Her hazelish eyes danced about seeking the answers and hope in his own while still holding his face. The thought of him dead was something she could not- no, she would not let it happen!
Blinking a few times as her lips parted slightly a bit baffled then stunned. A slow deep silent inhale before a slow unnoticed exhale while holding his face still. Now she grew a little older and wiser, "We've discussed this before," trying not to look disappointed but she was rather sadly resigned with the choices made. "I made my choice to stay with you. But you released us. Yes, I loved Raoul and I feared for his life! I would have done anything to save his life." then slightly shook her head as her hands loosened from his face and slid down his neck, "I cannot love either of you more or less than the other." Looking back up at him, into his eyes. "I did come back. I did find you. But, granted that was Mr Y." Shaking her head and closed her eyes at the fact of the strange differences. Pinching her face for the mass confusion of such a strange realism. Sounding as though she made no sense.
"That was then. Another time. There are differences between our lives," she couldn't seem to put into words what he had explained to her and she shook her head, hanging her head. The Manor was so confusing as was their differences.
Barely a glance up into his eyes before dropping them once again, her body seemed to electrify at the thought of his inquiry would she leave Raoul Edouard for Lenoir? This caused her to twist inwardly. Yes, she thought, wanting to say this but the words never escaped from her slightly open lips. It was such a difficult decision for she did not want to break hearts, she wanted to pacify and make it all right and perfect. Her lips were trying to allow the words to let him know but they held back her thoughts nevertheless.
Now it was far more difficult to talk. Raoul Edouard was her Husband. Mr Y was the true father of Gustave. What of her future? What- oh, so many confusing questions that bombarded her and she couldn't handle them. Flinging herself from Lenoir as she paced around from the settee to finally move towards the fireplace to gaze upon the fire. Yes, passion was so much like a fire. It would consume- Just as he had written in his work of Don Juan Triumphant. She closed her eyes at this memory. How true he had been with that work.
"I don't know what to do," she said with such an emotional strain. This tore at her too much. She couldn't let either one go but to have them both was forbidden. Closing her eyes and shook her head. Both? No, not both. the trio of men! Lenoir, Raoul Edouard and Mr Y - now that he was in the picture! She was so confused and torn. But her feelings seemed to be different for each man. However, the intensity of her emotions were still with Lenoir. They were so fresh as she had taken more of a fancy of him since she had gotten to know him more while here at the Manor. Oh, what should she do?!?

"So it is I who have made the mistake," said Erik. "I see. I let you leave, thinking I had done a good deed. Believe me, back then, I did not do many good deeds. I thought you wished to go with de Chagny. So I was mistaken? I should have kept you with me? Would you have been happy then? Or perhaps you would have been mooning over de Chagny forever after. What kind of choice did I have?"
"So you do not wish a divorce from de Chagny. Why not? None of us can get the hell away from here in any case, so a scandal would be of no consequence. Or another but riskier choice is to go on the way we have been going. I shall see you behind his back. What would you choose? Or you can choose to never see me again. That probably won't work, because I shall be skulking about the mansion in any case, but that way you can ignore me without being rude. But then you will be obeying your husband's edicts and I am certain that would make you very happy." Erik was being very sarcastic and rude in his tone.
Erik was unhappy and his emotions were coming up one after another in confusion. "Yet you say that you would not wish me to do myself in. Why? Wouldn't it be a lot easier for you if I were not here?"
He stood up and stood beside her at the fireplace, and rubbed his hands in the warmth emanating from the fire. Well, I had best be going. I hadn't finished my walk when you found me outside." Erik put his cape back on and his hat, wishing again that he had brought his leather gloves. But he hadn't and it was too far to go back to get them.
"At this point, I can't tell if I s hould kiss you goodbye or not. So I shall." Erik pulled her to him once again and kissed her on the lips. Then he turned and walked toward the door.

"Erik!" her voice like a defeated beg having listened to all he said and it badgered her heart and soul. What was done was done. It was the past. Nothing could change it. They all made their choices. But they could change the present and future!
Not a word ever could come from her trembling lips that were often if not always agape! Her eyes kept pleading with Lenoir to reconsider all he had said or at least... she didn't know what else. They were potent words. But the moment he mentioned kiss and drew her in, she fell into his arms and kiss with all the want in the world! She needed him more than anything!
When their kiss parted and he turned to walk away towards the door, the fire that roiled within her like a raging firestorm-inferno consumed her. She rushed forward and grabbed Lenoir's arm to stop suddenly to jerk him in hopes to stop him. "Damn you, Lenoir! I need you!" she bit out through her teeth. This was bolder than she'd ever been in her life! She couldn't decipher her feelings nor all that had happened since coming here. If it was Mr Y she saw first after all this time and spent more time with him, who knows, she could have fallen back in with him. Or maybe not. But the more she got to know Lenoir, enjoyed his favor and fancy, all the past had melted away. The Manor was the present and she was finding it far more difficult to keep her love for Edouard. her past love for Mr Y was difficult to find. And yet, while here at the Manor, her passion for Lenoir changed and grew! Why? She did not understand it.
Grabbing hold of his arms, clinging desperately to him. "Don't leave me," she begged him with an intense eyes and a breathy begging. Now she was panting as her gaze was locked upon his and trembling. She actually had contemplated and started to pray to God for a miracle that if she and Raoul were to stay together, bring them closer. If not, then find a way to part ways in good spirits so that she may be with the one she has always loved! "If it is God's will and allowance," her voice soft and trembling, "Beg to him. Beg and pray that we part ways and end our marriage." Pausing a moment as she could not remove her eyes from him. "Beg and pray that I can be yours." Once again or not, she had let go of the past. The present was something new, and Lenoir was part of that present. She wanted the present. With that, she closed the distance quickly and passionately kissed him, clinging to him.

Intending to leave the room and Christine to return to the cold outside, Erik was considerably surprised when Emilie caught his arm and poured out her heart. She said she needed him. It was almost too much for Erik to believe. She wanted him to stay...and it sounded as if she were willing to divorce de Chagny if it were God's will. Erik stood still, her hand still on his arm. "Do you mean that?" he said softly.
"Perhaps it was a marriage that was never meant to be. I may have expedited it..." He looked pensive for a moment then spoke. "How would one go about a divorce here in the mansion? You could go to the village, they wouldn't have your marriage certificate though, perhaps they could send for it..." Erik was speculating out loud.
Emilie then embraced him and they kissed passionately again. Then Erik closed his eyes and held her close. "But what I don't understand is how you can love both of us the same? I know de Chagny has been a husband and been with you, but has he been a good husband? I must ask you again, as I did once before...make your choice." He paused. "It's perhaps fortunate that Teressa does not love me any more. It could not come at a better time." Now the fact of his unrequited love for Teressa was a good thing. He could concentrate on Emilie.
"We did lock the door when we came in here, didn't we?" asked Erik.

Clinging to Lenoir in that Lover's embrace, she couldn't believe she was once again doing this. But this time it felt a bit more different. So much had simmered to a boilhead over the past few months as she came to more of a realization that she was changing as much as everything else that was around her.
Shaking her head as her fingers clawed gently upon his arms in a desperate need to hold him close. Shaking her head. "The past... was another time." Resting her head upon him, gazing off towards the fire. "That other time I left you. I loved Raoul. Then turned and found... you-," though knowing it was Mr Y now, "I only returned to Raoul because... I no longer had a choice!" Which was true. Before she married Raoul, there was that choice. The first choice was to save Raoul, the second choice she would have stayed with Erik but he loved her and left her forcing Christine back to Raoul and their marriage. Lifting her head and looking level to his neck as she shook her head again while her fingers moved to caress out his shirt collar and neck, closed her eyes a moment then looked up at him. "Much has changed since then. I cannot deny my deepening affections for you." Her eyes dropped again as her hands rested upon his lapels. "Ever since that day we first met once again in the gardens," she wanted to speak more but the words were becoming so difficult to convey.
Shaking her head and closing her eyes. The marriage certificate. She was unsure of truly calling this shot. To null her marriage to Raoul Edouard. Oh, what a horrible thought! But, they had already grown farther apart especially in the past few months. But she tried since Gustave's return. She knew not what to do! Nodding as she will look into obtaining the Marriage proof or find a way to null this.
A slow, heavy sigh, "It's changed, Erik." The opened her eyes, but found the conversation stilled with the mention of Teressa. This stirred in her a fury of emotions that she was unsure of what she was feeling. She had told Lenoir once before she had returned to him after they left the Lair. Perhaps this is their once last chance. Embracing him, to hold him close, resting her head upon his shoulder. There was so much she felt right now, though she knew what she felt, her words were utter confusion. Make your choice, those words once again rang in her ears from a distant past. She lifted her head to gaze deep into his eyes and her hands came up to his face and held it, "You are not alone." Was the words she repeated while gazing into his eyes. She twice before had been willing to stay, the first time because she simply wanted to save Raoul's life for whom she loved then. Then she returned later before she married Raoul in an effort to say good-bye but had on a whim wished to stay with him only to be left behind this time as he left her. Now it was different, the past choices made. The present choice had to be made to decide their futures. She wanted him even if it meant a secret affair!
Thinking a moment when he inquired about locking the door then shook her head, "No. It is still unlocked," wondering why he asked that.

"Christine, I truly did it for you...told you to leave with Raoul...I did it out of love for you. I knew you could never love me if I killed him, so though I loved you dearly, I thought you wanted to be with him. And I know it's in the past. But you must know my intentions for letting you go...for telling you to go. It was only out of love for you and the feeling that you would never be happy with me, that you would only be miserable and never really love me...." Erik was still holding her close. "But what of Mr Y? Perhaps he has a closer hold on you than I do, considering he fathered your child. What are your feelings for him? I should not want to go through all this and then have you leave me for him."
Erik laughed ironically. "It seems you and others often confuse the two of us. Are you sure it is not Y that you love?" He paused again. "And I must work out in my mind what my thoughts and feeliings are about my dear Teressa. I thought I loved her, but if she is so unforgiving, as to not let me explain one little mistake, how would we pass a lifetime together? My heart is truly breaking for her. What I said before about it being a good time...perhaps it is a fortunate time, but perhaps it will be a long process before I am able to keep her out of my mind. And there is the cruel fact that both your de Chagny and my Teressa will be here in the mansion, neither will likely ever be able to leave. How would either of us cope with this?"
Erik looked at Emilie pensively. "Perhaps we would do best to continue as we have, at least for a time, until we can work out the details, and break it to the others involved. I expect that I shall have no trouble with Teressa, as I fear she is sick to death of me already. But your de Chagny may go after me and I may have ot fight for you. Perhaps...perhaps it may be a fight to the death. I would hope I could work it out amicably, but I fear we shall wind up as the knights of old, fighting for the love of a lady..."
Erik glanced toward the door. "As for the locked or unlocked door, I should not wish to be found here with you at this moment, for it would cause not only scandal, but depending upon who it is that would enter, again, I may have to fight for you... Christine, do you wish me to fight for you?"

Oh, to hear him say he loved her was like a new spring in her soul. But was this from the past or present? Both from the sounds of it. Each bit of that was true. She would not have forgiven him if he killed Raoul. She did want to be with Raoul then. She did try to return to Erik. But again, that was all in the past. That was so long ago, another time, other people, other situations. Those were dead and gone. This was a fresh start with new emotions and love.
Mr Y. Oh, what of him? She had not seen him much. Not talked to him much. Not sure what she felt for him if it was there or not. But perhaps he had his chance and had dashed it away. Lenoir had captured her heart these past few months. What she craved, he gave her without asking. He somehow knew what she needed. Pinching her eyes closed at the words of Mr Y siring her son. That may be so- "That was another time, another place," she kept her eyes closed a moment before she looked up at Lenoir, opening her eyes.
Poor Lenoir. His words and thoughts so rampant and vivid, so concerned with all the avenues of what could stop them just as before. She made the mistake before, fate pulled them in opposite directions. And yet, here at the Manor, there was something new to try! A new fate to lead. Her hands once again took hold of his face and drew him into a purely loving and gently passionate kiss. "Let them know where my Love lies. Let the past be absolved. Let our love prove to be fresh and new." Gazing into his eyes as though to help him understand she was ready to end all that had once happened. She was ready to move on. To start a new life. She had burned her bridges. Time for new ones to be built.

That was another time, another place, Christine said. How true it was. And how strangely it had all come together. It was not even a year since Erik had kidnapped Christine to play the lead in his opera. And it had not been this Christine, although she was much like her, and yet unlike her. It had been Christine Svenna whom he had met again at the mansion. She had seemed so young, so fearful... Apparently, what he had done, namely the kidnapping and the chandelier falling, which she felt was meant to kill her, had made her forever lost to him.
Yet, this woman, Christine Emilie, had gone through exactly the same situation, albeit it was with the man who became Mr Y, and she had undoubtedly different feelings for him, although still feeliings of love, but different feelings of love, if that made any sense. And that had been ten years ago, so this Christine was more mature and had learned more of life. He liked her maturity. However, he didn't like her husband. And that was the crux of the problem.
It would seem that they could not marry unless de Chagny agreed to a divorce. Erik doubted he would ever agree to such a thing. Unless...unless Erik could think of a reason to make the Vicomte agree. Erik was not above blackmail, he had done it before, and he would never call it that. During his sojourn at the Opéra Populaire, his money-making scheme was obviously blackmail, but Erik thought about it as a salary for his excellent advice on how to run the opera house, as obviously the managers and others in charge were complete idiots and could never run the opera on their own.
Perhaps there was something he could find out about de Chagny and use against him. It was a thought that Erik found tremendously interesting, for he had not lost his bent for scheming. And if Teressa came back in the picture, he would find a way to have them both.
Erik smiled with those thoughts in his mind. He hugged her again. "Christine, we shall find a way. I don't know exactly what may transpire, but I have a few ideas." Erik's smile was positively wicked.

It was pure delight to be in Lenoir's arms, in that embrace. Closing her eyes and resting her head upon him and listened to all that he said. Not even thing any more of how she could ever accomplish keeping him near.
He started to worry her in a manner of speaking. Lifting her head to look up at him, "Do not do anything that either one of us would regret. Please, Erik." Pausing as her eyes were pleading with him while holding him to her. What an elated feeling to be in the arms of someone who loved her. Raoul once was like this with her. Once. Not any more it seemed. Did he not love her any more? She was so foolish to crave anyone who gave her a false sense of hope. But she was foolish to cling to Raoul and believe he was her future just as he was her past, how they were childhood sweethearts. He was so familiar. He was a past that would no longer be. Raoul had changed too much and she tried to change as well. She tried to return to Erik long ago and he had left her. Actually, it was Mr Y. She tried to make her choices but everyone made the choices for her and she felt helpless to do anything other than what fate was forcing her into. Smoothing out his lapel as she gazed upon it, "Let it be as it may be. Either way," looking up into his eyes, "My choice now is with you."
