Carlotta could not believe the gall of this wretched man! Was he honestly claiming that he was responsible for the success of the Opéra Populaire? From what she knew and from what she’d been told, it was a miracle the place hadn’t closed down because of him! After all of the difficulties he’s caused the company, he honestly believed he was helping? And not only that, but the reason for its success? The plump diva scoffed and flicked her head a bit.
“Your opera house? You were the cause of every difficulty and obstacle among the company from what I have witnessed and been told!” Her face turned as red as her hair. Oh, how she would have thoroughly enjoyed watching that man hang for his utter despicableness! “La mia carrier non è finite! Lafottafantasmastupidaconnonapprezzamentoperlamusica!” She spat her words at him in a rapid and highly dictated Italian with such force that it would even have made even a native speaker have to hear it a few times over to fully understand what she’d said.
Shaking all over with rage, the prima donna made a sharp turn on her heel before stiffly walking to the exit, muttering and grumbling in her own tongue. That was it. She’d had it. The moment she came across the Vicomte again, she needed to have a word with him. This horrendous man needed to be stopped. Carlotta was quite set with the idea of making him pay for what he’d done to disturb her reputable career.

"Of course it was my opera house. It was so badly run, I had to intervene. You think that I caused trouble? No I merely put things straight." He leaned over a bit toward her and spoke in a soft whisper as if it were a secret. "There are people who will not learn unless they are frightened into it.. " He leaned back again. She was in an utter rage. She started spewing Italian words with such venom that it was all but impossible to understand what she was saying. Erik merely watched her, shaking his head slightly in disbelief. Carlotta actually thought she had been the star attraction of the Opéra Populaire! The woman had such arrogance!
Erik laughed out loud when the prima donna started to shake in rage. She turned and walked toward the exit door, still fuming. After she left, Erik sat for a few minutes thinking. Even though he felt she was a terrible actress and a singer with the most atrocious voice he had ever heard, still she could cause him some trouble. She was nasty enough to try to wreak revenge on him and she might be able to disrupt his productions in the opera house when that day came. And it would definitely come. His plans would go forth for the refurbishment and the productions. But what might she do to sabotage it? He was quite sure she would try. She would definitely bear watching.
Erik walked over to the ladder still against the wall. He pulled it away and carried it backstage. There wasn't much more he could do here today in any case. The encounter with that annoying woman had upset him. He would have to take a long walk alone and plan out his strategy to keep her from ruining his plans. He left the opera house, still wrapped his quite disturbing thoughts.

Who did this man think that he was? He clearly wasn’t helping. There had been several instances where the performance that evening nearly didn’t happen due to the incompetent beast of a man. She’d tolerated his mischief-making for three long years, and she was not about to continue.
Something had to be done about this. If Monsieur le Vicomte were so bent on putting the foul toad behind bars, then it would have done her wise to work with him in doing so. After all, she had been the subject of more than one of his pranks and works of blackmail. If it were witnesses he needed, there was one begging to testify. She did not wish to keep putting up with this.
The man was dangerous not only to people, but to business as well. It was in the best interest of the entire opera company that he be persecuted for his continuous harassment and terrorizing of them. One way or another, his reign of self-illusion would end!
