew the card. Each player can only have one Talking Roolz card in play at any given time. Put the Talking Roolz card in play in front of you as a reminder for everyone. If you get caught not following the rule, pay the penalty, but keep the card in play!
ACTION ROOLZ affect only the player who drew the card. Each Player can have only one Action Roolz card in play at any given time. Put the Action Roolz card in play in front of you as a reminder for everyone. If you get caught not following the rule, pay the penalty, but keep the card in play!
A COUPLE NOTES ABOUT ROOLZ CARDS
(green cards)QUIZZLE
QUIZZLE is a trivia category with questions ranging from the obvious to the impossible. The opponent to your right draws the card and reads the question to you. If you guess the answer correctly, you avoid the penalty!
Many Quizzle cards feature an Extra Credit Question. Regardless of whether you got the first question right or wrong, you can try to answer the Extra Credit Question. If you get it right, move ahead one space!
(yellow cards)STUNTZ & SHOWBIZ (purple cards)
STUNTS cards will keep you on your toes… literally! Have you ever balanced a shoe on your head? How long can you go without blinking? Have you always wanted to sit underneath the kitchen? Well, now’s your chance!
SHOWBIZ cards put the spotlight on you! You’ll have to sing, dance, act, do impressions, mime, write poetry, and anything else we find entertaining.
Note: If mimes scare you, Quelf might not be the game for you.
A FEW NOTES ABOUT STUNTZ & SHOWBIZ CARDS
(red cards)SCATTERBRAINZ
In SCATTERBRAINZ, everyone gets to play! When you draw a Scatterbrainz card, choose a topic (if you’re given a choice) like “Types of Fish” or “Brands of Lipstick.” Each player must give a valid answer, starting with you and proceeding to the left around the game board.
THIS CONTINUES UNTIL
The Player that fails to keep the round going pays the penalty.
Here are some examples of what the Quelf Cards look like/say:

Dice Roller
(please set to six-sided dice, number of dice to roll = 1, Number of rolls = 1)
30 second timer
pixlr.com
Please hit "advanced" option and then “Create New” of you need to “doodle” and don’t have paint on your computer, and have to use another program, such as pixlr, instead. Please upload your image to a site such as tumblr or photoucket so that you may post it along with your post if applicable.
(please try to keep within the time limit stated on the card if it’s a timed thing)
OKAY! So the way that this will work is if it’s your character’s turn, you’ll roll the dice and then PM me what you roll, then I’ll move your piece and tell you what color you landed on and what card you ended up drawing in a reply PM. You can then take it from there to play out your character’s turn.
If your character has to do something for 30 seconds and then the other players have to guess. Please play out the whole thirty seconds and then the other players will guess afterward.
Please remember that your character is to STATE what the card says UNLESS the card says that it’s classified. If the card is classified, do not put anywhere in your character’s post what the card says. Only state that it says it’s classified.
I will also, in the PM, send you a mini game board picture with the position of all of the different colored movers on it. For the sake of keeping everybody up on where the pieces are, please post this picture at the top of your post in your turn, before posting any active Roolz cards.
If a “roolz” card is in play, please fill out the following card and put it at the beginning of your post, represent the character having the card in front of them. Remember to do this for Global Rules as well as your character’s individual rules. You are NOT required to put up other characters rules in your post. If, after a character takes their turn, but before the next character takes their turn, you notice that a character did not follow a rule on their card, you may do a quick 2 paragraph post to have your character call the other character out and make them pay the penalty. Your character may choose to ignore their breaking the rule if you wish. Please do not power play your character to have them notice the breaking of the rule if they wouldn’t have noticed it before (i.e. if they were outside of the room or busy talking to another character).
If the global rule is that everyone must say or do something when a certain event happens, you may post a one liner to have your character quickly say or do it whenever applicable. Everyone playing must post to have their character say/do the global rule that’s tied to an event when it happens. The last character to post the action or saying in response to the event it relateds to, pays the penalty on the card.

A COUPLE NOTES ABOUT ROOLZ CARDS
- If you fail to follow a Roolz card and nobody notices, you just got away with it! Keep an eye on the other players’ Roolz cards to make sure they’re following them.
- If at any time during the game you want to get rid of all your Roolz cards, you may return to the “Start” space, discard your Roolz cards, and start again.
(green cards)QUIZZLE

Note: If mimes scare you, Quelf might not be the game for you.
A FEW NOTES ABOUT STUNTZ & SHOWBIZ CARDS
- If a card tells you to “Tell The Other Players To Guess,” then you must get them to guess the text on the card before the timer expires.
- If a card tells you to do something that conflicts with a rule you have in play, ignore the rule until you are done with the card’s activity.
- If a card mentions an item that you don’t have near you (i.e., Table, Shoes, Hat, Sunglasses, Mirror, Fan, etc.), then improvise! Need a string for a card but don’t have any? How about shoe laces? If you can’t come up with an alternative item, then you may draw another card.
- Above all, play safe! Some Showbiz and Stuntz cards may require physical activity. If you are unable to safely perform what the card says you may draw another card.

- A Player can’t think of a Valid Answer;
- A Player gives an answer that’s already been said;
- A player takes more than 10 seconds (or so) to give a valid answer.
The Player that fails to keep the round going pays the penalty.
