Nathanael gave an amused chuckle and shrugged at the man’s rhetorical question. “Yes, I suppose that is a rather odd yet ironic situation, eh? Spirits with spirits…” He chuckled again, shaking his head. It was good to find someone else here who could appreciate a good drink and had a half decent sense of humor.
“My friend, there are strange… people here, if you can call a spectre a person. But then again, I’m no less a person than you, am I not? Perhaps even more… Oh anyway, it’s no matter, I suppose. There’s a strange spectre here – a king – who seems to have taken a bit too much of a liking to the firmer owner of this house’s collections… but that is a story for another day.”

Edouard took another drink of his brandy. "The Kook King is King Will? Is that who you mean? I met him a while back. He told me he was a ghost, but I didn't believe him. I still wonder if he was a figment of my imagination." He paused. "I see things sometimes when I drink. Why you might very well just be a phantom who lives in my own mind." Then he laughed . "That is a rather poor way to put it. I know a few of the Phantoms who live here and I don't want them anywhere near my mind."
"So King Will had a lot to do with bringing us here...and why? Because he was interested in the former owner's collections? Tell me, my friend, what did he collect? Rare specimens from Africa and the West Indies? Jewels and precious stones? Rare Chinese urns?" He paused trying to think of what else would be an interesting collection. "Postage stamps? Rare books? Come now, don't keep me in suspense. What did the fellow collect? I haven't found anything collectible in this house yet. He must have hidden it well..."

Nate let out a hearty laugh and slapped his hand across his knee. Even though as a ghost he was incapable of actually becoming intoxicated from drinking, that didn’t mean that he didn’t enjoy acting like it sometimes. Drunkenness, he found, was often a good excuse for enjoying oneself, particularly if enjoying a bit too much…
“No…. No,” he said, almost breathlessly through his laughter. “Not the sort of collection you or I would particularly expect… You see—” And with this, the spectre suddenly winced as if in pain. His energy was beginning to fade. On a calm night such as this, it was difficult for him to draw energy enough to manifest himself, much less to continue drinking for so long. His grip tightened around the glass he was holding. This wasn’t about to end pretty…
From his right temple, a very thin trickle began, deep red in color. It was barely visible—only a few drops—but it was just the beginning of the visible aspect of his pain.

It seemed to Edouard that Nate was having the time of his life. He was laughing with Edouard as he was drinking. He slapped his thigh and was about to tell Edouard what the collections of the former owner consisted of when he winced in pain. Edouard blinked, not completely aware of what was going on.
"Well, go on...tell me what they are. I really can't imagine..." Edouard went on for a bit, then stopped abruptly when he saw not only pain on Nate's face, but a small trickle of blood from his temple.
Edouard blinked when he saw the blood, not sure if he was really seeing it or if it was a figment of his imagination. He stepped off his stool to take a closer look and his heel caught in the bottom of the stool, making his step a bit awkward. He held on to the bar to keep from falling. Then he took a closer look at Nate. He got rather close and pointed at his temple. "I think you're bleeding or is that makeup?" He started to laugh, but then stopped when he saw the look of pain still on Nate's face. "Are you all right? Is that blood?"

Nate tapped his middle and forefinger to his forehead with his right hand while holding the bar glass in his left and wincing in pain as the deep red trickled down his temple. His body ached all over, and there was a sharp stinging from the place where he had been mortally wounded, and a high-pitched maddening ringing in his ears.
Deep blue vapors seemed to exude from every pore of his body, like a strange gaseous sweat. He staggered where he stood, his head reeling and his body shaking all over, as if he were battling the elements despite the otherwise calm atmosphere of the room. With the bluish vapors came a strong, fishy yet salty scent, like sea water.
Nathanael let out a splitting scream in pain as suddenly, there was nothing but what seemed like a small implosion of the bluish foggy smoke that formed a little dark orb that quickly retreated into the recesses of the walls. The bar glass fell, shattering on the floor, as there was no longer someone there to hold it and prevent it from doing so. Among the shattered pieces of glass on the floor were a few drops of blood… and a bloody bullet, one of the old round lead ones that are never used in guns today. Other than the few drops of blood and the strange salty odor, there wasn’t a trace left of the salty spectre.

Edouard had come quite close to Nate when he saw the blood trickling from his temple. Then he saw a vapour like substance coming from his whole person. There was a strange odour, as if a fishy breeze had blown in from the sea, which of course was no where near.
Edouard drew back as the vapour emerged. His eyes became wide and he backed up a bit more. Then Nathaniel screamed, a bloody, hollow scream that seemed to emanate from all parts of the spectre, or at least it seemed to Edouard. Suddenly what had taken the form of a man became only a spectral orb and it disappeared through the walls, leaving only broken glass on the floor, tinged with blood and strangely enough, a bloody bullet.
Edouard, not a coward by any means, still was quite unnerved and frightened by this apparition's sudden frightful disappearance. He stumbled backwards, over the bar stool he had been occupying and fell to the floor in his haste to leave the saloon. He picked himself up and stumbled away from the room in haste. he had been warned that there were spectres in this mansion....
