The creature was busy painting herself. She had made a new batch of her special algae henna paint and was redoing the intricate designs over her arms and her body. A couple of the long, thin tendrils of her hair dipped into the substance, their tips swirling around in it a bit, before they set to work carefully and skillfully tracing new designs on her rubbery slick skin. It was a tedious task, but if you wanted it done right, there was no tolerance for taking shortcuts. It was a little hobby she enjoyed doing when she was bored. The scum that was constantly forming in the pool was absolutely perfect for it, conveniently enough. She had moved to the larger, cooler pool for the purpose of her artwork – the ink set better in cooler water. Her newest design incorporated many outlines of lilies and lotuses. She had always enjoyed the flowers back in her days when she lived in the Caspian and they were quite a treat to find. The beautiful flowers were quite delicate and were species indigenous to the shallow watery areas like the lagoons she would sometimes visit after nightfall, where the fresh water mixed with the salt. Oh, how she missed the salty waters of the Caspian and the warm Persian sun. granted, here there was at least sunlight and the waters in part of the pool was warmer, like where she was from, but it just wasn't the same. Though closer to home than the underground lake, it was still quite different. |

Exhausted beyond measure and it showed not only upon her face, but even with her body and movements. Her hair matted and stringy, dirty and very poorly kept had fallen out of it's fashionable do long ago it seemed. Days at least. Her poor fine white lace dress was no quite white any more but an off-white, dirty mess of fabric that was torn in a couple places, mostly at the hem of the skirting, even around her wrists and the neck. Plus a gap at the shoulder, just above her chest opposite of the seam along her side that was slightly coming apart. Those eyes glassy and red having practically lost it's spirit, drive or even... hope.
She'd escaped from that bedeviling, freakish man with the long, stringy fair hair. His wild eyes scared him more than anything. Of all the faces of the Phantoms she'd seen, nothing frightened her more than the normal face and vicious animalistic spirit of the one known as Alexander. He frightened her and never had she felt so violated!
Once she escaped from him, lost in the tunnels and frightened, it was Charles who had found her. The ghost Master of the Manor who stuffed her away supposedly to recover. But by then, she was so hungry and desperate for water she needed to leave. But how? She was tired and felt so depressed that she believed this was her punishment for her sins. She put this upon herself to have dared to Love a man who never knew compassion. To have bore a son from that unholy union. And to continue to fancy him while here at the Manor while enduring the wrath of her Husband. Then, she was not unfaithful. Though she was Raoul's Fianceé. Perhaps she was unfaithful but she did not think to believe that would have happened actually. It just... happened. Either way, she realized that it also didn't just happen. It had always been there as a desire. And now... she still clung to him. For what thought? Why?
Her thoughts were trailing away with her as she stumbled along finally coming to a door that led to a place she'd not been to before as she came out from the tunnels. A Pool House. It seemed inviting enough. Perhaps in the water it could wash away all the ugliness that she has had to endure. To wipe her clean of all their soiled her.
Striding towards the water as it barely rippled under the light. It seemed so inviting, so hypnotizing. Slowly... step by step... she approached the water's edge. Her sunken face and saddened glassy eyes locked upon the water as tears welled in them once again. May it take the hurt away from her. She felt the pains well deep in her core. The fact her Husband was so angry with her. Their battles never ended. It tore at her that he would always be so vicious towards Erik. And poor Erik, how could she explain that. Or even her past with him.
Gustave. This damaged her most of all. Her lost son was killing her slowly. Slowly the tears flowed. What point was there to live if she could not see her son? Was he dead? Oh, God! What a horrible thought! She could live without her beloveds, but she could NOT live without her son!
She stood there, gazing at the waters. Just... to wash it all away, she thought. Just to wash away. Wash... away.

The creature was admiring her own handiwork with the painting when she heard footsteps approach her new lake. She had to admit that the hard textured banks along the shore made her work quite easier, for footfalls were much easier to hear on a hard surface than they were on dampened clay-like ground.
She wondered what pathetic soul dared to trespass through her territory this time. It certainly wasn't another one of those dreadful ghosts, for otherwise she would not have heard any footsteps with the intruder's entrance. She slithered through the now slightly slimy waters like an eel toward where she had heard the sound.
Remaining close to the bottom so as not to be seen, she gazed up at the figure of a woman standing on the edge and looking down over the waters. The creatures fierce, icy pale eyes were the only light that could be seen at the bottom of the pool through those filthy depths.
It had been quite some time since the creature had seen another woman... other than that frail-looking thing her master had developed a fondness for, that is. She didn't like her. She occupied far too much of the master's attention and turned his thoughts away, almost as is she, his faithful servant and guardian to his domain, did not exist...
Perhaps it was a killer's instinct, or perhaps it was pure jealousy from the way this woman had caused her to remember, but the Siren felt some sort of burning heat well within her very being as she continued to watch the woman on the edge of the pool, and her unearthly eyes narrowed. Slowly, she rose toward the surface, towrd this new found intruder.

At this point, she almost didn't care if the waters were in a less than desirable state. In most cases, she would feel that it would need to be remedied, to make it better for all to enjoy. But this time, having been absent, not knowing how much time had passed, and feeling rather broken, she just... didn't... care.
Staring at the rippling murky waters and slowly sank to sit at the edge of the pool with her legs off to the side. Planting a palm upon the cold tile floor surrounding the pool while the other hand rested in her lap. Somewhat leaning over to gaze further into the pool. That formerly white dress and her disheveled hair made her look like some homeless street rat. She felt so tired. So tired... and so in need of refreshing herself. Her thoughts dwindled to mere whimpers in her mind as the faces dimmed with the names. Her emotions just... blank. But she was so tired. So tired.

A light smirk crossed the creature's colorless lips as the woman leaned over, gazing into the pool. Oh yes, come closer she thought. It wasn't often she'd ever had lady visitors intrude upon her master's shores. This was a rare occasion indeed.
She herself moved closer to the surface, close enough so that her piercing blue eyes could just be seen from the surface. Softly, in a haunting tone, the creature began to cast her spell.

Gazing into the rippling pool of murky waters. It seemed to hypnotize her and almost didn't notice the eyes gazing back at her. With a soft start she jerked back, a sharp inhale and widening eyes for such a split second and yet was unable to remove her gaze from those eyes. It was almost like gazing upon His eyes.
When the haunting song began it seemed to appeal and sooth her in such a way that it disarmed her. Mesmerized as though mesmerized by Him long ago. It was such a perfect and dangerous voice. How could she resist it? How could she resist those eyes that called to her just as much as the voice did. Losing all sense of time and space, who she was and what happened, everything except the focus upon that voice and those eyes.
Drawn closer and closer to it, not realizing that she was leaning closer and closer to the waters. Almost wanting to sleep, wanting to join that voice and those eyes in the depths of dark waters. A hand reached out absent-mindedly to those eyes as if in childlike wonder to touch or capture them.
Leaning closer.... and closer. Her hand just above the water's surface.

Raoul hated selling insurance. He much preferred his teaching job to the menial task of calling person after person asking if they wanted to purchase life insurance for after they died, and a lot of the time he got a flat out no, but other times his charisma gave him some pretty impressive commissions. Still, it all depended on luck and his ability to keep people on the telephone. He couldn’t wait until he was finished with his law degree program. He still had at least a year left of study, and once he could work as a barrister he would hopefully have enough so that he could buy a home far away from this horrid place for Christine and himself. And it would be work befitting his title, as Edouard had said.
He was dressed in his gray windowpane suit with a light blue shirt and red tie. Over his sandy hair he wore a fedora. His jacket was open and slung across his body was his briefcase. He was rather tired and didn’t notice that he had wandered into another room besides the kitchen until he saw the pool beside him. What in the world? He turned around, finding himself in an unfamiliar area of the manor. He decided at once to go back outside and retrace his steps, but stopped walking when he saw something curious out of the corner of his eye.
The elder version of Christine was kneeling down at the side of the pool, reaching in. She looked almost…dazed and as if she were disconnected from reality. He had seen that look before on the face of the woman he intended to marry, and it worried him. He briskly made his way around the edge of the pool, concern written across his face. “Christine?”

That's it. Closer...
The Siren's icy cold eyes pierced through the water like two pale blue glowing orbs in the darkness of those murky waters. A smirk crossed her colorless lips as she continued on.. A hair-like feeler reached out of the water, followed by another... and another...

Those eyes. Those hypnotic icy eyes frightened her but a moment but kept drawing her in towards her doom. She fell for it. Continuing to reach for those dangerous orbs that seemed to hover just below the water's surface.
Though still in this strange sort of trance she did not notice the strange black tendrils that crept towards her from the gross waters.

The woman didn’t seem to hear him, and almost looked hypnotized by something she was staring at in the pool…but there was nothing there. His blue eyes widened in concern and he again feared that she had some sort of a psychological problem, as he had originally thought. “Christine!” he repeated a bit more firmly, but she didn’t even notice he was there. And she was leaning down further into the pool…
Even when they were younger he had always been the stronger swimmer of the two of them, so naturally he was worried for her safety. He unslung his briefcase and dropped it on the floor, and wiggled out of his jacket before taking off his hat and tie. He kept walking toward the pool, at a steady pace short of running so not to trip. "Christine!"

Another one? The creature had not expected any more of those wretched mortals to trespass along her shores which she guarded for her Master. Oh well. This other would have his turn soon enough.
Unfazed, she continued her eerie melody, maintaining eye contact with her feelers hovering near to her prey, yet dare not touching yet.
“Tiro! Él eria e môr.
I 'lîr en êl luitha 'úren.
Ai! Aníron...”
In an instant, in one foully swift yet beautifully precise movement, the tendrils of the creatures 'hair' suddenly wrapped around the nearest limb they found of the mortal and yanked hard, pulling her to the wanter. The water...

Within that trance she couldn't quite hear the concerned calls of Raoul Christophe but slowly that voice seemed to ebb into her over the hypnotic song that was putting her into a vulnerable lull. Such a wonderful voice. What a glorious song.
It was not the tendrils that snapped her awake but the sudden shock of the water and lack of air that brought her to a realization she was at the mercy of Death! Her eyes grew wide upon the blurred image of the Siren. Unable to scream in the water she began to fight and struggle only to feel the unrelenting grip tightened. The more she struggled the further it brought her to the verge of unconsciousness and towards the edge of drowning. Her lungs desperately needed the air and threatened to gasp for it when she could not under the water's surface.
It wasn't long until she felt weak and could no longer try and began to allow water to envelope her and fall victim to the Siren.

Raoul watched in shock as Christine tumbled into the pool and he gave up being careful and rand, jumping into the pool after her with a loud splash. What he noticed first was how murky the water was. It was difficult to see—but he could make out an arm, a leg and a body, which he surmised was Christine. She looked as if she were struggling against something. He swam nearer to her, making use of muscles long unused since his days in the Navy, until he could see her trying to escape from…a mermaid?
What the devil was in this water? Whatever it was, it was killing her. And he wasn’t going to sit there and watch her die. He cut through the water with his arms and legs and reached out for her arm desperately as soon as he was close enough. With his other hand he grabbed for her waist and tried to swim upward, ignoring whatever had her in its grasp.

The creature continued to pull, dragging her victim deeper and deeper. This new lake of the Master's certainly had far more unwelcome visitor to it than the last one had. She was already working on one and would soon have to go back up for the second, whom she had heard approaching. Oh well. No matter. But then...
Splash!
It would seem that the second one had come into the lake on his own. He was trying to rescue the first? The creature let out a menacing series of threatening clicks and jerked sharply, her tail splitting through the water at a lightning speed and narrowly missing the other.

Weakening by the second. No longer able to struggle against the creature that now had her in it's grip. One would say life would flash before your very eyes but with her, only the horrors of what had been never did project before her. She felt the need for air but only felt water for but a moment as it choked her lungs and throat.
Not feeling the power struggle for her, not really feeling a thing as she now began to feel float. Perhaps it was for the best that it happened this way. two weeks of hell and all she really wanted was to give in to the darkness. Now... she was finally doing that. No good-byes. No last wishes. Nothing but silence.
