Carlotta leaned on Erik, but when she touched his cold hands she flinched a bit. But then she held on. They walked the long aisle of the Opera House and Erik held the door open at the back for her. Then they started the long trek to the kitchen. It was several long hallways away, and up a set of steps. Unfortunately, the only life in the mansion was for the use of the Phantoms, for it only went to their lairs and the main floor. But then Erik stopped. He had been wrong. He stared ahead of them and lo and behold, there was a different lift. He had been through this way hundreds of times as he walked through the manor, but he had never seen this lift before. Apparently another one of the ghost's little games to confuse the residents of the manor. He sighed.
Mademoiselle Carlotta, have you ever been in a lift before? It's not frightening. It's run by electricity and will save you the trouble of walking up the steps. I say this because several of the other residents hae been frightened of the lifts. I assure you I have used the lift before and thre is nothing frightening about it.
He walked her slowly to the lift, which looked like a split pocket door. There were two white buttons on the wall next to it and he pushed the one which read UP. There was a low whir of machinery and in a moment the doors opened to reveal a small room behind it. "Come now, it's perfectly safe," said Erik as he walked with her toward the little room. He held his arm at the place where the doors had disappeared into the pocket and waited till she would enter.

Carlotta glanced at the masked man when he had stopped. She was about to ask him why when he had asked her if she had ever been in a lift before. He reassured her about it some and she looked at what he called a lift. Yes, she had been in a lift a few times, but not in a while. She nodded slightly and watched as he pressed the button that read Up then kept the doors open when the opened to a small room by themselves.
Carlotta hesitated for a moment, observing it for a moment. But then reassured herself in a strict tone in her voice and lifted her chin up and nodded and walked into the lift. "I warn you though... if this thing starts or ends to hard, I might loose it. Lo cual no sería en su mejor interés." She warned. The lift then started to go up and it wasn't to bad, or at least it didn't do anything to her stomach. While the were moving up, she decided to finally ask him an rather obvious question. "What is your name? No creo que capté su nombre antes.

"Yes, I sincerely hope that you will not have an...accident in the lift. I have not used this one before, but the other one is quite steady and runs smoothly." She mentioned that she had been in lifts before. "Well, you are more experienced then, than some of the others I have taken about the mansion."
Carlotta entered the lift with a determined look. The lift rose smoothly and Carlotta asked what his name was. "Lenoir, Erik Lenoir, late of Paris." I miss Paris very much. And yet, I expect that it's better that I am not there. At least now." He realized that he may have said something that would make Carlotta wonder. He was talking about the fact that the police were after him in Paris and should they have caught him, he would probably be a dead man for his crimes.
"And I know by your voice....that you are a Carlotta, but do you have a surname? I know another Carlotta...and sorry to day but she sounds worse than you do."
The lift came to a stop and the door opened. Erik waitted for Carlotta to leave the lift and then he followed her. "It's down this hallway and around the corner."

Carlotta listened to Lenoir introduce himself. He too was from Paris and he told her of how he missed it though it was better that he wasn't there. "I miss my audience, though I am sure some of the staff of the opera house am glad that I am not there." She said pouting, and thinking nothing of what he almost could have revealed.
He then continued to speak by saying that he knew her by her voice, then asked for a surname. "Well... I suppose Corazon... Carlotta Corazon. And I have met another Carlotta here as well... and I wouldn't doubt if her voice sounded like un alma en pena." She said in a huff. That meeting was quite the eventful one, along with being rather unpleasant and... physical. Carlotta gladly got off of the lift first and nodded when he said it was down the hall and around the corner. She still let him lead the way.

Erik offered his arm to Carlotta as they exited the lift.. She was not quite as unpleasant as the other Carlotta he had met. Of course he had known the other one from before, from the opera house in Paris. She was the one who had made his life miserable with her atrocious voice, horrid acting and arrogant nature. She who thought she could sing better than anyone. This ones voice didn't please him either, and he hoped she would not insist on singing on his stage. But that was an argument for another day.
Having done one of the worst things anyone could do to Erik, namely ripping off his mask, Carlotta seemed truly sorry. And because of that, his heart was softened toward her. "The dining room and kitchen are just down this way, Senorita," he said. Perhaps the unmasking had been a good thing and would make her less antagonistic toward him in the future.
"So you have met the other Carlotta." He smirked. "How did the two of you get along? I am sure it was friendship at first sight." He couldn't stop smirking at the thought of two Carlottas at each other's throats. It must have been a sight to see. Of course, perhaps they did get along, but he was sure that wasn't what had happened.
Finally reaching the dining room and kitchen, Erik held the large wooden door for her. The beautiful dining room was dark until Erik flipped the electric switch which immediately lit the chandelier and showed the warm cosy room. It was a bit chilly at the moment. "Let me light the fireplace so you are not chilled." In fact Erik was a bit chilly himself, for he was nearly always cold. After the situation in the opera house, he had sweated profusely with the emotion of it, but now he was back to being cold. He opened the damper and started a fire and soon it was crackling and starting to make the room warm. He pushed closed the metal fire gates and stood up again.
"I know just the remedy for your stomach, my dear lady. And is there anything else I can bring you? There is all sorts of food in the kitchen which can be prepared..."

Carlotta took his arm and let him lead on. Now that she thought about it.... she was glad she ripped off the mask. Even if it had scared her for life. But now no longer would she be tempted to take the mask off.... or any other masks. And truth be told, she might actually think twice before going to a masquerade, now questioning on who was actually behind the mask.
He then asked about the meeting between the other Carlotta and herself. She laughed, hanging her head down some. "To put it plainly.... I believe we pulverized each other and our prides for that day. Fuego contra fuego sólo hace un fuego más grande." She chuckled. They had literally smacked each other around till both of their cheeks were bright pink. It took a bit of time before the sting finally went away from her face.
She had been to the dining room a few times before, in fact, she had met Alfred, a man servant of the Vicomte de Chagny in the room. Carlotta had always enjoyed the mood of the room, it reminded her of the dining room at her parents house, though of course, they had more of a Hispanic flair thrown into the mixture. He then said that he wished the light the fire, feeling that it was chilly. She hadn't even realized it till he said it. "Oh yes... gracias." She said and sat down at the table. He then asked if there was anything besides the stomach remedy that she wished for. "No, your remedy will be fine, gracias." She said, putting one arm around her stomach.

Erik actually laughed heartily at Carlotta's explanation of her encounter with the other Carlotta and how they had smacked each other about. "It must have been quite the scene," he said, in a definite understatement. "I shall be but a moment, Senorita," he said. "The remedy will not take long to make."
Erik retired to the kitchen to make the remedy. He found the ingredients, including ginger and lemon balm and several others, to make a good-tasting and soothing tea. He boiled the water on the gas stove and made a pot of the tea, steeping it just the correct amount of time. He made himself some green tea in another tea ball and steeped that for a bit also. He brought out the tea cup and saucer and the tea pot of remedy tea for Carlotta, then fetched his own cup from the kitchen. He sat down next to her. "There are several cups of tea in the pot, and if you drink it all, I expect you will be feeling better soon. The taste is quite pleasant."

Carlotta tried to clear her mind and just focus on the smell of tea that was quickly becoming stronger and did smell quite good. But she couldn't help but to think... there were others running about with faces like that? Or at least, that was what Lenoir seemed to make it sound like. And if that was the case, God help them all.
Of course, the Ballet rats were always muttering something about death's head and a phantom.... strange things did happen too but she had always shrugged it off as such nonsense. She sighed and was relieved when the tea was finally finished. Carlotta nodded when Lenoir told her she would feel much better if she were to drink all of it and that it would taste good. She poured some into her own tea cup for herself and let it cool for a moment before she began to drink.
She didn't like it at first taste, perhaps it was the fact that it was meant to make her feel better, she never liked the sound of medicine as a child, but then after another sip it did taste significantly better. "Gracias." Carlotta said then paused for a moment, drinking more here and there. "Tell me more about the residents of the manor... I know there are.... multiples of Christines, Carlottas, and other such people. Does that mean there are more people.... like you?" She asked, quickly drinking some more since the thought of someone with such a face had been behind such strange events in her own opera house.

It was clear that Carlotta was disturbed by Erik's face, but that was the precise reason he wore a mask. What did she think it was for? He would never look normal, but at least he was passable with the mask and didn't frighten the hell out of everyone. It did foster curiosity though. He wondered if she had ever seen her own Phantom's face. He suspected she hadn't, but neither had Lenoir seen that fellow's face. He wore a full face mask, and even Erik, who disdained all curiosity about his own face did have a modicum of interest in knowing what the other Phantoms really looked like.
Erik noticed that Carlotta had quite the overly dramatic way about her. Several things he said had made her roll her eyes. On the stage, the overly dramatic gestures and acting were some of the things that annoyed him about the other Carlotta, in addition to her voice. This one shared those tendencies, but she seemed to have a bit of humour about her. She seemed not to really be a bad sort.....as long as she didn't sing.
Drinking his tea, Erik watched her. She wasn't a bad looking woman at all. In fact, she was pretty, although not in the same way as the Christines. She sipped her tea and then poured another cupful. "Are you feeling a bit better?" he asked, confident that it would help her.
Then Carlotta asked about the residents of the manor. She was especially curious as to why there were multiple Christines, and others. She seemed extremely interested to find out if there were more people like him....meaning Lenoir.
"It's true there are many people named Christine, Carlotta, Raoul and Erik. It's strange and I have no answer for that, unfortunately. But it fascinates me as well. Each name seems to bring with it certain characteristics of sameness, yet each person is also different from the others in many ways. Just as I was able to discern that you were a Carlotta, from your basic characteristics, you also have shown me that you are indeed different. Although I know of only two other Carlottas....one who was here only a very short time and one....who I knew from before I came to this place."
Then he narrowed his eyes a bit and gazed intensely at her. "More people like me? You mean horrifically ugly men whose ugliness makes you want to vomit?" He paused and looked away. "I, myself, have never seen the face of another Phantom. Perhaps some are of lesser ugliness and some much more than I. However, because all of us wear masks and have so much in common, I dare say, they all have a secret of a horrific nature. And yes, there are quite a few of us. Spectre, Castagne, Destler, Carrière, myself, Lavalais, Revenant, Gauthier and a fellow who calls himself Mr Y and of all things, says he used to be called Lenoir many years ago. He's undoubtedly quite mad in addition to being the only other one in the house who wears a half mask, one exactly like mine...." Erik had wondered at that. Could there be more of a connection between Y and himself than of the others? He had no answer and hadn't spoken much to the other half-masked Phantom. "There may be others. We appear here mysteriously and sometimes disappear just as mysteriously, to what place, I cannot say."

Carlotta listened quietly, sipping her tea and then playing a bit with her earrings between each sip. Ha! She having similar characteristics of that other woman! There was absolutely nothing similar between them besides the fact that they unfortunately seemed to share the same name!
She shrugged off the sharp tone and almost dark stare the masked man gave her when he spoke of the others like himself. He then went on to list that they all seemed to hide some sort of horrific disfigurement and listed at least eight that he knew, not including himself! She swallowed hard and continued to hastily drink her tea for a moment. She was glad that she didn't recognize any of the names, but then again, she hadn't even known that she might have... an Erik?
Lenoir rambled slightly on some other half masked man to which Carlotta completely ignored, not really interested in listening about some other masked man that seemed to share more similarities than any of the other phantoms. When all was silent, she drank for a little more before speaking again. "So... since there is so many Carlottas... Christines.... Phantoms..... does that mean that there could quite possibly be one... a phantom I mean... that frequently went to my opera house?" She asked, disturbed by the thought and continued to drink only taking a breath for a moment to comment quietly. "Si, the tea is helping quite a bit, thank you."

Lenoir's opinion of Carlotta was that the woman had a voice like a bean sí, the wailing Irish spectre and omen of death. However, there was something about her, when she wasn't singing, that was rather likable. Quite an absurd thought, that, a Phantom liking anything about a Carlotta. Of course Lenoir was not the typical Phantom, if there was such a thing. He was rather his own fellow.
Lenoir sipped more of his tea. He was drawn to Carlotta because she was fascinating. A little bit arrogant and quite self confident. Her own woman, certainly. She reminded him of himself in a way. And they both had one very terrifying and horrible thing about them. With Lenoir it was his face. With Carlotta, her horrible and blood curdling singing voice. At least Erik kept his face under a mask so he didn't horrify everyone....
Carlotta politely listened as Lenoir detailed the various people who lived in the mansion. Or maybe it was not so politely. She shrugged a bit and seemed indifferent. But then she asked, does that mean that there could quite possibly be one... a phantom I mean... that frequently went to my opera house? Lenoir smiled darkly. "I am afraid it does mean exactly that, my dear."
Lenoir gazed at her pleasant features and smiled. He might become friends with her, if things went well. Or perhaps not. He did like her, oddly enough. However, there was no way in hell that she would bloody sing in Lenoir's opera house!
She mentioned that the tea was helping quite a bit. He smiled. "I'm glad." And then he thought that it was quite fortunate that Carlotta twas not singing on his stage tonight, for the tea would then have been for quite a different purpose...to create a toad-like voice, perhaps?
