Okay, so I have an audition coming up on the 7th in NYC. It's a chorus call for POTO (Broadway and Touring Productions), and I'm kind of at a loss right now for which pieces I should prepare for my audition. I have 6 possible pieces I'm trying to choose between, but need to have an idea of which ones to prepare very soon (like within the next couple days) so that I can have them ready for the audition.
I need to have 2 pieces prepared, with both a 32 bar and a 16 bar cut from each. The pieces should be able to do the following:
~Show vocal range
~show vocal color and tessiatura
~show vocal flexibility
~show vocal line
~show technique
~show breath support and control
~show dramatic capability and potential
~Show and sell characterization
~show diction
~Show sensitivity for dramatic context
~show understanding and comprehension of the song in context of its plot
etc.
Anyway, please do not go and ask me which song I am most comfortable with. I specifically don't want too be TOO comfortable with my song, otherwise it won't be as fresh. I want to do whichever song would be BEST for the audition, even if it is not the one with which I am the most comfortable. Please note that the style of audition means that each of these will have to be done as a stand and sing.
Here are the links and descriptions of every song which is an option:
1.) "Glitter and be Gay" from Candide: Natalie Dessay Kristen Chenowith (character=Cunégonde)
2.) "Home" from Phantom: Ashley Green (character=Christine Daaé)
3.) "Love Never Dies" from Love Never Dies: Sierra Boggess Anna O'Byrne (character= Christine de Chagny)
4.) "Sorry Her Lot" from H.M.S. Pinafore: I'm not sure who this is (character=Josephine)
5.) "Poor Wand'ring One" from Pirates of Penzance: Helen Donaldson (character=Mabel)
6.) "If I Were on the Stage" from Kiss Me Again: Elizabeth Parcells (character=Fifi)
