Raoul nodded a bit when the older man suggested that they simply look at the pool. “I do wonder what it is he was talking about, monsieur. I didn’t see anything in the water, but then again, I was unconscious. And if I was unconscious then who is to say I couldn’t have died?” He thought his being unconscious was due to the encounter in the depths of the opera house, but now he wasn’t even sure.
“If there is something…I would like to know what it is…” he added, rubbing his chin. If Erik indeed was behind this scheme, it could have just been another plot to kill him. Christine’s next words simply echoed his thoughts, and she asked him not to return to the pool. He turned around and faltered at the expression of terror on her face. A lump formed in his throat when she mentioned his brother’s death and he nodded, blinking back tears. “You’re right, my dearest.” He then looked at Edouard again. “Perhaps this is something that should be left alone—he had the lake beneath the Opera Garnier booby-trapped. This could be something similar, and it wouldn’t be wise to gamble your life out of curiosity.”

Edouard looked a bit puzzled. "Why on earth would your Erik put a dangerous thing in a swimming pool? I am afraid I don't understand that at all. You say it's a Siren? What exactly is that? Some type of mermaid? If it is some dangerous being, I will not of course go there with my son, but it couldn't hurt for me to just take a look from a distance. I wouldn't swim there myself if it were dangerous. Perhaps there is another place to swim near the mansion."
Edouard listened as Christine admonished him not to go there and cited her fiancé's word a s a reason for that. Edouard nodded, looking at the young de Chagny. "Yes. of course; I did not mean to disparage your word. I am sure you are correct."
nodding in de Chagny's direction, Edouard went on, "And you were unconscious. It must have been a frightening experience. Did you wake up in the water? Do you have any remembrance of what the thing was that attacked you?" Edouard realized that Christine was just looking out for her fiancé and she seemed quite terrified as to the thought of that thing in the water. She seemed also to be concerned for Edouard, which was very sweet. Christine also mentioned the young de Chagny's brother as having died...Edouard wondered if it was at the hands of this strange beast in the pool water. Christine looked quite terrified about that...
And young de Chagny admonished Edouard not to risk his life going there out of curiosity. Edouard nodded. There was no sense in doing that.

Christine gave a firm nod and rested her head on Raoul's arm when he conceded not to return to the lake. She was greatly relieved to hear that she would not have to worry about losing him in the same way that his brother had died – to some strange underwater phenomena likely controlled by Érik..
The way that Érik spoke of his lake often terrified Christine, especially whenever he spoke of something he called the Siren... It was a menacing tone whenever this Siren of his was mentioned, and Christine didn't like it one bit. Always that electric bell, and then his sinister chuckle. 'I am going to tell the Siren to open the door...
