Erik enjoyed the dance with Ana. Especially the waltz. He hated to admit to anyone that Madame Giry had been the one to actually teach him to dance. He was a natural at it, and naturally graceful, but he had to learn how to dance with a woman and take the lead. Since then, there were few dances that Erik had, most were lately and at the mansion. That was one of the things Erik enjoyed the most - moving quickly around a room with a partner as quick and graceful as he was. And the waltz was one of his favourites. "I shall take you up on that, my dear," he said in response to her saying that she would be happy to dance with him any time. Indeed, she was a grand partner!
And too, h e was glad that she was not afraid of his embraces and kisses. He had not had much touching all his life, and now that he'd discovered it, it began to come naturally for him, but he didn't always use it appropriately. Lately, he had tried to remember to ask first.
Then they parted. Ana went up the long marble staircase to her suite, while Erik went down in the lift to his warm cosy home. He loved his lair, as others called it. But to Erik, it was simply home. He felt warm and comforted there. The water proved a natural barrier unless one was wont to swim the lake. Even so, every sound was magnified so that Erik would know immediately if someone were coming. And the cave-like appearance of the lair proved perfect for amplifying his music and voice so that he could be surrounded by it. It truly was a place where music reigned supreme.
As he descended to his home down below in the lift, crossing the bridges and the lake , he couldn't help but smile at the thought of Ana giving him all these gifts. He didn't really crave things, he craved acceptance, friendship and love. But it was a measure of her acceptance of him that she had given him these things. And for that reason, he would cherish them. He arrived at his home with fond thoughts of their evening together...
