“A cello player? Well that is quite interesting. Is it very difficult? I cannot say that I have ever played a cello myself, but I do play the violin. My father taught me how when I was little.”
It was another thing which she shared with her dear, sweet Raoul. It was something that her father had taught to both of them. Granted, she had started at a much younger age than he, but they learned from the same teacher; and he was the best teacher that she could ever hope to ask for.
“Yes, I am a singer primarily, Monsieur,” she said, nodding a little. “But how did you suspect as much?” She certainly had not mentioned it, so she wondered how this man could have known. Unless they were not so far from Paris as they had assumed. If that were the case, then it was quite possible that he had heard of her before.... “I am a lyric coloratura soprano and sing at the Opéra Garnier...”

Thomas smiled. "It's hard for me to say whether it is hard or not, Mademoiselle. When I began it was very difficult, but now it comes more easily. I suppose it would be less difficult for you to learn because you can already play a string instrument, but others without the experience would face the same learning curve I had to."
Noticing Chrisitne's confusion at him knowing that she was a singer without ever being told, he thought quickly of what to say, something plausible that would not confuse her any further.
"Oh, it is nothing really," He saud sheepishly, "I just assumed you were a singer becasue you brought it up rather quickly when you asked me what I did. I'm sure you are quite a lovely singer mademoiselle. The Garnier...was - is honoured to have you." Thomas winced at his missteps, hoping she wouldn't notice.

“I suppose you have an excellent point, Monsieur Boehm. I've heard that learning other instruments is much easier after you are already acquainted with another instrument of similar style. For instance, I've heard that the bassoon and the clarinet are quite similar in fingerings, although I would not know, as I play neither of the two...”
Christine couldn't help a soft chuckle at the man's seemingly sheepish nature. “I did, didn't I?” She laughed again at the face he pulled, presumably at the 'was' he had said before quickly correcting himself to 'is'. “Oh, that's perfectly all right, Monsieur. I am retiring actually. My fiancé and I were planning to leave Paris and to retire after we were married...” Here, she could not help her expression falling a little. “That is, if we are ever married now....”

Thomas smiled. Oh, if she only knew he thought to himself, pondering over all the bits and pieces that had been added over the years to Leroux's story.
"I certainly wish you two the best then. But be careful maidemoiselle. One's past has a way of returning in the most inconvenient and cuel of ways..." He wasn't quite sure why he was warning her, or of what. Leroux's cannon clearly let the ghost die and gave only room for some of the...melodrama that shabilly held together most of the sequel work that came after. Thomas smiled again and changed the subject quickly so as not to drop off into an unsettling silence.
"So, what do you think I should read next? Robinson Crusoe perhaps? Or maybe the works of Sherlock Holmes?" He walked over tot the sheleves, brushing his hand against the book spines...
((OOC: if the works referenced are out of the tmeframe of your character, don't worry, just keep it with the whole screwed-up time thing))

((Sweet lol. Will do. Holms would have been fairly new, so living in France she may or may not have heard of it. She doesn't speak much English (I may or may not be somewhat ignoring a language barrior) so she wouldn't have read it in its English. I'm not sure if there would have been a French translation so soon.))
Christine wrung her hands anxiously, thinking of that enormous if standing in her and Raoul's way. They were planning on fleeing Paris, yes, but this had not been at all what they had in mind. I certainly wish you two the best then. But be careful maidemoiselle. One's past has a way of returning in the most inconvenient and cuel of ways... How true. How true... The past had seemed to catch up all too soon, perhaps so as there would be no future...
Christine began to pace about, not noticing it herself, continuing to wring her hands over and over. Granted, it had only been a couple of days since she had arrived here, and yet the question still remained of whether Raoul would remain true to her and stay, searching for her, until such time that the elopement could take place, or if, findind her gone, he would go on his expodition to the North Pole. As much as she wanted them to be able to be married and to spend their lives together, it would honestly be safer for him to leave with the expodition at this point...
She distanly heard Monsieur Boehm ask her a question. So, what do you think I should read next? Robinson Crusoe perhaps? Or maybe the works of Sherlock Holmes? She paused from her pacing a moment and tilted her head, looking at him. "Sherlock Holms, Monsieur?"

Of course, Thomas thought to himself, Doyle would've been newly published in her time, probably not even translated into French yet."An Englishman by the name of Arthur Conan Doyle. His works are some of the best mystery stories ever written, and is detective, Sherlock Holmes is a brilliant character. You really ought to read his work mademoiselle." Thomas headed back to the bookshelves and poured over all the various Holmes volumes until he settled on a yellowed first edition copy of Hound of the Baskervilles. Beside it was a French edition of the collected short stories. He pulled that out as well and handed it to Christine. "Pardon my assumption," he said politely, "But I thought you might prefer this French edition rather than any of the English ones. you really ought give these stories a try. They really are great fun." ((OC: I'm sorry this took so long. I've just been kinda blah on the muse for roleplaying the past few weeks XD I promise I'll be better now ))

((Oh, that's perfectly fine. I'm sorry I missed you when you were on Just glad to see you back now. Sorry it's taken so long too. In the past couple weeks I've had a 4 year old brake the connecting cable for my screen, gone out of town to Las Vegas to see the Phantom Las Vegas Spectacular, and had an audition which was moved up three weeks from its original date.)) Christine listened with curiosity as Monsieur Boehm spoke about the author called Arthur Conan Doyle. “ If you insist that I should, Monsieur, though I'm afraid I don't know much–” She stopped short when he began to walk back to the shelves and followed in silence. He handed her a book from the shelf and then continued to speak. “ Oh, no, It is fine. Honestly, the French would be better for me. My English is not very good... This 'Sherlock Holms' – you say he is a detective of sorts?”

"THE detective, Mademoiselle." Thomas smiled and held up his copy of Hound fo the Baskervilles.
"With a few exceptions, Holmes is one of the most intelligent characters to be crafted, in my opinion. Hound of the Baskervilles is a great example. Susoenseful, frigtening, very exhilerating. It's one of my favourite novels. I can't count the times I've read it, and I'm still not tired of reading it."
He sat back in his chair and absent mindedly thumbed through the pages of the book. "Do you have a favourite book? A story or poem perhaps?" He asked, cuious about the kind of things that would interest a young Swedish girl living in an opera house.

((OoC: You should go look in the plot section at the Wedding Plot thread. I have Thomas on the possible invite list at the moment because I wasn't sure whether or not you would be interested in having him attend Leroux Raoul and Christine's wedding lol))
Christine looked down at the cover of the book that Monsieur Boehm had handed to her as he spoke about this character called 'Sherlock Holms.' He spoke very highly of the work, and from the way that he described it, it did sound very interesting... she would have to read it in her spare time, once she was able to find a way to contact her fiancé.
And then he asked her a question, upon which, she looked back up at him. “I do, actually.... A story that I heard often as a little girl, but.... well, I'm not sure if you would be interested honestly. It was a story about a little girl, and her doll, and her frock, and her fiddle... and about an angel she used to hear when she went to sleep...”

"That sounds lovely." Thomas replied honestly. Childhood stories, in his experience, where often the most fantastic and memorable.
"My parents are a logical pair. They told me stories too, good stories, but for a boy who was always creating new worlds in his head, they never went quite far enough to fully excite me." He shook his head fondly remembering trying to get his mother to have her poor farmer start off on an adventure not on horseback, or on foot along a dirty country road, but on a great fire breathing dragon. She's always reply with "But the knights slew all the dragons in Germany centuries ago, Thomas." After that, he'd begun telling himself bedtime stories, using his toys as props; castles made of building blocks, plush dragons breathing paper fire balls and toy soldier knights trying to rescue his sister's Barbies.
Thomas thought for a moment and replied, "If I had to name a favourite story that I grew up with, it would be the book of fairytales my uncle gave me. Not a normal gift for a boy, but he knew I loved stories and fantasies and gave me a whole book of them." He smiled thoghtfully and leaned back in his chair...

Christine couldn't help but to smile as she listened to Monsieur Boehm. His anecdote about asking to have adventures on a dragon. “Oh, it doesn't seem like a strange gift at all for a boy, Monsieur. My fiancé and I used to love hearing stories when we were little. We would go around from door to door, like beggars, but instead of asking people for money or for food, we would ask them if they had a story to tell us.”
She chuckled a little at the memory. It was a favorite game of she and Raoul when they were younger. Raoul... She stopped laughing, her smile fading a little. She could not help but to worry for him. After all, his life could be in jeopardy if he was still back in Paris...

Thomas saw that Christine was uneasy about soothing, and smiled at her reassuringly.
"Are you alright, mademoiselle? perhaps I can give you a hand, if you need anything?" he reached over and took her hand to comfort her. "Are you missing someone? I can help you around the manor to find them...if they're here." Thomas did not mention the possibility that whoever or whatever she was worried about may not have been pulled through. He smiled and waited for Christine to respond...
((OC: i'm sorry, i've been really busy XD))

((Oh, it's fine I'm sorry it took so long for me to reply back My computer went Oh No! Breaked! And I've been busy with the run of the show, so I know how you feel XD)) Christine hesitated, looking at the man, and then shook her head, averting her eyes from him. “ I.... I'm not sure to be honest,” she said when he asked her if she was all right. “ I'm just... worried, I suppose.” She bit her lip. This man seemed to have good intentions, and seemed to want to help... And even if he were working for Erik, there was no harm in saying. After all, it couldn't possibly put Raoul in any more danger, seeing as he was still in Paris... “ I'm not certain you can help, to be quite honest... A very dear friend of mine could very well be in grave danger, and I'm afraid for his life... You see, we were planning on fleeing Paris together, but now... now it seems our plans aren't exactly working out as we'd hoped,” she said with a worried chuckle. “ The only problem is that our plans would have meant him deserting the navy, and if anyone there were to find out...” The girl trailed off, her eyes growing distant and beginning to well with tears. It was terrible, always being so frightened by uncertainty of whether or not one's beloved was still living or not, or how long they would continue to be. She let out a soft sigh, allowing his name to escape her lips. “ Raoul...”

Thomas stood up and smiled confidently, "Mademoiselle," he said, "If he is here, I can and will find him for you. I have lived her for almost a year, I now every nook and cranny in the manor."
He took her hand and led her up from the chair. "I can't stand to see you unhappy. And your gentleman sounds well worth the effort, if he is willing to give up his career for you.Shall we look around to see if your young man is here?"

The man seemed confident that they would be able to find Raoul there in that wretched place. Christine, on the other hand, was not so convinced. She was afraid. She was afraid to get her hopes up that there might be a chance that he was there and that she could rush into his embrace, when he was no where to be found, which was the much more likely situation.
Her lips smiled ever so slightly when he said that he couldn't stand to see her unhappy, but the smile did not spread to her eyes. No. Her eyes remained laden with fear. “Thank you, Monsieur. I... I suppose it couldn't hurt to look...” And then, something that he had said struck her. “You live here?” she asked, looking up at him in somewhat of disbelief. For 'almost a year' at that...
