It was January, and while the weather was cold, it was not cold enough to prevent the zoo in the village from keeping its gates open to children and adults alike who wished to come visit the various animals there. Now granted, there were certain beasts that remained indoors, in barns and such, who were not suited well enough for the cooler weather that came in the winter. Either way, the various zoo handlers were still busy at work, caring for the multitude of creatures that the place held. One of those keepers was none other than the recently married Raoul de Chagny.
His wife, Christine, was in the kitchen back at the manor, with a satchel on the counter that she was filling with various good things to eat: a small wedge of cheese, some fresh baked buns, a pear, a thermos of bouillabaisse, and a little flask she filled with some nice chardonnay to go with the fish… and because it was a celebratory occasion. Taking the satchel off food, as well as a little bit of money she knew she would need for zoo admission, and then headed out toward the village.
She was dressed in a white long sleeved period dress with lace ruffling along the openings of the sleeves and a matching white hooded cape with lace along the edges. She had her hair mostly up in a braid which circled her head like a wreath, with a few loose ringlets still hanging down her back. She wore a pair of white gloves to keep her hands warm, but did not wear any jewelry, other than her rings which she had on over her gloves.
When she arrived in the village zoo, she took a deep breath and looked around. The village itself still frightened her greatly, but this was a special occasion. She supposed it couldn’t hurt to venture out just this once to tell him the news. After all, she couldn’t wait to see the look on his face… She got more than one strange look from passersby, but she tried to ignore them. She still didn’t find their attire appropriate, and while it may be perfectly fine for anyone from their time, Christine did not intend to take any part in it.
It wasn’t long before she was able to spot him, and her eyes lit up, a smile coming to her face as she quietly went up behind him and tapped his shoulder. “Hello, dear. Is it a good day so far?”
