"I am delighted that you would consider singing for us. Perhaps we won't tell them you are a ghost. Then the things you would do, being so light on your feet, would just make it all the more fantastic."
"Please don't apologise for not staying in your more corporeal form. I am sure it will happen again. And I enjoy being with you in any form." He smiled and walked down the steps from the stage and entered the orchestra pit and sat down at the piano. He played a bit to test whether the piano was still in tune. He knew one of the other Eriks had spent a considerable amount of time tuning most of the pianos in the mansion and refurhishing them. This one sounded perfect.
"I should like to play a song that I sang for my Christine. It seemed to enchant her. I believe she liked it very much." It was true. The song "Music of the Night" had enchanted Svenna, but it was more than the song. It was his voice that had enchanted her. The song had told Christine how he felt about her and how she was the inspiration for his compositions. He then sang an aria from "The Magic Flute." He himself became caught up in the music and his surroundings almost disappeared. He closed his eyes as he played and sang. There was only Erik and his hands on the piano and the sound of the music that existed... nothing else.
When Erik finished, he opened his eyes and it took him a moment to come back to reality. He remembered Olivia and saw her still there. The music had relaxed him and soothed him so that he felt renewed. He smiled at the ghost, but he said nothing, for words could not express what he felt about the music.

"I would, however, love to stay in that form... It makes me feel alive again, but I know it can't happen. But I really thank you for letting me live- -for lack of a better word- the experience. I felt real again, i felt like I was finally myself." Olivia explained, smiling gently at him and offering a slight nod.
She followed him to the piano and as soon as he started playing, she was entranced. She had never heard such beautiful music. For a moment, she thought she was going to materialize again, but she didn't. Then he sang the aria and her soul seemed to be fulfilled.
"Oh my..." Olivia muttered when he finished. "That was... breathtakingly beautiful, Mr. Lenoir... Brava!"

Erik was happy with her praise of his voice. He smiled, loving the compliment Olivia gave him about his voice. His voice was his pride and joy. He loved music and singing, and it made up for the fact that he was ugly and couldn't interact with people in the way most people did. His speakinig voice was beautiful too, and that was the main reason Erik had taught Christine from behind her mirror. But however, in this mansion, where many of the residents were deformed people or ghosts, it was easier to interact.
Olivia seemed so happy to have had a short time of being human again and she wished that it could be permanent. "There will be other times, Livy," he said. "And you must revel in them and remember them." He smiled at her, sorry that she was not alive, but happy that she could communicate with him. "Your dancing was lovely and I know it will happen again. Perhaps," Here Erik became thoughtful..."Perhaps it might happen again if you dance and sing upon the stage when we hold our shows. I would be so pleased to see you be able to be alive again for a time. But, even though you are not technically alive now, I do enjoy your ghostly presence."
"The refurbishing of the opera house should start very soon. Materials have been purchased and workmen have been hired. I expect it will not be too long before our stage will be beautiful and ring with wonderful music and acting again." Erik truly hoped the lovely ghost would be able to join them.
